Maria Bello and Frank Grillo star in this first trailer for Demonic. Produced by James Wan (The Conjuring) and directed by Will Canon (Brotherhood), the clip shows several ghost hunters and a haunted home. They are attacked and some do not escape this cursed home. Full of terror, the first trailer for the film is hosted here. As well, Demonic also stars Cody Horn, Dustin Milligan and Megan Risk. This horror title will be released later in 2015. The trail to the truth is littered with more bodies and few will exit this haunted home. The film uses multiple shooting styles. Partly shot via found footage, the director also utilized conventional shooting styles. Fans of film can preview Demonic below. Release Date: 2015. Director: Will Canon.

“There are a lot of theories about how to open these gates between our world and the underworld. The trick is finding them. Everybody join hands.” Ghost hunters want to hear from the dead, but what if a haunted house responded very violently? James Wan, who scared audiences with "The Conjuring," "Insidious" and "Saw" franchises, is getting "Demonic." Wan is producing the film starring Maria Bello ("A History of Violence," "Third Person") and Frank Grillo ("The Purge: Anarchy"). Dimension Films will release it this winter. Will Canon ("Brotherhood") will direct, with Lee Clay ("Beautiful Boy") co-producing. "Demonic" follows Detective Mark Lewis (Grillo) and psychologist Dr. Elizabeth Klein (Bello) as they interview a survivor of a mysterious massacre where several amateur ghost-hunters died. What really happened? "James Wan is the new master of terror and we are thrilled to be releasing his film this December," said Dimension Films' Erik Lomis in a press release. Wan recently wrapped on the beleaguered "Fast and Furious 7," which will hit screens in 2015. "Demonic" will be in theaters December 12.

This December is going to be so jam-packed with awards contenders that us critics will probably have trouble finding breathing room. Luckily, there are still a few titles outside of the Oscar crowd that are aiming a little lower. One such flick appears to be Demonic, the horror title that Dimension Films has just slotted for release on December 12th.
There’s been little to no advance buzz about this frightener, and that’s surprising when one considers the talent involved. Based on an original idea by James Wan, the horror helmer behind Saw and Insidious, Demonic stars two-time Golden Globe nominee Maria Bello and The Purge: Anarchy lead Frank Grillo (pictured above). Will Canon (Brotherhood) is sitting behind the camera.

(Cbr) Fox and Hutch Parker Entertainment are moving ahead sight unseen with a new project called "Invisible". Deadline reports the pitch comes from Dan Blank, a special effects expert who’s worked on everything from "Smallville" and "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" to "Avatar" and "Watchmen". Blank also directed the sushi chefs vs. giant sea creatures short "Monster Roll". No details about "Invisible" were given, aside from that it’s similar to "Chronicle". "Brotherhood" and "Demonic" writer Doug Simon has been tapped to pen the screenplay. Hutch Parker previously produced "The Wolverine", is currently finishing up "X-Men: Days of Future Past" and will soon move on to the "Fantastic Four" reboot.

After handling visual effects for such blockbusters as Watchmen, Avatar and Terminator: Salvation, Dan Blank is aiming to showcase his directing chops in Invisible, a sci-fi feature that he just successfully pitched to Fox.
The story is still under wraps, but Invisible has been described as “following in the vein of superhero sci-fi thriller Chronicle.” Given that Chronicle was an exciting breath of fresh air for both the superhero and found-footage genres, it’s not hard to start getting excited for Invisible.
One aspect of this project that’s especially promising is the fact that Doug Simon, the writer behind SXSW Audience Award winner Brotherhood and a 2013 Black List script called Burn Site, is attached to pen the screenplay, from Blank’s idea.
If Blank is signed to direct, as seems likely, it won’t be his first time getting behind the camera for an idea he created. In 2012, he directed Monster Roll,...

We’ve been talking about James Wan’s House of Horror since early 2011, but the movie has finished filming and is now titled Demonic. Produced by James Wan, Demonic was directed by Will Canon (Brotherhood) and filmed in Baton Rouge earlier this year. The script was written by Max La Bella and is based on an original idea from James Wan:
“The film centers on the aftermath of a horrific massacre: five college students, brutally murdered inside a decrepit, abandoned home. Fresh on the scene, detective Mark Lewis and the police department’s psychologist, Dr. Elizabeth Klein, question one of the few survivors who explains they were amateur ghost-hunters, seeking out paranormal phenomenon at the abandoned house, believed to be haunted. But what started out as a harmless activity turned into something truly terrifying, and the suspect claims the responsibility doesn’t lie with any of the inhabitants, but with the house itself.

