The vineyard
searchanddestroy-130 January 2024
Typical French rural drama, so French, and a true, authentic depiction of those remote countryside atmospheres, among peasants, villagers. It is strange but the atmosphere, despite a total different plot and topic, reminds me Henri George Clouzot's LE CORBEAU, small town - village - atmosphere where people behavior is analyzed in a so accurate and realistic way. In LE CORBEAU, it was suspicion, here, in this amazing little drama, it is greed, greed, greed. After the death of an old vineyard owner, every one in the small village wonders whom will the the heir of the vineyard. It is very simple to follow, unlike so many other countryside dramas, where complex family tragedies are galore, revenge, vengeance stories which roots are so deep and difficult to audiences to understand the details. Here, it is an amazing study of the small French villages folks.
