I jumped in the cinema
kjetil197925 October 2008
I jumped in the cinema chair many times. This movie is as good as the first, and that don't happened too often with movies that follow ups. In this movie the horror takes place in a hospital that is shutting down. The "snowman" that we thought was killed in first movie wakes up at the hospital and horror once more brakes out. I think the actors does a very good job, and you get close to the characters just like in the first movie. In this movie we get too know a bit about the "snowman", and if it comes a third movie, maybe we get too learn even more. Who that will survive in this movie you just have too go and see for your self.

Good sequel!!
Butterfly_4712 March 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Fritt Vilt really impressed me so I decided to watch the second part as well. Sequels disappoint me all the time so I kept my expectations low.

I was surprised! Fritt Vilt 2 did NOT disappoint me at all. I think it's a very good sequel. I liked the first part better but this movie is also worth watching.

I loved how it picks up exactly where the last one left off. The atmosphere in the movie is very dark and tense, there is no dull moment. It's entertaining and gripping from beginning to end.

What I liked a lot in the movie is that the audience gets some information about the killer, we see interesting parts of his back story.

7/10. Great sequel!

Fritt vilt II: Big improvement on the original
Platypuschow8 October 2017
I was remarkably underwhelmed by Cold Prey, I'd been told it was a work of art but saw it as just another generic slasher flick.

For this reason I came into Cold Prey 2 thinking it would be more of the same but was pleasantly surprised.

Picking up from the closing moments of the first film we follow our "Final girl" Jannicke as she recovers in hospital but the nightmare is far from over.

With a new setting, great cast and competent delivery this is what I expected in the first place and was quite a joy to watch.

Don't get me wrong there is nothing revolutionary about Cold Prey 2 but it's some fine story telling and I'm now excited to see how the trilogy ends.

The Good:

Very well written

Solid cast Follows on perfectly from the first film

One great comedic moment

The Bad:

Ending is a tad rushed

Even Better Then the First One, and The First One was Really Good
tdwillis-2627320 May 2017
I watched the first Cold Prey movie back to back with this 2nd part Cold Prey. Although YOU don't have to. This second movie still makes very good sense without having to see the first movie, although I would recommend it as they are both good watches! I really love how the writer/director takes their the time for us to LIKE the characters. I CARED about them, and didn't want to see them hurt, unlike some of the horror movies where the characters are almost annoying and w kinda LIKE to see them killed off.It just makes for a more roller coaster of an emotional ride. Again, the subtitles were unusually easy to follow while watching the movie. The setting, this time around, is a hospital. Again reminiscent of the Halloween circa 1980's movies. And yet again, the acting is superb, the special effects (blood etc) were very well done without going overboard into shock territory. The pacing even better in this second movie. Very rare do we see the second installment even better then the first, but I agree with most other viewers who liked this one even better! Norway has really come thru for us fans who enjoy this type of horror. Excellently done and highly recommended!

An enjoyable sequel
labrador7222 February 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I didn't have high expectations for a sequel that brings back to life a killer that had been hit by pickax, took a fall of at least 30 feet onto frozen ice, and spent several hours lying at -20.

Despite of this I found Fritt Vilt 2 to be an enjoyable sequel even if somewhat a predictable one. The camera work and sound effects are very and I found the acting even better than in the first movie with Ingrid Bolsø Berdal once again giving an excellent performance as Jannicke, the only survivor of Fritt Vilt 1. I can't really express an opinion on the dialogs as I watched this film in Norwegian and only understood most of it because I speak some Swedish.

