, , , viewers when it was initially broadcast during the 1960 season that the Popeye show creators had to create a backstory for their POPEYE REVERE characters a few weeks later. That latter picture is framed by showing Popeye reading a book to his toddler son Sweet Pea, and describing the title personage as one of their ancestors. No such explanations are provided at any time within THE GLAD GLADIATOR. Popeye simply shows up in Rome sporting his ubiquitous sailor suit in "800 BC." Nor is it explained why everyone is speaking fluently in the 1900's version of American, or IF they're to be imagined palavering in Latin, why is Popeye in the conversational loop?