James Wan briefly looked like he could be a one-hit wonder after his phenomenal franchise-launching success with “Saw.” His directorial follow-ups to the horror sensation failed to connect like his first big hit had…but then he went and made “Insidious.” Now with two big hits on his resume, the future looks a heck of a lot brighter for Wan, with 2013 set to see the release of two more anticipated horror flicks in the form of “Insidious Chapter 2” (which has the original cast returning and picks up where the first movie left off) and “The Conjuring” (also starring Patrick Wilson, this time accompanied by Vera Farmiga). He’s also now a big enough name in the genre that he can start presenting films in the same way that Eli Roth does, and Maria Bello and Frank Grillo have both signed up to star in an as yet untitled "James Wan Presents" thriller.

Maria Bello has been cast as the female lead in James Wan's new untitled thriller that's set up over at Dimension Films. Wan, who started the Saw franchise and directed Insidious is producing the film, and Will Canon is set to direct it. Canon has made a handful of short films and a feature length film called Brotherhood which I've never seen.
The story centers on a "detective and a police psychologist (Bello) who are investigating the massacre of five college kids in a decrepit home and must deal with a suspect, a survivor of the killing, who explains the group [were] amateur ghost-hunters and that it was the house that is to blame."
It's not specified in the report at THR, but I believe this is Wan's film House of Horrors, which was announced last year. Canon is the third director to be attached to the project. It sounds like a cool horror movie,...

Actress Maria Bello has signed on to star in the upcoming, untitled James Wan thriller. One can only hope it's not the MacGyver movie. (I know, it's not.)
Wan is producing the thriller, directed by Will Canon (Brotherhood) and written by Max La Bella (Children's Hospital) based off an idea from Wan.
In the haunted house gone bad story (really, haunted houses very rarely end up good) Bello plays a police psychologist who arrives at the murder scene of five college students whose night ghost hunting in an old house goes horribly, horribly wrong. The lone survivor says the house itself is responsible for the bloodbath. Sounds reasonable to me.
Bello's long list of credits include roles in A History of Violence, Assault on Precinct 13, and Downloading Nancy. Production is set to begin in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in January. ...

We’ve been periodically posting updates on James Wan’s House of Horror since early 2011, but it looks like the project is ready to move forward (possibly with a new title). It was revealed that Maria Bello was circling the lead role in the film this April, but Dimension Films has just announced that she has officially been cast. We also have confirmation on the director, a shooting date, and an updated synopsis:
“Dimension Films announced today that Golden Globe nominated Maria Bello (A History Of Violence, The Cooler) has been cast as the lead female in The Untitled ‘James Wan Presents’ Thriller. James Wan, who co-created the highly successful Saw and Insidious franchises, will produce the film along with Lee Clay (Beautiful Boy). Wan most recently directed The Conjuring, which New Line will release next summer. Will Canon (Brotherhood) is set to direct. Max La Bella penned the script...

Golden Globe nominee Maria Bello is joining the untitled "James Wan Presents" thriller. After five ghost-hunting college students are massacred in an abandoned home, detective Mark Lewis (to be cast) and police psychologist, Dr. Elizabeth Klein (Bello), question the survivors who claim that the house is haunted and that their murdered friends were victims of a supernatural force. Wan, who co-created the "Saw" franchise and also directed "Insidious," will produce the new film along with Lee Clay. Will Canon ("Brotherhood") is set to direct from a script by Max La Bella. Clay also produced 2010's Beautiful Boy," which starred Bello...

After the release of Insidious, we were excited to see what James Wan would produce under his deal with Icon Entertainment. Announced last year, the plan is for Wan to produce 8 genre films over the next four years. The first project is titled House of Horror and it looks like a new director is set to take over the film.
Javier Gutierrez was originally planned to direct and then it was announced that Xavier Gens (Hitman, The Divide) was brought in. Now, Will Canon (Brotherhood) is in talks to helm the project, according to Bloody Disgusting. Previously announced star Maria Bello is still attached to the project and we hope to see more casting announcements in the near future.
As reported earlier, House of Horror is based on an original story from James Wan about a house that may be a gateway to hell:
“The Devil made me do it.

Lou Taylor Pucci has always been one of those actors that floats just under the radar. While the young actor has made some solid films (Thumbsucker, Brotherhood, The Music Never Stopped), he's never really gotten his big break. Well, that day has arrived. Variety reports that Lou Taylor Pucci is now in talks to play a role in the Sam Raimi/Bruce Campbell-produced remake of The Evil Dead. Just last week it was announced that Suburgatory's Jane Levy and Shiloh Fernandez will also star in the movie. Like the original film, the story follows a group of young adults to a cabin in the woods where they accidentally release an ancient evil after reading out of the Book of the Dead. Pucci will play Eric (this movie is speaking to me), a character described as "an intense academic whose intellectual curiosity gets his group of friends into trouble.