Spoilers begin _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Why did I not find it as good as the first movie then? First of all what made Fritt Vilt I really good was the setting: the characters were stuck in an abandoned hotel in the middle of nowhere surrounded by high snow which made any attempt to escape very difficult. In the sequel they are in a hospital and a few of the characters could have run out of it earlier than they actually did. Besides, the script has a few flaws that impact the realism of the storyline: 1) If you are a policeman when your foot gets caught in a trap and you are being dragged into a dark room, amazingly faster than the 2 other policemen only a few feet away can run, you'll surprisingly think of using your MP5 to try keep yourself out of the dark room instead of shooting! 2) If you are a policeman and are left in the car while 3 others enter a dark hospital with a homicidal maniac inside, you'll wait till everybody else is probably dead to load your gun and get out of the car! 3) When the homicidal maniac - who has killed all your friends, 1 doctor, 1 nurse, and 5 policemen - manages to disappear you decide to go after him but you obviously forget about the Glock you were holding in the hand and only bring the shotgun and a knife! 4)When you are waiting for the homicidal maniac after signing the guest book you obviously fall asleep! 5) If you are nurse when your favorite patient decides to hunt down the homicidal maniac who just killed your boyfriend, you first think about it for a couple of hours, then make up your mind and run home to grab your hunting rifle but make sure not to call anybody for help!

The final scene is neat though: how to put it? Revenge is a dish best served "in the cold"! _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Spoilers end

All in all, I can recommend watching this horror movie: for its genre is definitely well done!

Was better than the first part ...yet....?
SivakumarBalachandran24 October 2010
I watched this movie back to back with its first one.

I found this one was a better thriller than the first.

But this screenplay also follows the famous movies like "visiting hours" It was a solid start from part 1. Not like other movies here you meet the killer with a new team, this starts from what it ended in the first part.

The lead heroine was very convincing in her role since she comes out well in this part.

I should say the accompanying doctor girl had a charming cute comedy stuff face but she tried well.

On the whole it was convincingly presented except some loop holes like they fail to mention about the corpses they found later on in the crevasse.

I would rate it 7 on 10. cos this movie has got some thrills ...

Waiting to see what would they do in the third part.........

amazing idea but disappointed

Warning: Spoilers
It was the best sequel I have ever seen. The first moments were really impressive. As the film approached perfection, the film became cliché. The expected action scenes were boring. the killer fainted in front of the hospital, If he was killed I would give 9 points for the movie. But the film chose to stall a bit more and the killer was saved by a poor quality scene.

I'VE BEEN TO THE BATHROOM
nogodnomasters9 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Annicke (Ingrid Bolsø Berdal) survives Cold Prey to return to the sequel as does our killer (Robert Follin). Jannicke is located on a highway. The bodies of her friends are brought to the hospital which doubles as a morgue. Along with her friends, is the killer, a Jason kind of guy who just won't die.

If you like the Friday the 13th type of slasher and don't mind the subtitles, it is a fairly decent film. The Norwegians don't speak much or fast. I found the subtitles easy to follow. The obligatory nude shower scene just gave us a "side butt" view. The major scare factor was designed to make us jump by sudden screen movements. It works as a slasher that holds your attention.

Parental Guide: F-bomb, no sex or nudity per se.

Check Out
claudio_carvalho12 March 2010
Jannicke (Ingrid Bolse Berdal) is found wandering shocked in the snow in Stehotinn by Ole (Kim Wifladt) that brings her to the Otta Sjukehus Hospital where his girlfriend Dr. Camilla (Marthe Snorresdotter Rovik) works. Jannicke tells the location of the breach where the bodies of her friends Eirik, Mikail and Ingunn and the psychopath killer are to the skeptical police officers. When they investigate the location, they find the corpses and bring them to the morgue of the same hospital. Dr. Herman (Fridtjov Såheim) revives the psychopath while the Chief of Police Einar (Per Schaaning) investigates many missing persons in the spot. Sooner Herman and Einar disclose how dangerous the killer is while Jannicke and Camilla fight to survive.

"Fritt Vilt" is an engaging thriller that has a predictable story but entertains. This sequel uses many clichés and is inferior, and I dare to say that it is annoying in many moments. Camilla is probably the most unreasonable character, with attitudes that irritates, like for example, when she prefers to seek out Herman instead of leaving the building to bring help. In a certain moment, Jannicke has the killer fainted on the snow and is incapable of shooting his head. My vote is five.

