Noah Baumbach and Greta Gerwig have tied the knot.
The duo, who are both directors and writers and recently worked on Wbd’s record-breaking Barbie movie together, were married in New York at City Hall, a rep for Gerwig confirmed to People.
Baumbach and Gerwig have been together for over a decade, meeting on the 2010 film Greenberg before they officially began dating in 2011. They were engaged in 2020, with Gerwig telling James Corden on The Late Late Show that they didn’t use the word fiance to describe themselves because “it makes it sound like there’s an imminent wedding.”
Earlier this year, the couple welcomed their second son and Baumbach’s third. The announcement of their second child’s arrival came four months after his birth, confirmed in an Elle U.K. profile on the Barbie and Little Women director. The Lady Bird helmer had announced she was pregnant for...

After a terrific run at the global box-office with her directorial ‘Barbie’, Greta Gerwig has now turned a leaf on the new chapter in her life.
Greta and her longtime partner, Noah Baumbach are married, reports People magazine.
A source said that the two got married in New York City Hall.
The couple first met while filming the 2010 movie ‘Greenberg’ and began their romantic relationship in 2011.
The news comes after a busy year for the couple who co-wrote the ‘Barbie’ screenplay and announced that they quietly welcomed a second son in an interview with Elle UK published in July.
“The little guy is sleeping through the night. But I’m still doing that thing where I wake up, every hour to 90 minutes, and just hover. You just keep wanting to look at that baby. So I’m slightly in a twilight state,” the director told the outlet.

Leonard Maltin is probably the world’s most famous living film critic. For many people, he was the Internet Movie Database before the advent of the internet. The author of more than a dozen important books on film, he is best known for the exhaustive “movie guide” that he updated dozens of times between 1969 and 2014, on the cover of which appeared his bearded and bespectacled face and his name above the title from 1986 on, and which The New York Times described in 1996 as “the go-to choice for both film geeks and casual couch potatoes” and in 1997 as “the bible of American cinephiles.” And he also reviewed movies and interviewed just about every major filmmaker and star in front of a massive TV audience as the on-air film film critic for Entertainment Tonight from 1982 to 2012.

Over the past 15 years, writer, director, producer and actor Greta Gerwig has been one of the key figures in the independent film movement. After her early years as a star of the mumblecore film movement, Gerwig teamed up with her professional and life partner, writer/director Noah Baumbach, for a series of three films that broke through to general audiences, garnered widespread critical acclaim, and generated a Golden Globe nomination for Gerwig in “Frances Ha.”
But after she co-directed 2008’s romance “Nights and Weekends,” it seemed inevitable that Gerwig would return to the director’s chair, this time solo, and she did so in a spectacular fashion with her 2017 debut feature “Lady Bird.” Her coming-of-age story, set in Gerwig’s home town of Sacramento, earned five Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, as well as two individual nominations for Gerwig for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. Her second solo film,...

She only has three solo directorial efforts under her belt, but Greta Gerwig has quickly become one of the most highly respected filmmakers working today. Her 2017 coming-of-age drama “Lady Bird” was an instant teen classic upon release, and her 2019 adaptation of “Little Women” received similar rapturous acclaim, becoming the definitive film version of the classic book.
And in July, after an agonizing three year wait and acting a lead role in partner Noah Baumbach’s “White Noise,” Gerwig came back to theaters as a director with one of the biggest films of the year. “Barbie” is a colorful studio comedy based on the classic dolls from Mattel, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as the titular Barbie and her heartthrob Ken. After years as an indie darling, Greta Gerwig has become a box office sensation. The filmmaker’s third directorial effort “Barbie” has become one of the biggest movies of 2023, posting a massive $155 million opening weekend. And although the film’s numerous pleasures — including fantastic performances from Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, a blockbuster pop soundtrack, and immaculate (pink!) production and costume design — would have likely helped it find fans regardless. Gerwig’s confident direction and strong voice as a filmmaker is what’s really made the movie into a cultural juggernaut.
“Barbie” and its massive success seems to signal a completely new era of Gerwig’s career. Her next project will see her venture even further into blockbuster filmmaking with two film adaptations of “The Chronicles of Narnia” for Netflix. Greta Gerwig is looking forward to her biggest box-office hit yet as the director and writer of "Barbie," a gleefully quirky new take on the beloved brand. It's very much par for the course for Gerwig, who has made a career out of telling unusual, meaningful stories that examine life, love, and all the contradictory facets of femininity.
Today, Gerwig is probably best known as a director and a writer, with Oscar nominations for films like "Lady Bird" and "Little Women." What you might not know, though, is that she's actually an actress as well! In fact, she's starred in several of the movies she's written and directed throughout her career, as well as several others. For the most part, Gerwig's filmography leans towards indie films, and there are plenty of intriguing titles to take a look at.

