As one would fully expect, Real Time with Bill Maher is pulling no punches when it comes to our newly elected President. While we still haven’t heard from Maher regarding the refugee, immigration traveling polices that have been owning the headlines today, Maher took multiple shots at Trump on Real Time last night. “Democrats have gone from the party that protects people to the party that protects feelings. From, ‘Ask not what your country can do for you,’ to, ‘You owe me an apology,’” Maher said on Friday night’s Real Time With Bill Maher. “Republicans apologize for nothing, Democrats for

Ask not what Dr. Lecter’s last supper would look like, but rather, whom.
That’s just one of the thoughts that went through my head during this week’s tense, sexy, disgusting and at times utterly confounding installment of Hannibal — which found our titular sociopath attempting to truss up loose ends in Florence, while other characters engaged in sex so kaleidoscopic that I wondered if NBC should label it TV-wtw (what the What is happening on my TV screen?)

"Ask not why you were imprisoned. Ask why you were set free."
Here's a new poster for Spike Lee's upcoming Oldboy remake, which stars Josh Brolin, Elizabeth Olsen, and Sharlto Copley. This is one of the craziest revenge stories ever, and I'm curious to see how Lee handled it. This new poster for the film features an actual shot from the film, and it's got an interesting look and tone. We'll get a better idea of what's in store for us on Wednesday when the first trailer is released.
Oldboy is a provocative, visceral thriller that follows the story of an advertising executive (Josh Brolin) who is abruptly kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his bizarre and torturous punishment only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment.

Ask not why you were imprisoned. Ask why you were set free. Love that tagline, but what is up with the rest of this? This may just win the award for wackiest, but perhaps most original, poster design of the year. FilmDistrict has released the first theatrical poster for Spike Lee's Oldboy remake, starring Josh Brolin as the one held captive for 20 years. However, they take that concept to the extremes on this poster, putting Brolin inside some kind of big chest in the middle of a grassy clearing. The other odd addition is the girl in the background with the years counted on her umbrella. I wonder who she is? You'll want to see this poster. Here's the new poster for Spike Lee's Oldboy, found via The Film Stage. The first trailer debuts Wednesday. Spike Lee's Oldboy, written by Mark Protosevich (The Cell, I Am Legend) based on the original manga,...

Clone High Episode 2 ‘Episode Two: Electric Blu-Galoo’
Written by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller
Aired 11/3/02
When you were in high school, how far were you willing to go to get the person you liked to notice you? Like I said last week in the review of its pilot, one of the many levels of brilliance within Clone High is the show’s ability to make heart-warming parodies of teenage angst, and the extremes we’re willing to go to be popular and loved.
Of course, for Abe, this is truly taking things to the extreme (or X-Stream). When Cleo finds out she can’t run for re-election of the class thanks to some lame term limits, and plans to manipulate either JFK or Abe into winning to supplement the amount of popularity she stands to lose without being the head of the student body. Most of ‘Episode Two’ revolves around...

Jack Palance kisses mice. Teri Hatcher plays drums. Just two of the many remarkable things we've discovered in Tango & Cash...
In this occasional series of 'remarkable things' articles, we've mostly focused exclusively on movies that were critical or financial flops. Previous entries have included Jaws: The Revenge, Battlefield Earth and RoboCop 3, which all suffered in both critics' reviews and at the box office.
This time, our choice isn't a notorious flop at all - it's Tango & Cash, a film which actually made a few million dollars more than it cost to make. At this stage in Sylvester Stallone's career, which featured the critical and financial nightmares Rocky V, Oscar and Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot, Tango & Cash was a comparative blockbuster.
In terms of critical reception, though, Tango & Cash fared less well. It was nominated for three Razzies (though won precisely none) and reviews...

I believe it was John F. Kennedy who famously said “Ask not what your country can do for you, but who you can kill for your country.” That might be a misquote, but the point is volunteering should be the duty of every young American. There are trails to be blazed, streets to be cleaned and naive young do-gooding ladies to be plowed. A couple of those are the motivating factors behind the poor souls in this week’s horror flick… I Didn’t Come Here to Die. A group of six youths head into the woods to do their part for society, but they discover the hard way that no good deed goes unpunished. Oh, and tree branches can be a real bitch. Kills Six volunteers go into the woods. One comes out. Ills There’s lots of talking here, but the words are broken up with splashes of bloody goodness here and there. We...

Can you say "Ewan-McGregor-in-a-blanket"? The Golden Globe-nominated actor is reimagined as a tasty appetizer in the new trailer for Bryan Singer's "Jack the Giant Slayer," a cinematic adaptation of the famed Cornish fairytale that stars Nicholas Hoult ("X-Men: First Class," upcoming zombie rom-com "Warm Bodies") as the title character and McGregor as Elmont, a royal soldier who accompanies Jack on a mission to rescue a beautiful princess (Eleanor Tomlinson) from the clutches of a race of menacing giants. "Fee-fi-fo-fum," begins the ominous voiceover, playing over a series of visuals that establish the giants' impressively-realized skybound land. "Ask not whence the thunder...