Slightly better than the fist one.
deloudelouvain18 January 2020
One day after watching the first Cold Prey (that I rated with a five), I watched this sequel because some reviewers wrote it was a better one. I'm always up for a good slasher, it's just mindless fun, some jump scares and if you're lucky some tension and suspense. The sequel is a bit better than the first one, but it's basically the same story, just in another location. The acting was still okay, the quality of the images were better, but maybe I had a bad copy of the first movie. There is a third movie but since that one is apparently the worse one I won't be watching it. It's just going to be the movie too much for this story.

Blows The First One Away, Best Slasher I've Seen In Years
HorrorOverEverything17 July 2012
I've had the Cold Prey movies built up to me for a while now. All my friends have told me that I need to see them since I like horror movies so much. I had put off watching them since I figured I would just be let down, but finally I decided to sit down and watch the first and second one. I thought the first film was fairly mediocre but I still enjoyed it. Then I popped "Cold Prey 2" in and I was speech less.

There are 3 things that every slasher movie needs to be enjoyable

1. Likable characters - You have to like them in order to be able to cheer them on.

2. A Scary Killer - Someone so intimidating and terrifying that just the sheer thought of them coming after you gives you goosebumps.

3. A Good Pace - This is what a lot of slasher movies get wrong and this was one of the main problems I had with the first film. You don't want to take too long to get the kills going.

"Cold Prey 2" succeeds in all 3 of these aspects very well. The Killer is terrifying, the characters are likable, and things get going almost right from the start. Plenty of gore for the gore hounds and plenty of kills.

If you were not a fan of the 1st film I still suggest you give this one a try. Its a great ride 9/10

Strong Sequel
jimmyhoover-5586118 November 2020
The survivor of a brutal massacre is transported to a hospital on its last legs along along with the corpses of her friends and their killer. Unfortunately, the killer isn't quite dead and he wakes up, ready to wreak havoc on the skeleton crew of the hospital.

I was a bit lukewarm on the original Cold Prey when I saw it several years ago, so it took me a long time to seek out the sequel, but I do think I enjoyed this one a little bit more than the first. It does take nearly 40 minutes for anything of note to happen which kind of spoils things a little bit, but once they get going, it's worth it and it's a very satisfying sequel that turns up the intensity a good deal.

Nice sequel for that kind of movie...
Thanos_Alfie4 February 2014
"Fritt vilt II" is the sequel of "Fritt vilt" and in this one we find Jannicke who wakes up in the hospital and all of her friends are dead and she is alone or she thinks that she is. One and last thing I have to say, and that is that her nightmare did not even start.

I liked this movie and I believe that is a really good sequel for a horror movie and I also believe that the interpretation of Ingrid Bolsø Berdal as Jannicke for one more time was really nice. I also liked the interpretation of Marthe Snorresdotter Rovik who plays as nurse of this hospital and helps Jannicke.

Finally I have to say that I did not expect that "Fritt vilt II" to be such a nice horror movie and I am glad that it was.

Disappointingly - the slasher is now portrayed as almost superhero, but the story is better than the first!
nitzanhavoc23 November 2012
Having seen the first film of the series, I was really looking forward to this one. Fritt Vilt should definitely be remembered as Norway's lead Slasher (though I haven't had any chance to see any other Norwegian Horror films). Instead of writing this review as I usually like to, separating the good from the bad, I've decided this time to write my thoughts in the chronological order they've occurred.

First of all - Cold Prey 2 picked up pretty much exactly where Cold Prey ended, and was an actual sequel, rather than a film that only used the same location or same slasher. It even used the same surviving girl from the first film. A very good thing in my opinion! Unfortunately, something about her hair was different. It wasn't as obvious as Mark Hamil's total makeover between The Empire Strikes Back and The Return of the Jedi, but it was still noticeable and slightly hurt suspension of disbelief.

Second - Slasher-wise, this sequel unfortunately pretty much devastated all the greatness of the first film. While in the first film the characters were up against a man (larger and stronger than average and completely crazy, but still a man), in this one the Mountain Man had become this Jason Voorhees adaptation. Suddenly - his strength levels in the superhuman, and a wrench thrown directly at his head has barely any effect. A let down... However, the background story attached to this phenomenon was dark, murky and original. Still, better off with just human slashers, I say either make the film a monster/aliens film or one with human villains. Most importantly - be persistent, if the first film presented the slasher as a man, don't make him a superhero in the 2nd.

