Nice Travelogue

Picturesque Colorado (1911)

*** (out of 4)

This travelogue lasts just three-minutes but it's certainly very enjoyable. We first start off with a view of Denver from what appears to be the top of a building or some other object. We see the busy streets full of people walking as well as horse and carriages going down the street. From here we see Mt. Corona, Georgetown Loop, a bucket ride to the top of a mountain, Soda Springs, Glenwood Springs and then a trip to Canon City where we see some apple picking. Again, at three-minutes you're not going to get anything ground-breaking but for the most part this thing kept me entertained. This was nearly two decades before James A. FitzPatrick would do his TravelTalks series so it's interesting to see how the format is pretty much the same. I think those who live around Denver or know these locations will get a real kick out of seeing how they looked over a hundred years ago.

There isn't one inch of it that lacks great interest

This is a very welcome and interesting scenic film. It is rather long, but so much the better, for there isn't one inch of it that lacks great interest. The least interesting part of it shows a parade with decorated floats seen recently in Denver. Perhaps among the best things shown is an excursion train photographed passing through the Royal Gorge. Some excellent views of the Garden of the Gods are included, among a surprising number of other features that make Colorado one of the wonder places of the world. It is a very good film, one that any reviewer could take pleasure in commending highly. - The Moving Picture World, September 23, 1911