Some names, once viewed on a marquee or YouTube ad, tend to draw a specific audience ranging from real fans to, “Oh yes, that guy.“ I could put the Duplass brothers, Mark and Jay, into both of these categories, with a lengthy filmography largely encompassing projects their company Duplass Brothers Productions has spearheaded, such as 2010’s “Cyrus” and “Jeff, Who Lives at Home”; Mark, in particular, has emerged as the higher profile of the two, consistently delivering as an actor in diverse roles ranging from horror (“Creep”) to TV comedy (“The League”) offbeat humor and more. “The Long Long Night,” another Mark Duplass vehicle, would likely fall into the latter category; originating from show creator/co-star Barret O’Brien, the six-episode series depicts the falling out between two former best friends, Pete (Duplass) and Carroll (O’Brien) and the night that kicked it off, told through black and white footage of...

Exclusive: Marriage Story filmmaker Noah Baumbach has set his next project, but it’s not for the screen.
We understand the writer-director is working on his first book, a memoir, which is currently untitled, and has been snapped up in what we hear was a highly competitive auction.
Knopf has taken North American rights. Jordan Pavlin, Knopf SVP and Editor-in-Chief acquired the book from Byrd Leavall and Albert Lee at United Talent Agency. Knopf will publish the book in hardcover, e-book, and in audio by Penguin Random House. UK Commonwealth rights were sold by Sophie Lambert of C&w on behalf of Byrd Leavell and Albert Lee, and acquired, at auction, by Jocasta Hamilton Publisher at John Murray.
Specific details about the book are being kept under wraps, but we understand the work will, in some way, chart the Barbie co-scribe’s life and career through key experiences and his relationship with cinema.

With this year’s selection, the Berlinale seems to be creating space in the festival calendar, between Sundance and SXSW, for a particular type of American indie: the melancholy, slight, intensely personal and hence rather divisive kind, in which vaguely famous actors—usually the comedic kind—play downbeat iterations of their more familiar selves. It may not be a coincidence that Noah Baumbach’s Greenberg debuted here rather than home turf in 2010, but Dustin Guy Defa’s The Adults, which premiered in the festival’s Encounters strand, makes Baumbach’s problem child seem positively commercial by comparison. Fortunately for all involved, Universal have already picked it up; this is definitely not the type of movie to thrive in today’s marketplace.

Noah Baumbach’s extremely wild looking adaptation of Don DeLillo’s (arguably un-adaptable) classic White Noise will include the first new bit of music from LCD Soundsystem in five years, Variety reports.
All that’s known about the song at the moment is that it’s called “New Body Rhumba” and that it will be released later this year. How exactly it will fit into the film — which stars Adam Driver, Greta Gerwig, Don Cheadle, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Andre 3000 — remains a mystery. (Also, we hope the Airborne Toxic Event,...