Third - the ending, while having no twists and no exceptionally wise turn of events, was still very original and well done! Excellent acting by Ingrid Bolsø Berdal (despite her hair) and a great way to finish the story while leaving some potential loose ends for the third film.

Coming to think of it, now that I re-read the aforementioned notes, I think I liked this film even more than the first one! What a pity that based on the rules of 99% of trilogies, the third one is going to be lousy :) Let's hope it isn't!

An improvement
TdSmth57 December 2014
Some park ranger literally almost runs into Jannicke, the sole survivor right after the events of part I. She passes out in the middle of the road so he takes her and the ice pick she's holding to the hospital. He's the boyfriend of one of the nurses there. There's another nurse and one dr. and only 2 patients, a boy and an old woman.

Eventually the cops arrive to interview her and are a bit doubtful about her story. Nevertheless they send a team to the ice cave and they drag out the bodies of the victims and of the killer and take them to the hospital. And wouldn't you know, 30 minutes into the movie, the dead killer shows signs of life so he's resurrected by the medical team. Jannicke tries to stop them to no avail. Instead she's put in restrains. But for some reason they never gave her drugs to knock her out. Previously she had nightmares and visions and even visited the bodies of her friends in the morgue.

Now with the killer on the lose, off course he turns the light off and starts taking people out. The main cop meanwhile starts to investigate the killer. He saw the birthmark on his face and it looked familiar to him. There are also plenty of cold cases of missing people in the area so he sends his people back to the cave and they find countless bodies. Now he believes Jannicke and makes it to the hospital as the killer is about to run out of people to kill. The cops mount an operation to take the killer out. It doesn't go well. That forces Jannicke to take matters into her own hand. Back she goes to the hotel of part I in the hopes of running into the killer. He doesn't disappoint.

Cold Prey 2 is more polished than part 1. It has better characters and an excellent direction. The setting of a hospital is better until it gets dark. But it's not good enough. If you are filming a movie out in the country in Norway why not show some of it. And what a difference it makes when we finally get to go outside during the day in sunlight in the final scenes. A problem for me is that Jannicke doesn't make that good a lead. I kept hoping the killer would gut her. In good world-wide media establishment fashion, the men in this movie are completely useless and the women are the tough and smart heroines. Cold Prey 2 is a competent slasher that still could have been improved some more.

Predictable!!!
JohnFilmfreak12 October 2008
Within the first 10 minutes of Fritt Vilt 2, you'll understand who'll survive, who'll die, and in what order. Within that same time, you'll also be really sick and tired of all the tedious "fake scares" accompanied by loud sound effects. If you're unlucky enough to have been dragged along to watch this at the cinema, you'll most likely also understand that the average age of the other people in the audience is about 13. There are some OK moments in Fritt Vilt 2, a few laughs, and almost a tiny bit of nudity, but alas its all halfhearted. At the end of the movie, you'll be left with nothing but disappointment, but hey, wasn't that also quite predictable of a slasher movie sequel from Norway?

On and on
kosmasp15 February 2012
I really wasn't fond of the first Cold Prey movie (the ending was the final nail in the coffin of a movie that had very little to offer for me). I'm assuming you have seen the first one and know how it ended. If not, it does make sense watching it (especially if you are more of a slasher movie fan), because this does continue where the other one left off at the end.

This is more straightforward and does not try to be "cute" (again talking about the ending of the other movie, but also about "character" moments and decisions that you'll only see in a movie like this one). Which makes it watchable (again I can only talk for myself here) and kinda fun most of the time.

