If you haven’t taken the leap to bundle Disney+ and Hulu, it might be time. Streaming is only getting more expensive and competitive, and the enticing bundle (which also includes ESPN) might be a version of cable TV, but it’s also just cost efficient. Disney+ and Hulu are so intertwined that their monthly listing updates come in the same email — and as such, we decided to compile them here for you in the same list.
Whether you have Disney+ or Hulu, or both (and the IndieWire staff has weighed on our favorites), each has its benefits. Disney has the family-friendly titles, the Star Wars and Marvel (new episodes of “The Bad Batch” and “X-Men: 97” continue through April), while Hulu is the place to catch FX originals and network episodes. Both streamers have the rights to distribute National Geographic titles, which are well worth exploring along with the rest of the library.

A New Year means lots of removals from Netflix and January 1st is looking busy, with over 100 movies set to leave the service already. Below, we’ll be keeping track of all the Netflix departures for the first month of 2024.
First, a few housekeeping notes as to how Netflix removals work before we dive in. Due to licensing agreements, shows and movies added to Netflix aren’t added forever. Instead, they’re essentially rented for a fixed period. All the shows below have their current window on Netflix ending and will likely be bound for a rival streaming service.
We list titles slightly differently from other outlets, with our listings being the actual day of removal. If you want to watch any titles scheduled to expire on January 1st, for example, you’ll need to watch by the end of December 31st.

Russell Brand faces an investigation from a second British law enforcement body as the Thames Valley Police say a woman has contacted them with new information about stalking and harassment allegations she first brought in 2018, according to a Monday report from the BBC.
Last month, four women alleged that the actor and comedian sexually assaulted them between 2006 and 2013, according to an investigation by Britain’s Channel 4, The Times and The Sunday Times. Those allegations are being investigated by London Metro Police.
The fifth woman reported her allegations to Thames Valley Police between 2018 and 2022, alleging “sexual offenses” in 2017, but no action was taken at the time, the BBC reported. The department confirmed it was investigating Brand, but declined to provide additional details.
Brand has denied any wrongdoing and says the encounters with each of his accusers were consensual. Messages sent seeking comment were not immediately returned Monday.

Paramount+ has removed a stand-up comedy special starring Russell Brand in the wake of sexual assault allegations against the comic.
The 2009 special Russell Brand in New York City was taken off the streamer Tuesday. The removal follows the BBC’s decision to take TV and radio programming featuring Brand off its streaming platforms, with the broadcaster saying it “now falls below public expectations.”
YouTube has also suspended monetization on Brand’s channel (though not the channel itself), saying in a statement, “If a creator’s off-platform behavior harms our users, employees or ecosystem, we take action.” The company said Brand had violated YouTube’s “Creator Responsibility policy.”
Four women have accused Brand of rape, sexual assault and emotional abuse between 2006 and 2013, a period that coincided with his growing fame on both sides of the Atlantic. The allegations came via an investigation by The Times of London, The Sunday Times and Channel 4’s Dispatches.

Katy Perry and Russell Brand married in October 2010, a year after meeting when Perry had a cameo in Brand’s movie “Get Him to the Greek.” They announced their divorce 14 months later, and the “Roar” singer has since described her ex-husband as “controlling” and “really hurtful.”
As she said on “60 Minutes Australia” in 2020, “It was just like a tornado, it was everything happening at once.”
Perry and Brand’s relationship is under the microscope in light of new allegations of rape and sexual assault against the comedian. As fans of Perry’s recall, Brand told his then-wife he was divorcing her via text, moments before she was due onstage ahead of a major concert. The moment was captured in Perry’s “Part of Me” concert documentary.

Multiple women allege that actor and comedian Russell Brand, 48, sexually assaulted them between 2006 and 2013, according to an investigation by Britain’s Channel 4 and newspapers The Times and The Sunday Times.
It was during this period that Brand’s international popularity exploded with his role in 2008’s “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and 2010’s “Get Him to the Greek.” The latter portion of these years is when he was married to singer Katy Perry, from 2010 until their 2012 divorce.
Brand attempted to get ahead of the publication of the story on Friday by releasing a video denying some of the allegations, but admitting to having what he described as a period of promiscuity in his past. He’s regularly talked about having a sex addiction. Brand said that his relationships have all been consensual.
The allegations also include that Brand exhibited “controlling, abusive and predatory behavior,” according to the Times. The women do not know each other.