The first teaser for Noah Baumbach’s latest, White Noise, has arrived…and it’s an intense one.
The trailer, which debuted today courtesy of Netflix, teases martial issues, impending dread and an “airborne toxic event.”
Official plot synopsis: “At once hilarious and horrifying, lyrical and absurd, ordinary and apocalyptic, White Noise dramatizes a contemporary American family’s attempts to deal with the mundane conflicts of everyday life while grappling with the universal mysteries of love, death, and the possibility of happiness in an uncertain world.”
The cast of Noah Baumbach’s White Noise includes Adam Driver, Greta Gerwig, Raffey Cassidy, André “3000” Benjamin, and Don Cheadle. Baumbach previously directed Driver in Marriage Story. He has also collaborated with Gerwig–his partner–on scripts for 2012’s Frances Ha and and 2015’s Mistress America, in addition to her co-starring in Greenberg, with a co-story by credit by Baumbach’s then-wife Jennifer Jason Leigh.

Exclusive: Rhys Ifans (Spider-Man: No Way Home) has signed on to star alongside Annette Bening and Jodie Foster in the Netflix film Nyad, which marks the narrative directorial debut of Oscar, BAFTA and Emmy winners Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin.
Pic is based on Diana Nyad’s bestselling autobiography Find A Way. It follows the remarkable true story of the marathon swimmer, who, at the age of 64, became the first person to complete the “Everest of swims”—executing a 53-hour, 110-mile swim from Cuba to Florida, through dangerous open ocean, without a shark cage.
Ifans is playing John Bartlett, the Florida-based boat designer and captain of the catamaran that accompanied Diana as she swam. Bartlett strategically and meticulously planned and navigated Nyad’s swim though the Florida Straits, keenly aware of the impact of weather and ocean currents on her journey.

Greta Gerwig’s next directorial effort is confirmed to be the Warner Bros. comedy tentpole “Barbie,” starring Margot Robbie as the world-famous Mattel doll. Robbie let it slip in an interview with British Vogue this month that the “Little Women” and “Lady Bird” helmer would be in the director’s chair for “Barbie.” Variety confirmed the news.
“[With ‘Barbie’] comes a lot of exciting ways to attack it,” Robbie told the publication. “People generally hear ‘Barbie’ and think, ‘I know what that movie is going to be,’ and then they hear that Greta Gerwig is writing and directing it, and they’re like, ’Oh, well, maybe I don’t…’”
Gerwig’s involvement with “Barbie” has dated back to summer 2019, when it was revealed that she would be writing the script for the Robbie-starring movie along with frequent collaborator Noah Baumbach. Gerwig and Baumbach co-wrote “Frances Ha” and “Mistress America,” both of which starred Gerwig.

One night in 1971, J.D. Souther stopped by a small club on Melrose Avenue at the urging of David Geffen. “I was just complaining about how stupid most pop artists are and how most songwriting doesn’t really get much beneath the surface,” Souther, who co-wrote several of the Eagles’ biggest hits, recalls with a laugh. “And he said, ‘Go see this girl I just signed, Judee Sill.’”
Souther found a seat in the crowd, and placed his eyes on a 27-year-old musician with long honey-blond hair and round wire-rim eyeglasses holding an acoustic guitar.

Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way and In Good Company Films are developing the utopian series “Island,” based on Aldous Huxley’s novel “Island.”
Huxley’s final book, published in 1962, follows a cynical journalist shipwrecked on the fictional utopian island of Pala in the Indian Ocean. Originally tasked with exploiting Pala’s natural resources, he uncovers an independently developed society and embraces the people, their culture and traditions — including psychedelic adventures and alternative social structures. His experience alters the course of his mission.
Huxlery wrote “Island” as the utopian counterpoint to his most famous work, the 1932 dystopian novel, “Brave New World.” “Island” explores the themes of freedom and the power of human potential. Huxley died of cancer in 1963.
Davisson and DiCaprio will executive produce for Appian Way along with George DiCaprio and Roee Sharon. Andrew Alter and Jason Whitmore will executive produce for Igc Films.