We have an new, awesome slasher franchise on our hands!
mdnobles199 December 2009
An sequel that is just as good and kick ass as the original! I thought it was more violent and action packed this time around but not overly done because just like in the original it focused on suspense and scares and character development more than gore and torture which is very rare in slashers these days. I thought the acting was just as strong or even better than in the original with our strong, heroine female lead who I think is very sexy, Hollywood should recruit her! There is not one dull moment in this film and is more fast paced than the original but it also has a build up too and is twice as entertaining and thrilling but the things that kept me from giving it a full 5 star rating is that it kind of lost its slasher touch making it more like an action/thriller with an body count and was less scary. The last half was fantastic though and kept me on the edge of my seat and had me rooting for the lead to survive and the film leaves it open for a Cold Prey 3 and I can't wait! Overall this is the best slasher series I've seen since maybe Scream 1 and 2 because to me it's near perfection when it comes to slasher flicks and I highly recommend it for fans of the genre. More of a 4.5 out of 5 stars. SEE IT ASAP!!! AS WELL AS THE FIRST ONE IF YOU HAVEN'T YET!

Norway does it again
acidburn-103 July 2010
Warning: Spoilers
The sequel to the brilliance that was Cold Prey does it again with this excellent follow up.

The Plot = This picks up exactly where the last one left off, where Jannicke is picked up from the side of the road dazed confused and full of blood, is taken to the local hospital which in fact is closing down, where only a few members of staff are working there and a handful of patients, but when the police find the bodies of her friends and killer and are brought back to the hospital, the killer comes back alive and starts pick-axing his way through the hospital.

Wow very rarely we get a sequel that matches the original but this one actually does and again hits all the right notes, where in the first one was mostly character development in this one we get a bigger body count and more action, which again I always love. The killer yet again was genuinely creepy, big, brutal and is even more nastier, like the scene with the nurse and the fire extinguisher (really brutal).

Again like the first one, we get a build up of the main characters and then kicks into gear gives nearly an hour's worth of sweet action, as the survivors attempt to avoid the mountain man and exit the hospital in time for more police to arrive. The death's are pretty bloody, but sadly there's not a lot of on-screen gore. Although there are a couple somewhat creepy scenes, a lot of the great mood and atmosphere that the first had is lost in this one. That's essentially the price you have to pay when you want a feature with lots of action elements, which in my opinion make for a more entertaining watch (depending on the story).

A factor I liked about this movie was that we get more of a back story on the killer this time, which really kept me interested and I even wanted to find out more and more, and the cast were again decent, I liked the fact that they were normal looking people and not fashion models The killer also makes for an interesting hunter, laying down a couple traps for our victims to find themselves caught in, proving that he's also fairly intelligent. The final scene was just pure brilliance and doesn't suck like a lot of movies I've seen.

The cast, well Ingrid Bolso Berdal (Jannicke) does it again, I was glad that she survived the first time round and this time she's just as great becoming more of a action babe this time round without going over the top which I liked and Marthe Snorresdotter Rovick (Camilla) was an interesting addition to the cast as the Doctor, she made a very sympathetic character and not just another crying and sobbing supporting player she really comes into her own especially towards the end.

All in all while the first one delivered mood and atmosphere, this one delivers old school action slasher with an intimidating and potentially iconic killer and another must see. I can't wait for part 3.

From the deserted snowy landscape to an isolated hospital, a slasher movie can't get better than this.
Fella_shibby29 September 2023
I first saw this in 2010 on a dvd which I own.

Revisited it recently.

This film picks up where the first left off, so it's a direct continuation and inspite of this, this second part takes ample time to start the action cos we have new characters but the the director did a fine job in character development as well as creating solid suspense n tension. In this part we come to know more terrifying past of the killer.

The premise in this one changes from the deserted snowy landscape to a Norwegian hospital that is on the verge of being closed down and is mostly isolated n far off from main city.

I liked this one more than its predecessor cos it has more kills, some brutal ones, lots of suspense n tension n one of my fav horror movie locations.

Halloween n Visiting Hours may come to viewers' mind while viewing this.

"Cold Prey II" successfully follows up its original with a good level of suspense and legitimate jump scares
ersinkdotcom18 March 2013
There's just something about the country of Norway that lends itself to being the perfect location for a horror film. Maybe it's the image most people have of it being desolate, cold, dark, and isolated. It might also have something to do with the fact that 90 percent of the music we hear coming out of the country is death or black metal. "Cold Prey II" definitely doesn't help give movie audiences an alternate view of what to expect if you plan a ski trip to that part of the world.