Carnage – international trailer review
Directed by: Roman Polanski
Starring: Jodie Foster, John C. Reilly, Christoph Waltz, Kate Winslet
Rating: Not Yet Rated
Release Date: December 16, 2011
Trailer Score: 9/10
Thoughts by Tsr: There’s reason for excitement any time a film from a personal favorite filmmaker is coming out. When that film boasts a cast of four Oscar nominees, and that filmmaker is Roman Polanski (Repulsion is one of my favorite films), it’s cause for celebration. After a phenomenal poster released not long ago, the excellent marketing continues with this international trailer for Carnage.
Even with the amazing wealth of talent in front of the camera, the first thing that strikes me about this trailer is the tone. It looks hilarious. The characters start off cordial enough, but once the drinks start coming the prim and proper sheen of the quartet quickly vanishes. Based on the source material and dialogue in this trailer,...

"With his Bud Cort haircut and morbid sensibility, Oliver Tate (Craig Roberts) is too smart for Swansea, Wales, an industrial city mired in some seriously mid-80s Thatcherite doldrums," begins Vadim Rizov at GreenCine Daily. "The trouble with Oliver is that he knows he's clever, which could justify anything: surreptitiously monitoring his parents' sex life, taunting an overweight girl to make local cutie Jordana (Yasmin Paige) notice him as a real livewire, or trying to trash the house of downhill neighbor Graham Purvis (Paddy Considine) who may be having an affair with mom (Sally Hawkins). Fortunately, Submarine, Richard Ayoade's feature debut, is aware of Oliver's self-justifying nature and the ways it could warp him…. Acutely aware of the long tradition of films about disaffected young men coming to terms with themselves, Ayoade doesn't duck the precedent: instead, like Oliver…, he nods to seemingly every single precursor. There's a 400 Blows-quoting dash across the beach,...

"Beautiful Boy" is tough in every sense of the term. A film that deals with the aftermath of a school shooting from the perspective of the parents who raised the assailant, it's the type of subject matter that would rather be left unexplored by most and doesn't go out of its way to suggest you sympathize with Kate and Bill (Maria Bello and Michael Sheen), a couple in the suburbs who already sleep in separate rooms after their son Sammy (Kyle Gallner) has left for college.
Keeping up the charade of a connected family has become an afterthought for both parents and son -- Sammy barely registers interest when Kate calls to suggest they take a vacation together to Miami after school finishes up and Bill takes his dinner alone in the afternoon after telling Kate, "I think you're putting a lot of pressure on one vacation." As it turns out,...

Adapting short films into features is nothing new, but lately it's seeming more and more common for a short to be produced intentionally as a kind of practice run for a later long-form version. Filmmaker Will Canon may not have completely planned for his award-winning Nyu film, "Roslyn," to serve as the opening to an extended story, but he does admit to originally having had more ideas he couldn't fit into only eight minutes. So, after making a few more shorts over the last decade, he delivered "Brotherhood," which is not only nearly ten times longer; it's also ten times…...

We've seen the "botched heist" scenario so many times now that we can anticipate nearly every twist and turn before it arrives. And no question about it, Will Canon's Brotherhood is twist-happy, but it pays a good amount of attention to the characters, creating a hothouse atmosphere where we're pulling for the good guys to escape unharmed.Of course, calling anyone in the movie "good" may stretch the definition of the term. Even Mike (Arlen Escarpeta, from the Friday the 13th remake), the most sympathetic, does questionable things. He's a convenience store clerk who gets caught up in a crazy fraternity initiation prank, ending up as the lone African-American character in a sea of young white men. Adding racial tension to the mix turns up the...

*full disclosure: a DVD screener of this film was provided by Phase 4 Films.
Director: Will Canon.
Writers: Will Canon and Douglas Simon.
Brotherhood is director Will Canon's first film and this feature is based on his earlier short film, "Roslyn." Due to release on DVD May 17th, Brotherhood is a continuously tense time, spent with one young man's pledge to a local fraternity. The night does not go as planned and instead of putting shrinkwrap under toilet seats, there are simulated convenience store hold-ups. Soon, central character and new pledge Adam (Trevor Morgan) is standing up to fraternity leader Frank (Jon Foster), in what turns out to be a test of right and wrong. Unbelievably panned by critics, this indie thriller is an exciting time spent in a dramatization of fraternity life.
Adam, Kevin and a couple of other young men are taken out into the dark night around the City of Hamilton.

