Diabolical mate!

The answer to, what happened to Billy Butcher when he was in hiding? Shot by Eric Kripke for the second episode of season 2, Kripke said "but it ultimately didn't end up fitting that well into the episode because it made Butcher's story a lot less mysterious and intriguing, and it slowed down the rhythm".

A spin off or an advertisement?

"The Boys" is arguably both one of the best TV series and one of the best superhero-themed story ever made. However, this short film does not bring any of the great qualities that lead me to make that statement. This five-minute piece is not more than an advertisement, than "fan service". It is well done, but does not sustain itself independently from the series. Indeed, it shows much less than part of a single episode.

Decent five-minute intermission

Warning: Spoilers
"Butcher: a Short Film" is exactly what the title says, namely a really short short film at five minutes only. This is linked to the successful series The Boys and shows us a bit of the contents that take place between seasons one and two. Very condensed of course. I cannot elaborate at all on how well it fits in there as I am not familiar with said show, but what i saw here I liked. We have several writers credite, but I kinda feel that most of those belong to the series I just mentioned. Not sure though. Not too important either. the lead is Karl Urban and I think I prefer him over Keith. At least from what I saw Urban in, which admittedly was not that much. But here (he looks a bit like a mix between Pacino and especially del Toro on the poster here on imdb), he even gets me a bit curious about the show. Also liked his different face expressions: how he is embarrassed almost or feels caught when at the restaurant or what it was early on, but also his strong expression of violence, insanity almost as he kills the man he considered a friend after the fella betrayed him. This act of violence also makes it a bit questionable to believe his words from seconds earlier that he killed nobody and that is seems to be innocent in the case of the murder of this influential woman we see on television early on. So yes, I kinda want to know what happened and I might add this show to my watchlist because why not. The rating here on imdb is pretty high as well. I think those people that are already fans of said show should watch this one as well. There seems to be a lot under the surface and they were not scared at all here and even depict a killing, which is nothing you get too often with short films linked to successful shows. But it makes obvious that they have enough good material for the show anyway to not depict these five minutes in flashbacks there. David S. Lee did a good job as well and a bit sad that otherwise right now he is also on stuff like General Hospital. Definitely better than that. Thumbs-up from me for the outcome here. Go watch it, even if you don't know the show and just like Urban as it is the case for me here.
