Séries+, a Quebecker cable network, announced that it picked up Malenfant, its first historical miniseries ever. Now that the show's casting is complete, it will be in production from May 3 to June 14.
While Luc Picard (Babine) will portray the late businessman Raymond Malenfant (1930-), Julie McClemens (Le banquet) will play his wife Colette and François Chénier (Fortier) will play their son.
The story, which was penned by Claude Paquette (Willie), is centred on Raymond Malenfant. Because of his belief in his skills, Malenfant will get from nothing to everything and will build a vast motel empire in Quebec. Besides, during his life, Malenfant will also be an important investor. However, his business will be bankrupt and the provincial government of Quebec will press charges of fraud against him in the 1990s. Besides, as if it wasn't enough, his son, Alain, is apparently hanging out with criminals.

This year, Polytechnique dominated the Genie Awards and even took the award for Best Motion Picture. However, the presentation of the award on TV and on webcast was too short. Besides, it wasn't a live presentation and not all the awards were shows on TV/webcast. Second Besides: When will a TV network (and not some cable network that few Canadians have) broadcast the Genie Awards? Anyway, without further ado, here's the presentation of the winners.

It's one of those years where the great Atom Egoyan's contribution to cinema is totally insignificant (Adoration received 2 noms) and where Denis Villeneuve's Polytechnique, in my books the best Canadian film of the year, grabbed the high count total of eleven nominations for the 30th Genie Awards. - It's one of those years where the great Atom Egoyan's contribution to cinema is totally insignificant (Adoration received 2 noms) and where Denis Villeneuve's Polytechnique, in my books the best Canadian film of the year, grabbed the high count total of eleven nominations for the 30th Genie Awards. What is somewhat odd is how Canada's most internationally celebrated film in I Killed My Mother (J'ai tue ma mere) from Xavier Dolan receive not one single vote, a crime when you consider the textured writing, fluid cinematography and the brilliant performance from Anne Dorval - who plays the neurotic mother...

Unlike what we believe, the Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois isn't just a film festival. It's also an opportunity to see the pilot of upcoming TV series before everybody. In fact, on Friday, February 26, the pilot of Musée Eden will be presented in the auditorium of the Grande bibliothèque at 7 Pm.
This upcoming TV series from Radio-Canada opens with the brutal murder of a man, Félix Courval, in the Montreal of the 1910s. He has two nieces - played by Laurence Leboeuf (Durham County) and Mariloup Wolfe (Ramdam) - who lives in St-Boniface, Manitoba. After Courval's death, the two women come to Montreal, the city where he lived, in order to know the content of his will. The oldest of the two women will inherit from a few buildings and above all, a museum where crime scenes are reproduced (even with the real blood of the victims).
Moreover, as they have to handle the museum,...