“Marriage Story” opens with spouses Nicole (Scarlett Johansson) and Charlie (Adam Driver) each reciting a list of everything they love and admire about each other. It’s almost unbearably adorable, so much so that writer-director Noah Baumbach immediately pulls out the rug: These lists are an exercise assigned by a counselor who’s seeing the couple through their divorce.
Over the course of this poignant, hilarious, heartbreaking saga, Baumbach performs an incisive autopsy on this couple. As their breakup brings out the best and worst of them, we will learn why they worked so well together and why they needed to separate from each other; if there’s a plot or traditional dramatic tension here, it’s over whether or not these two can remain amicable enough to stay close to each other and to be effective parents to their son, Henry.

One of the great mysteries of the 2019 awards season has been, “What does Jennifer Jason Leigh think of ‘Marriage Story'”? The actress had a high-profile public split with the film’s writer-director Noah Baumbach dating back to 2010, and his new movie partially draws on that separation to tell the story of a couple (Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson) falling apart. Baumbach and Leigh’s divorce was finalized in 2013.
According to Baumbach, Leigh is a fan of the movie, which agonizingly details how warring professional ambitions can destroy a partnership. There’s also the challenge of raising a small child and how it has killed any feelings of romantic love between the two.
“I showed her the movie a little bit ago,” Baumbach told WSJ magazine, also adding that Leigh read the script. “She likes it a lot…I think the first time I showed it to her, she watched it...

Had “Godless” been a more traditional western, Merritt Wever may not have been “attracted to it, and more likely, there probably wouldn’t have been a part in it for me.” Yet this Netflix limited series is unique in its genre for having so many strong roles for actresses. Written and directed by Scott Frank, the show centers on the town of Labelle, New Mexico, which is inhabited almost entirely by women after a mining accident wipes out a majority of the male population. Their world is further upended by the arrival of a wounded man (Jack O’Connell) evading a murderous outlaw (Jeff Daniels). When Wever read the script she felt she “had to do it.” Watch our exclusive video interview with Wever above.

Chicago – One of the most fulfilled movies of 2017 was the sublime “Lady Bird,” the major film debut of actor Greta Gerwig. Nimbly shooting her own script, the achingly honest story about a teenager (portrayed essentially by Saiorse Ronan) going through her Senior Year of high school in Sacramento, California, was a breakout film of the year, and was nominated for Best Picture, as well as Best Actress for Ronan, Best Supporting Actress for Laurie Metcalfe (as the Ronan character’s mother) and Best Original Screenplay/Best Director for Greta Gerwig.
Ms. Gerwig was born and raised in Sacramento, but has insisted that Lady Bird is an imaginary character, not an autobiography. After graduation from Barnard College, she intended to be a playwright, but scored roles in a couple of early “Mumblecore” indie films, Joe Swanberg’s “Lol” and Jay & Mark Duplass’ “Baghead.” Her first directorial film was a collaboration with Swanberg,...

Greta Gerwig has a story about the moment she knew she would become a director. Shortly after she starred in and co-wrote “Frances Ha” with Noah Baumbach, she met “Orlando” director Sally Potter at a party. Gerwig cornered Potter, to pick her brain.
“I do that with people I admire,” Gerwig said. “I was writing a lot. I was asking her about how she does what she does. Does she do it first thing in the morning in longhand, or many computer drafts? I was being nerdy and needy, and she was answering and being very kind.
“Then she grabbed me by the arm and looked me in the eyes and asked me, ‘What do you really want to ask me about?’ My blood ran cold. ‘You really want to ask me about directing.’
‘How do you know that?’
‘I’m part gypsy and it’s written all over you!

“Woodshock” begins with death, as Theresa (Kirsten Dunst), a medical marijuana dispensary employee, provides her terminally ill mother (Susan Traylor, “Greenberg”) with a dignified end by spiking some weed with a toxic, unnamed liquid substance. This sequence is juxtaposed with shots of Theresa in the nearby woods, physically tiny and powerless as she wanders among living, old growth redwoods and their devastated, blunt stumps. (The film was shot in Northern California’s Humboldt County.) A powerful opening, it’s reminiscent of “Wanda,” Barbara Loden’s 1970 independent classic that begins with a miserable housewife wandering through a decimated, coal-blackened landscape in Pennsylvania and.
