Sweet entry in the series looks at loneliness and displacement with a comic twist.
Mary Wickes guest stars as an old friend of Denver Pyle's Buck who drops in when Doris and housekeeper Juanita are out of town and Buck and the boys have turned the house into a disaster area. Having recently been decommissioned Mary's Emma Flood takes over and soon has the household running like a tight ship, perhaps too tight since everyone is chafing under her tight rein. Before Buck gets a chance to talk to her about it she reveals that she's more or less alone in the world and glad at the chance to be useful. It's at this point that Doris returns home and while delighted at the state of the house understands the problem and happily comes up with a solution!
It's all pretty standard sitcom stuff but the subtle examination of the need to feel needed adds an extra layer to the show aided by the high quality of the cast, in particular the always wonderful Mary Wickes.