After surviving a horrific killing spree at an abandoned ski lodge, a college girl named Jannicke (Ingrid Bolsø Berdal) is taken to a remote hospital for treatment. She tells her story to the local police who decide to investigate her claims. They return hours later with the bodies of her four friends and the mountain man responsible for the massacre. Unfortunately, the monstrous murderer isn't dead and begins slaughtering the patients, nurses, and doctors in his mission to finish what he started with Jannicke.

"Cold Prey II" is the perfect example of a modern slasher film done right. Although it brings nothing new to the table, it manages to keep up a level of suspense and delivers some legitimate jump scares at the same time.

I couldn't shake the feeling that director Mats Stenberg and writer Thomas Moldestad were doing their own version of "Halloween II" and "Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter" for a Norwegian audience. Like those classic 1980s films, much of the action takes place in a hospital. The vision of the giant killer in "Cold Prey II" standing at the end of a corridor with the lights blinking reminded me of the same type of scenes in the sequels to John Carpenter and Sean S. Cunningham's iconic originals.

"Cold Prey II" is a welcome addition to the slasher genre. It's not doing anything new, but continues passing the torch to a new generation of horror fans and filmmakers. It will give viewers a sense of hope we don't get much anymore when it comes to these types of movies.

Superiorly Supreme Norwegian Slasher Art
Coventry7 November 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Logically unfolding sequel to the supremely atmospheric and haunting Norwegian horror hit "Cold Prey", released two years prior. Sole survivor Jannicke gets picked up by the side of a snowy road and taken to a nearby hospital that is as good as empty due to being closed very soon. She's in shock and nobody believes her grotesque story about the pick-axe wielding maniac that butchered her friends. They're forced to sing a different tune when the five cadavers are recovered from the ravine and brought back to the hospital morgue. The police also discovers a few dozen of other frozen corpses, including that of the killer. He really must be Jason Voorhees' distant Scandinavian relative, as he miraculously resurrects from his body bag. The medics successfully attempt to bring him back, naturally much against the will of a hysterical Jannicke, and she's obviously right to protest as he promptly continues his relentless killing spree. Meanwhile, the local police commissioner digs up the 30-year-old missing person file and discovers a handful of interesting personality details about our deranged killer. "Cold Prey II" is a more than worthwhile successor of the original, this time with a sinister abandoned hospital setting instead of an abandoned skiing resort setting. Also like in the original, the characters are identifiable and amiable individuals and you certainly don't wish for them to die in such barbaric and excruciatingly painful ways. Like the cute blond nurse who's being smashed to death with a fire extinguisher, for example. Ouch! The sequel is actually even slightly more suspenseful than the first film, because there's a more intense aura of mystery hanging around the killer's persona. The first half hour is particularly scary, prior to his resurrection, because you can't really guess which direction the writers have chosen for this film. There are nicely eerie decors and set pieces, great use of ominous music and always the exact right dose of lighting. Let it be clear that these Norwegians definitely know how to generate the right mood for an atmospheric and nightmarishly intense horror film. "Cold Prey II" also benefices from terrific acting performances, including the one from the little kid. The last half hour follows a very exciting cat-and-mouse game between the killer, hiding somewhere in the hospital, the two female survivors and a bunch of policemen. These sequences are authentically scary. When is the last time a slasher actually scared you? The finale is brilliant and Jannicke unfolds herself as one of the most prolific and heroic female horror protagonists of the last decade. There's another entry on the way, apparently a prequel set in the 1980's. I, for one, cannot wait!

Second time out for cold-weather slasher ups the violence and tension
VideoEmbolism18 March 2014
This is a pretty decent slasher trilogy in the making.

I saw the first "Cold Prey" and thought it was okay. It was kind of slow and the kills weren't that great but it was beautifully filmed, well- enough acted for a Swedish film, or maybe that's Norwegian, who knows, and it had an awesome twist ending with one of the best hardcore metal songs to the end credits I have ever heard. In many respects it was a lot like Halloween (1978).

