1. There's no such thing as an 'assault rifle', for sobbing out loud; law enforcement officers know this, and if they don't their employment should be reconsidered.
AR-15 stands for Armalite Rifle, NOT assault rifle.
2. The marine who shares the house with Ryne owns several weapons; THIS DOES NOT MAKE HIM AN AUTOMATIC SUSPECT. To handcuff and detain him based solely on that single fact is a violation of his civil rights. These bumbling officers are lucky he didn't sue- I'm not sure I could say the same. He was incredibly cooperative, answered all questions, submitted to a GSR test, and gave absolutely no indication he was an immediate threat.
3. Responding officers should have pressed Caleb's brother more at the initial interview- he didn't render aid, he fled the scene, and seemed elusive and purposely vague. A few more well directed questions likely get you an immediate suspect instead of focusing on innocent people.
4. STOP INSISTING ANYONE THAT ASKS FOR A LAWYER IS BEING DIFFICULT/UNCOOPERATIVE/GUILTY! After as many false arrests and convictions as we've seen in this country's history, I question anyone with 'nothing to hide' that doesn't immediately insist on having an attorney present. Don't like it? Too bad. Be better officers and you'd have more public trust without having to fear a false prosecution and accusations leveled. Far too many people have had their lives destroyed by being named a suspect or 'person of interest' and that sticks for life.
This investigation is a highlight reel that should be shown (with the exception of the students with nothing to offer except how THEY are victims, seriously?) to new officers on how not to conduct a murder investigation.
