- James: [while being repainted he sees Henry accidentally derail some trucks] If you can't push trucks properly, Henry, why not talk to a tree instead. You know how much you love the forest.
- Henry: As a matter of fact, bossy boiler, The Fat Controller is inspecting the island for trees that are too close to the line! He's worried they might cause trouble.
- James: [laughs] Pah! If I came upon a tree, I'd just push it aside!
- Henry: Really?
- James: [as James shows off his paintwork to Thomas, Percy, and Terence, who are clearing up the forest] Make way for an important engine!
- Percy: [reproachfully] You wouldn't feel important if one of these trees crashed on you. You'd feel hurt!
- James: Rubbish! It wouldn't dare!
- Terence: You should be careful, James. Trees can be just as powerful as engines.
- James: Pah! Now excuse me, The Fat Controller needs me to pull the Express.
- Troublesome Truck: [as James collects his goods train] Your color's nice, James. Pity about your face though.
- [last lines]
- James: [after Thomas rescues him from the tree] Percy and Terence were right to warn me. Thank you for rescuing me, Thomas.
- Thomas: Oh, that's all right. We engines must pull together, whatever the weather.
- Edward: [Edward pulls in] The Fat Controller says you're both brave engines. Thomas, you're going to have a new coat of paint. And James, The Fat Controller says that tomorrow, you'll pull the special Express.
- Percy: [confiding to Thomas about James' bragging] It's been like this all day; James is getting a new coat of paint and won't stop boasting about it.
- Thomas: [fuming and is covered in coal dust] Why James? I'm the one who needs a new coat. Look at me!
- James: [retorting] I'd rather not. You're not a pleasant sight and wouldn't understand the means of a really important engine.
- James: [stopping in front of the tree standing on the tracks] Ooohh, help! Go away!
- Narrator: But of course, the tree couldn't.
- James: I deserve a new coat of paint! The Fat Controller says I'm the pride of the line and...
- Henry: Rubbish! We're all the pride of the line!
