This is another Metro Movietone Revue I highly enjoyed
tavm4 December 2012
This is the first of the Metro Movietone Revue shorts presented on The Broadway Melody DVD that was hosted by one Jack Pepper. The first number has The Reynold Sisters dancing to "Sweet Sue", a song I first heard on "I Love Lucy". They're quite charming and Pepper does a nice joke about one of them being dumb since she was fired from Woolworth's Five and Dime store when she asked how much the items were. Actually, I just remembered they're the second act. It's the Ponce Sisters that are first and they're very charming themselves with their harmonies. Next, Joseph Regan performs that old chestnut "When Irish Eyes are Smiling", a pleasant enough tune. Then, Jack sings a couple of ditties (one of which he says is Irving Berlin's "Blue Skies" but that's the bunk if you watched this one) before finally intros Frances White singing how she'd like to be a monkey in a zoo. She's pretty amusing here and the tune would make a great children's song. So on that note, I highly enjoyed this Metro Movietone Revue short.