Rating: PG-13
Release Date: May 20, 2011
Trailer Score: 5/10
My Thoughts: The story is promisingly weird, a depressed man finds a new lease on life by interacting with the world through a hand puppet. It sounds like a Charlie Kaufman script. Jodie Foster’s directing and acting, which sounds like an odd fit, but could work. But it stars Mel Gibson, and that gives me pause. I still think he’s a massive tool after all the tabloid incidents and don’t want to give my money to a project he’s involved in. Beyond my own prejudice, it looks kind of… sad. I shouldn’t be surprised, Gibson’s character is supposed to be depressed after all. But the premise sounds more lighthearted and fun than what I’m seeing in this trailer. I expected Gibson to...

My Thoughts: Morgan Spurlock has always been one of those documentarians that I want to like more than I actually do, but it seems like he may have finally found a product worth selling. Pun absolutely intended.
The idea of a movie about product placement paid for by sponsors is an intriguing one. I mean, you can’t help but wonder how the corporations that have thrown their money into this feel about the portrayal of the industry.
My only beef with the movie is the idea that they keep suggesting people are unaware of advertising. Sure, there’s a fair share of rather subliminal advertising and I certainly hope that this documentary will go more into the “hidden” aspects of advertising, but there’s a moment or two where they...

We've all seen the stereotypical "fraternity movie," complete with raunchiness, college boy antics, hazing, boozing, and more.
In the new film "Brotherhood," which won the audience award at last year's SXSW film festival, and is currently in select theaters and available on-demand, the intense and unpredictable thriller tackles those issues of hazing and group psychology head-on. Jon Foster, Trevor Morgan, Arlen Escarpeta and Lou Taylor Pucci star.
"[This film] is about a lot of things," Foster told MTV News when asked to summarize "Brotherhood." "But the quickest and fastest way is, a fraternity that has gone really wrong. You know? On another level there’s kind of an exposure of group mentality."
Despite the fact that his character, fraternity president Frank, chooses to try and cover up a life-threatening incident, Foster said he believes Frank's initial actions were justified.
"I really believe that Frank in his own mind is justified," he said.

I have this spectacular tradition of missing the must-see movie every year at SXSW. Despite the adulations of the Carlson Kids, I missed out on The Hurt Locker. And last year, it came down to a flip of a coin with me choosing against Will Canon's feature debut Brotherhood. It ended up winning the narrative feature audience award. Brotherhood is like the out of control antics of If You Give A Mouse A Cookie, where a psychotic fraternity prank continues to escalate to ridiculous ends when the entire thing could simply have been avoided if the smart and responsible thing had been done. It's a shouty movie full of angry aggro behavior funneled through alcohol consumption and that particularl swinging dick mentality of most stereotypical fraternities. It addresses the insanity and brutality of hazing while acknowledging the unflinching brotherhood of the fraternities. Unquestionably, the fraternity brothers come off like one part raving lunatics,...

In limited release this Friday, the thriller Brotherhood kicks off with what's usually a pretty ordinary thing: a fraternity hazing ritual. To prove their loyalty to the Sigma Zeta Chi fraternity, new pledges Adam (Trevor Morgan) and Kevin (Lou Taylor Pucci) are asked to hold up a convenience store, at gunpoint, to bring back exactly $19.10. But because Brotherhood is a thriller, you just know it's not going to be that easy. We're premiering an exclusive new clip from the movie that shows exactly how complicated things can get when you walk into a convenience store with a gun, whether or not it's actually got bullets in it. Check out the clip below, from the movie that our Eric Eisenberg called in his review "a solid first-feature effort" from director Will Canon. For the third and final screening of "Brotherhood" at SXSW last year, the young woman who had gotten in line two-and-a-half hours ahead of time confided in me that she had actually attended the previous two screenings and needed to see it again. Her reasoning that she might not ever see it again was understandable, given the crapshoot of indie film distribution and because "Brotherhood" isn't exactly for those with a weak stomach. However, the film would also be a rare thing to behold, even if it weren't for limited screenings since director Will Canon's first feature is the kind of ridiculously fun, down and dirty thriller that few filmmakers are willing to stretch the limits of credibility or good taste to make or are skilled enough to pull off as energetically or confidently as this straightforward nailbiter about a fraternity hazing ritual that spirals out of control.

Stuff goes wrong in Brotherhood. Shit gets real, bottoms drop out, worse comes to worst and then some. Crowded with incident and untroubled by character, the film is an escalation machine that runs on clichéd coincidence and depends on everyone involved making the stupidest possible choices in any given situation. The machine gives off synthetic adrenaline as exhaust; trapped within the frame, its toxic cloud compounds the stupidity already on ample display. Director Will Canon has succeeded chiefly in creating a thriving micro economy inside of his very trying frat-house disaster flick, and dumbness is its Gdp.