"Cold Prey 2" is even better than the first. It keeps all the successful elements from the first movie (well shot, well acted, well-directed) but has more kills, more tension and less build-up which is good because really, I've seen it all before and unless your birthing some slasher narrative miracle of nature there really is no need to have protracted character development revolving around horny teens.

Actually I liked this one (#2) better because it takes place in a hospital, has fully mature adults who are way less happy and way less whiny than the annoying teens in the first movie and has way better kills and pacing.

By the way, Halloween 2 (1980) takes place in a hospital. Go figure.

Excellent Sequel
TRussellMorris12 November 2019
I absolutely loved the 1st one, classic slasher done so very well. This sequel was fantastic as well. It moved from one great place of atmosphere to another one. From the cold hotel to an even colder looking hospital, It had more of just about everything the 1st one did, but still without crossing the lines into "junk gore". It remained, like the first,. a remarkable classic slasher with all the right bells, whistles and jump scares. It's much harder to find = a lot more expensive to got your hands on than the 1st but well worth it in every way if you are looking for another quality slasher for your collection.

What kind of slasher lover am I....make me jump, creep me out, give me moody atmosphere and decent blood kills but I have zero interest in being psychologically traumatized (Torture and disturbing stuff) or making me want to vomit with disgust. (Needless gore and guts). If you like classic slashers you should love this well enough.

Superior to the first and one of the best slashers of the decade!

Warning: Spoilers
After surviving the brutal murder spree at the abandoned mountain hotel, Yannicke (Ingrid Bolsø Berdal) is found stranded in the snow by a rescue worker. She's taken to the local hospital where she reveals the story of the massacre of her friends at the ski lodge by the masked psychopath Geir (Robert Follin, who replaced the first film's Rune Melby). Upon investigating the scene of the crime, the police discover & retrieve the corpses of Yannicke's friends along with the murderer. Unluckily for the staff and patients of the hospital, however, Dr. Hermann (Fridtjov Såheim) decides to play hero and save the vicious mass murderer who had shown brief signs of life. This spells bad news for everyone as Geir breaks free and goes on yet another vicious murder spree through the hospital.

Taking an obvious page from the book of the 'Halloween' franchise, rookie filmmaker Mats Stenberg, taking over for the first film's director Roar Uthaug, moves the 'Fritt Vilt' story out of the lodge and into the hospital, very much like Laurie Strode's experience in 'Halloween II.' It seemed, at first, that this sequel would lose the feel of the first film due to the change in location, but it ended up not losing a beat at all. In fact, everything in this sequel seemed boosted by the location change. The story gets moving quickly, but still manages to get in enough character development to give viewers a bit of interest for the soon-to-be victims. This is a very refreshing as the slasher subgenre is famous for its lack of character development, using characters more as props for the killer to slaughter in various ways. But, worry not, the characters here still suffered their own share of vicious & creative murders. Along with the brutality of the kills, we're given some fantastically well done & realistic gore scenes. However, the film is not solely about the slasher-style scares & kills. In fact, 'Fritt Vilt II' has some of the best suspense and build-up I've seen in this subgenre for a long time. Due to the small cast, there had to be a good balance of suspense & an entertaining pace, and the film delivered beautifully.

As far as the technical aspects go, the film is top notch for the subgenre. While the story may not be the most original or unpredictable, the approach works very well, made even better by director Stenberg's execution. A positive that many fans will notice is the realism of the return of the killer. Instead of the typical Jason/Michael "sit up & kill" reanimation, Geir is actually given a genuine reason for coming back, and that is another welcome element. The cinematography of Anders Flatland is both beautiful and effective. He manages to show us precisely everything we need to see in interesting ways without pulling the reveals too quickly. The cast, as well, did very well in their individual roles. Although very few of the characters had to pull off overly complex characters, Yannicke definitely had some substance to work with and performed very well as one of the most badass "final girls" that's come to the slasher subgenre in a while.

Overall, 'Fritt Vilt II' is a fantastic entry into the genre and is a contender as one of the best slashers of the decade, being one of the few films that may all-around surpass its predecessor.

Final Verdict: 8.5/10
