Oddball porn mystery/romance
lor_16 June 2020
Something went haywire with this Asia Carrera vehicle for Metro, which I've added to the database two decades after release.

Attributed to unknown writer/director "Jamie Kovak", it relies throughout on voice-over narration by lead Steve Drake, so much so that one might infer production problems (e.g., missing scenes) needing this paper-overing technique.

He's a private eye named Easy, hardly Walter Mosley's famous Easy Rawlins, working on a missing persons case, while neglecting his beautiful wife Asia Carrera. Movie veers back and forth from Asia's story, that includes footage of her ex Chris Cannon sailing on his yacht, to Drake's ongoing investigation. Neither portion of the movie becomes interesting, as the slow-paced video plods along between XXX scenes.

Most of the characters are severely underwritten, including Asia as Lani, Cheyenne as the missing man's daughter and busty Tabitha Stevens as a mysterious neighbor of Drake's who becomes involved in the suspense. Solution of the mystery is quite unsatisfactory, with a deus ex machina character (an attorney played by Eric Edwards in a NonSex cameo) merely announcing what happened in conversation to Drake.

Also unsatisfactory is a contrived ending aimed at sentimental romance. It's a shame, since this feature has decent production values and tries for something more than just gonzo content.