Social media's reaction to Clint Eastwood's bizarre speech at the Republican National Convention, in which he addressed an empty chair as President Obama, was swift and merciless.
Within hours of the Hollywood icon's mystifying address, the chair had its own Twitter account (@InvisibleObama), verb ("Eastwooding," usually accompanied by a hand pointing to an empty chair), a Simpsons meme and countless trending hashtags.
#InsertChair, for example, spawned gems like these: "No chairs for Old Men"; "Chair: The Musical"; "Ask not what your chair can do for you, but what you can do for your chair"; "Open mouth, #insertchair; "I'm gonna wash that man right outta my chair"; "Medichair"; and this tribute to the late Neil Armstrong, "One small step for chair. One giant leap for chairkind."
Even the sitting president himself offered a rebuttal:

The Wedding. Ask not which one. I do not report on events in some mall in Cedarhurst. Nobody worries Miss Middling Middleton won't be a great queen. They fret she might be a large klutz. A fumbling bumbling stumbling bride could tumble the bustling monarchy as well as the balding prince. Kate's taking stagecoach lessons. Lumbering in and out of the palace's gilded horse-drawn carriages. Thursday she practiced stepping up and down in ladylike fashion. She wore jeans so Buckingham's Royal Carriage master could teach Her semi-Highness where to stick feet and toes. Next day the process was repeated.

When the screener for the first two episodes of The Kennedys arrived I was honestly excited, for here sits a person whose university dissertation was entitled ‘Goodbye Norma Jean’ and focussed on that period of Us history which the Kennedy family led America and gave hope to the world.
For me and for many others, the Kennedys have an enduring appeal, as much for their expressed political values as for their imperfections and I have found them compelling despite these. This is pretty much the mindset that one needs to apply to this series. The series begins on The History Channel tonight after a reportedly chequered journey to the screen, already denounced by the family it depicts and much maligned crtiically as a poor version of a very good story. Despite all this I quite liked it.

Ask not what your country can do for you, but how you can savage a prominent family after its members have passed away.
"The Kennedys," the brainchild of Joel Surnow, the conservative behind the hit show "24," is an eight part miniseries about the first family of American politics -- and the series itself courts as much controversy as it seeks to portray. After vocal complaints from the Kennedy family and historians, the series was dropped by its producer, The History Channel, and then struggled to find a broadcast home -- it was rejected by Showtime and Starz, amongst other outlets -- before being picked up by ReelzChannel.
After one mild trailer, a new one has been released, this one revealing alleged nefarious intentions, affairs and unsubtle evil speeches from family patriarch, Joe Kennedy. The film closely mirrors that of the script preview The Daily Beast obtained earlier in the year,...

"The Kennedys," History Channel's rejected orphan of a miniseries, premieres on ReelzChannel in April. And though you almost definitely don't know what ReelzChannel is, they're trying their darnedest to whet your appetite with another trailer.
No new ground is covered in the lengthy spot -- they're still more or less portraying Camelot as a bunch of shady hoodlums and the costume designer is the only person involved who seemed to take this project seriously -- but we do learn something...
The Internet is hilariously smart.
A bar of Google ads runs across the bottom of the embedded player, and in addition to offering up "Ask Not" John F. Kennedy graphic t-shirts (we'll take three, please!), there's a link to the official Scientology web site.
Because if you're actually planning on watching "The Kennedys," it's probably because you sit a few rows over from Katie Holmes at Sunday services.

Watching the Reelz Channel trailer for The Kennedys, it’s immediately clear why members of the Kennedy family and their loyal supporters lobbied against its broadcast. It opens with a callous remark about the ways of the world, and closes with JFK on a slab. This is not a miniseries to celebrate, “Ask not what your country can do for you…,” but to illuminate the clan’s fatal ambition, illustrated by the patriarch’s Palpatine-like remark, “This country is ours for the taking!”

In this age of media access with no boundaries at all, it's sort of impossible to contemplate a time when pieces of oratory could actually feel special. President Barack Obama has brought a little bit of that back to the public forum (several of his speeches — including his inaugural address and his "Philadelphia speech" about race — have taken on mythic proportions), but generally speaking, people don't hang on the words of great speakers very much anymore. That's why John F. Kennedy's inaugural address (which he delivered on this day in 1961, exactly half a century ago) still resonates strongly today. Not only was it a speech full of inspiration and substance, but it was also delivered by a master orator.

Jan. 20, 2011 marks the 50th anniversary of President John. F. Kennedy's only inaugural address. It was here that he uttered his most famous line, "Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country."
Google is honoring the anniversary by putting together a version of its logo featuring JFK and various quotes from the famous speech. The full text of the speech is below, with video of his address above.

We observe today not a victory of party, but a celebration of freedom -- symbolizing an end, as well as a beginning -- signifying renewal, as well as change. For I have sworn before you and Almighty God the same solemn oath our forebears prescribed nearly a century and three-quarters ago.
The world is very different now.

Another year gone by, another "Call of Duty" out of the gates. The latest entry in the immensely popular first-person shooter series is a Treyarch original, the same developer behind "Call of Duty 3" and "Call of Duty: World at War." Frequently considered a second fiddle to franchise creator Infinity Ward and their own entries in the series, the team at Treyarch has nonetheless gotten to see firsthand what "Cod" fans want and how to give it to them. They brought the benefit of all that experience into the development of "Call of Duty: Black Ops" and, well... let's just say the series' place in this crowded market as a gold-standard shooter is in no danger of being threatened.

Today the Obama administration formally launched Challenge.gov, a tool that enables government agencies to solicit ideas from the public to solve issues plaguing the country. After watching Tasha deal with some serious homophobes on The L Word, where she dealt with the effects of the U.S. military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy, I couldn’t help but agree with what Alice had to say: “You've worked your whole life to just deny who you are?”
The big ol’ mess that is “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” technically started in 1993, when Bill Clinton became a thorn in the proverbial gay side after promising to allow people of all sexual orientations to serve in the military — only to approve a ban on gays in the military after he was elected.
