They are not Padma Lakshmi nor are they Noel and Sandy. If they could bring any of the charisma, style or charm to that these folks bring to Top Chef or The Great British Baking Show I could tolerate them. They are talking heads with no charm and add nothing to this show. Without the hosts this show could develop a real following.

Great season!

Just watched this (first) season and enjoyed it immensely. Great cast and contestants. Not overly produced. Minimal drama. Just a feel-good chronicle of amazing pit masters doing what they do best. I highly recommend this show (at least the first season) and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
It's... okay.

I like the premise. The execution is okay, but not excellent. First, upon a binge watch you'll realize the contestants and judges/presenters never change clothes. To me, that means these poor people got run ragged on an impossible schedule. Luckily, the judging was fair and the final 2 were as deserving as anyone else. The challenges were interesting, if not unique, and it showed the range off skills required to cook BBQ at that level.
Rasheed was awesome the Gentleman BBQ Master

Rasheed had me drawn to his cooking, his innovative style and was just a true gentleman and good guy! I loved rooting for him and thought he was the clearly the winner. The final two ladies were great too but Rasheed was consistently good from day 1.
I agree with the other reviews that Melissa Cookston was EXTREMELY ANNOYING. Her conceited ways and harsh criticism was over the top. The rough voice didn't help either.
The judging should have been by 3 or 4 judges. 2 with experience, 1 celebrity and 1 teen or young adult who just loves bbq. And sides are okay I guess, but judge just the protein bbq main course.
The plates should be tasted without knowing who cooked them initially so there is no bias in selecting a winner like Melissa does with all the women. They automatically judged the next meal on how they did the previous cooks. Each competition plate should be judged without that history.
I loved the show because I loved to BBQ! I would have loved to have gotten an in depth look at the pits used. I love my Traeger grill. Rasheed would be a good judge next season!

Great show except Melissa Cookston.

This is a really enjoyable show with some interesting challenges and entertaining, talented contestants. I think the wing person won the whole thing but that's only my opinion. Judge Melissa Cookston is unbearable though feels biased towards females, talks over the over judge and is so big headed and snooty considering she herself is a competitor. I really enjoyed the show but would be happy to see some minor tweaks or there's a second season.
Good show except for that Mellissa cooker lady

Great show and Great food. The best cooking competition show I've seen in a long time. The camaraderie that the cast and contestants have really show the heart behind this show. Wish we got more from the hosts but it's still just the first season. If you love food and good people then you will most likely love this show.
Can't wait for more!!
Bang Average - Melissa Ruins it

This programme is a great concept, love the environment and some of the challenges.
The challenges however are so unfairly distributed across the participants. The show wants people to fail and not succeed. Poorly executed show.
Melissa Is the main judge and she is totally insufferable. Constantly tells us how amazing she is and how terrible the participants are. No encouragement or support at all!

Do they not change clothes?

OK I I am glad that everyone is noticing the same thing. after like the fourth episode they're all wearing the same clothes. From the judges to the competitors. So they're cooking and sweating all day and then have to go put the same clothes back on? this is clearly done over a period of weeks. they're smoking food, barbecuing, so they're outside all day and damn near every challenge is five hours long. So why are they wearing the same clothes every day?
I like the show don't get me wrong I love cooking shows. But are they not allowed to wear different clothes?
The food is just a bonus

Yes, this is a BBQ contest show stretched out over 8 days. However, I found it to be much more than that. In these contestants we saw class, quality of character, respect, admiration, and teamwork. This is a group of people who reminded me if what Americans used to be - good people. These folks truly rejoiced in each others success and shed tears at failures and departures. Watch this for the quality people, getting hungry is just a bonus.

Great competition show!

The cast and contestants make this show a real pleasure to watch. There is just enough angst in the competition to spice things up without there being too much drama. The contestants obviously like each other and help each other out which must be unique in a contest. I like all them and don't want any of them to go home! Great show!

I enjoyed the show besides the obviously flaws of same clothes throughout the entire season and some obvious scripted moments, but all in all entertaining. However they let the 2 coolest black guys that would've carried the show with entertainment off first like what

A New Perspective on Barbecue

Warning: Spoilers
Program is "delicious". Is there any way to get copies of the contestants' recipes? Also, several have asked...but no answers. Eight days in the same clothes? Can't believe that. I'm lucky if I don't need a change after cooking one full dinner!
Sorry to say the 2 co-hosts are annoying at best. They add nothing. DUH! W Why are they there?
Rasheed was a first class participant. He should have won! Does the winner really get only $2,500?
Whre do I find answers to mine and others' questions.
Thanks.

It's real, it's tasty! No unnecessary extra's in the show. It's all about bbq and friends, love it! Would cut one of the presenters because the man and woman don't really add so much to the show. And yeah they don't change clothes bit it doesn't bother me at all.
Good show minus the annoying Judges
tmslimjim6 October 2020
Good concept of a show reminds me a bit of British baking show but the Judges need to be replaced, They all judge on personal likes and dislikes like the sandwich episode where Melissa disliked a sandwich just because it has onions on it!! Who cares if you don't like onions it shouldn't matter. Anyway good show regardless.. maybe more focus on the food and preparation instead cutting to the judges talk half the episode.
Manufactured Drama
hawkknight88-121 December 2020
It's a barbecue competition. I'm here to look at interesting people making tasty food. I'm _not_ here to hear sob stories, or hear judges say "I don't know if she can recover from this". It's fake, and it pulls me out of my immersion. I don't know why every show needs to be reality TV now.
The judges were a little humiliating to Shotgun - and we're in episode 1 here. They called him up to taste his own food, and judge lady held up his asparagus like she was personally insulted.

The most outstanding part of the show is it's positivity and the comradery amongst all competitors. Their joy for each other moving forward and being sad for those who didn't make the cut was amazing.
What I didn't like was the hosts who were almost not present. I'd wish if a pro would host the show in the future. And I would love to see all eliminated competitors being part of the jury in the final episode.