Russell Brand has published a video across his social media channels in which he preemptively denies a “litany” of allegations about unspecified criminal behavior at the height of his celebrity.
The Forgetting Sarah Marshall star said two UK “mainstream media” publications had sent him notice of their intention to publish stories about his alleged misconduct.
Deadline understands that Channel 4 and Rupert Murdoch-owned newspapers The Times and The Sunday Times are behind the stories.
Brand claimed that the right of reply letters contain “astonishing, rather baroque attacks” on his character, as well as “very serious” criminal allegations about his well-known sex addiction.

"I don't like feeling like the second most important man in your life..." Apple has unveiled the first official trailer for their new comedy series titled Platonic, a sort of anti-romcom from the genius comedy minds of Nick Stoller, Seth Rogen, and Rose Byrne. Streaming on Apple TV+ this May for anyone who is ready for some good laughs. Platonic follows a platonic pair of former best friends approaching their midlife (Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne) who reconnect after a long rift, hoping to get past that rift that led to their falling out. The duo's friendship becomes all consuming—and destabilizes their lives in a hilarious way. The ensemble cast also stars Luke Macfarlane, Tre Hale, Carla Gallo, and Andrew Lopez. This looks hilarious! I still can't tell if it's a series or a movie, because this trailer plays like a good movie trailer. I'm down anyway. This is going to be fun!

There was a time that Russell Brand was poised to be the next big comedy superstar. While already a controversial but well-known name in Britain, his role as rocker Aldous Snow in the Judd Apatow-produced Forgetting Sarah Marshall made him a star in North America. He was so popular that he got his own spin-off sequel, Get Him to the Greek, followed by an unsuccessful remake of Dudley Moore’s Arthur, which was critically reviled for stripping away the edge of the original. At this time, Brand, who was in danger of being best known for his personal life thanks to a high-profile marriage to Katy Perry, reinvented himself as a political activist and campaigner. His opinions have been controversial, particularly during the pandemic, but no one can deny that’s he a caring, careless campaigner, to the extent that his career took a backseat. In this episode of What Happened to this Celebrity,...

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s new Netflix documentary, Harry & Meghan, is fast becoming one of the most talked-about TV events of the year.
The series, which will drop its first three episodes on Thursday 8 December, is expected to be the couple’s most revealing TV appearance since their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021.
In the trailer for the new series, Prince Harry can be heard suggesting that there were stories “planted” against Markle during their time as senior members of the royal institution.
Here’s a rundown of Markle’s career in TV and film.
Markle made her acting debut in an episode of US soap opera General Hospital in 2002.
Her work throughout much of the next decade was characterised by short, one-episode appearances on TV series such as CSI: NY, 90210, and The League, also appearing in a two-episode arc on Fox’s sci-fi drama Fringe in...

Russell, 47, explained that a previous clip was removed from YouTube after he “cited information on official government websites, which we misinterpreted”.

Surprisingly, the idea to make the first studio LGBTQ romantic comedy did not originally spawn from its gay writer/star Billy Eichner, but rather his co-writer and director Nicholas Stoller. Stoller, who first cast Eichner in “Neighbors 2,” saw the potential early on when he cast him for a second time in his Netflix series “Friends from College.”
“I loved him from from ‘Billy on the Street,’” Stoller said during an interview for IndieWire’s Filmmaker Toolkit podcast. “And then we screened the first episode of that show in a movie theater and every time he was on screen, the audience exploded with laughter. And I was like, ‘Oh, this guy is like a movie star, which was really exciting.’” Soon after Stoller approach Eichner to see if he’d be willing to collaborate on something bigger. “I said, ‘Would you want ever wanna write a comedy vehicle for you? One of the most memorable experiences I had at TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) this year was attending the world premiere of Bros. For those not in the know, this is the first mainstream Lgtbq romantic comedy financed by a studio, and it stars Billy Eichner, who also co-wrote and directed the film. For all the press it’s receiving, one thing that seems to be missing is that at the end of the day, Bros is hilarious and works well for a mainstream audience. It’s Lgtbq-themed, but it’s a universal story everyone can enjoy. Indeed, watching it at Tff was terrific because the audience reacted to it like it was a rock concert, screaming in laughter from beginning to end.
I was lucky enough to speak to Billy Eichner, his co-stars Luke MacFarlane, Jim Rash (Community), Dot Marie Jones (Glee), Ts Madison, Eve Lindley and Miss Lawrence about the movie,...

