A native American short bow is not capable of shooting an arrow clean through the chest of a human, especially at dozens of yards away. A modern crossbow shooting sharpened steel broad head arrows is barely able to pass through a human chest, and a modern crossbow is orders of magnitude more powerful that a short bow from the early 19th century.
In a later scene the same bow is shown accurately embedding the arrow in the back of a character and not passing through the body.

When the sniper is killing Running Hawk, at a distance (the killers were using a rifle scope and a telescope to see him), the rifle barrel was not elevated and that rifle would not shoot flat for any distance.