After dropping the epic “Lord of the Rings” television series on Prime Video last month, it’s no surprise the streaming giant is taking it easy this October. They still have plenty of new shows and movies coming out, though none quite on the scale of their journey to Middle Earth.
That being said, they’re transitioning from the world of fantasy to science fiction with their new series “The Peripheral.” Touted as being from the creators of HBO’s “Westworld,” Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan, the time-traveling series is based on author William Gibson’s bestselling sci-fi novel.
Per an official synopsis: “The Peripheral” centers on Flynne Fisher (Moretz), a woman trying to hold together the pieces of her broken family in a forgotten corner of tomorrow’s America. Flynne is smart, ambitious, and doomed. She has no future; until the future comes calling for her. “The Peripheral” is...

“Bros” is another R-rated, envelope-pushing look at a man in a state of arrested development from Nicholas Stoller. It’s the kind of look at male neurosis, usually the kind of mania the pops up a decade shy of mid-life crisis time, that has been the director’s stock in trade in comedies like “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” “Get Him to the Greek” and “Neighbors.”
But this film has an important twist. It has an entirely LGBTQ cast and centers on two gay men with serious commitment issues — a stretch for Stoller, who is heterosexual. So he turned to Billy Eichner, who he knew from working together on “Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising” and “Friends From College,” to help him fashion an authentically queer “meet cute.” “Bros,” the culmination of a multi-year writing process that Stoller likens to therapy. The enduring rom-sitcom subgenre changed forever when “New Girl” walked through the front-door of 4D. On September 20, 2011, bonafide television genius Liz Meriwether — then known for the Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher-starring film “No Strings Attached” — debuted the pilot episode of what would become her breakout comedy series on Fox.
Starring Zooey Deschanel as the terminally optimistic school teacher Jessica Day — nicknamed Jess — “New Girl” told the story of six friends brought together by their chaotic lives in Los Angeles. Hannah Simone played Jess’s best friend Cece: a fiercely funny and protective model wary of her friend’s new living situation.

The making of "Superbad" was a blessed event. Everything from the heartwarmingly puerile script by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg to the hiring of highly underrated indie filmmaker Greg Mottola, seemed to go just right. The high school comedy about two affable, yet far-from-popular best friends (Michael Cera and Jonah Hill) who scheme to deliver a bounty of liquor for a year-end, senior-year bash perfectly captures the uncertain yearning of that strange pre-college summer. The film has since earned its place in the teen comedy firmament alongside the sacred likes of "Fast Times at Ridgemont High," "The Breakfast Club," and "Clueless."
While you can't ascribe the success of "Superbad" to one single factor, there are certain key elements that elevated the film to classic status. No disrespect to Emma Stone or the pitch-perfect soundtrack, but if we're going to spotlight one essential ingredient, we're slotting Christopher Mintz-Plasse's thunderbolt-of-overconfident-nerdery portrayal...

Stoller also directed “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and “Get Him to the Greek,” and, like those films, “Bros” is produced by Judd Apatow. Universal is distributing the movie, which centers on two gay men with commitment issues who find themselves gradually falling in love. Luke Macfarlane (“Killjoys”) plays the object of Eichner’s affection. In another milestone, Eichner is the first openly gay man to co-write and star in his own major studio film.
“Bros” opens in theaters on Sept. 30, 2022. Toronto runs from Sept. 8 through Sept. 18 and is looking to return in-person with a major Hollywood presence. Last year,...

This is a hilarious meta trailer that rips apart Hollywood for even trying to have Eichner make a gay romcom, but then gets into some of the craziness with some real footage. Looks cute! Though the confusingly named initiative “FX on Hulu” is on its way out, FX is still bringing premium television to Hulu in the meantime.
Hulu’s list of new releases for April 2022 is highlighted by FX limited series Under the Banner of Heaven. This adaptation of the non-fiction book by John Krakauer stars Andrew Garfield as a Mormon police detective whose faith is shaken when investigating a murder involving the church.
It’s not all just FX on the TV side of things for Hulu this month, however. The streamer is debuting second seasons of its series The Hardy Boys (April 6) and Woke (April 8). There isn’t much to report from Hulu’s original movies arm aside from true crime documentary Captive Audience on April 21. But that doc about one family’s 50-year journey for justice sounds like a must-watch.
April 1 sees the usual arrival of library film titles. Looper,...
