A concept too good to be crammed into a single episode
bsridharsankar8 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
We had Zombie Wanda vs Hulk but instead of seeing it we move to the next scene. And zombie Thanos, I mean damn you can't leave it at that point. Hope there is a follow up to this episode or something.

Fun episode

Zombies + superheroes = tons of fun. And cherry on top is the decent amount of gore.

In my culture, death is not the end. They are still with us as long as we don't not forget them.

Oh my god this hit so hard.

I love cape

Some really great moments. Let's just take a moment to acknowledge that Strange's cape is always the real MVP <3.

This episode was extremely good. The pacing was perfect. I hope they follow up the story in the next episode.

This episode can be a standalone movie and it will be a super hit!

Superheroes + Zombies + Comedy + Heartfelt emotions

This episode had everything and more. I wish someday MCU gives us a full length animated version of this.

What If has to be the best Marvel Series to date.

[7.7] Badly needing part 2
cjonesas14 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Episode 5: A very good animated episode with conflicting logic, some unneeded casualties, a Hulk who's not in control anymore (3/4 in) and a few bunch of heroes who are "depasse" by the events.

Very good development up until the void ending, badly needing a part two.

Doesn't know what it wants to be.
bodemiller-996188 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Throughout the series, the tone has been shifting more towards a serious and somber place. I expected the tonal shift to continue, but in this episode it just kinda back pedaled a bit. It feel like it wants to be serious, but at the same time, every single character throughout is cracking jokes and being the comic relief. This weird conflict of interest was just kind of distracting and annoying for me, personally.

Also, for a series where we've literally seen iron man get murdered, and we literally saw a woman get shot in the head, whenever a death happens, it is always off camera (unless it's a zombie, but that doesn't count). It just feels odd how an episode which revolves around the hero's trying not to die doesn't actually show anything that violent when the show has already proven itself to not be afraid to show death and blood.

The episode also didn't really end with any resolution. Where the doctor strange episode ended with evil strange winning, but losing everything, this episode just sort of felt like it,,, didn't actually finish. There was just so much more to this story that they didn't tell.

Overall, not unwatchable, but still very disappointing.

Death Is Not The End
robertnecula8 September 2021
I would say the most creepy episode so far and honestly this is 'What If...? Responding to these kind of crazy questions. And seeing The Avengers in this kind of state it was something actually unique. The Ending Is Promising.

It's complicated
santiiba8 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Thought this was gonna be more like the comic, but this had bad jokes and some things that are nonsense. Why didn't they kill hope before she became a zombie? She can litteraly be more dangerous than ant-man. And the ending is like they finished hurry in the middle of the episode.

Wish one day they'll make a FULL LENGTH ANIMATED FEATURE with this IDEA.
MandalBros-58 September 2021
As a zombie genre fan I was very much excited for this episode. I was thinking how will they create a Zombie origin in this universe. And what they've done here is really good and logical in MCU. Loved the humour and the open ending.

Another thing we got to know with this episode is that each episode of this series is from different universes. I thought they'll connect in the upcoming episode but it'll not.

Only thing I did not like here is the angle of Vision and Wanda. Because we've watched the same type of stories before in many zombie short films and also in The Walking Dead.

Overall LOVED IT.

Available on Disney+ Hotstar.

Another decent episode but falls short in a few areas
maxglen8 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I really love the concept of What if? Zombies!? I also think there are moments here that live up to its potential, but on the whole I can't help but feel a little disappointed. There are (expectedly) a ton of deaths in this episode and almost all of them could have felt impactful and emotional but most are ruined by the addition of a comedic one liner, it just really clashes with the darker theme and ending. Speaking of the ending, you can't just leave us with zombie Thanos! The coolest idea in the episode is negated to a cliffhanger that may never get resolved! Overall, I can't hate this episode. The animation is as always, very solid and the voice acting is also brilliant. I like the structure of the story, fitting very much into the MCU as well as the zombie sub-genre and the music was particularly good this episode. That's about it. Lots of good but a few things that could have really made it great that were unfortunately missing. Still, a decent 8/10. Thanks for reading my review!

Episode doesnt take itself seriously
skeecats10 September 2021
I cant get invested because the writers are taking each life lightly. There are no stakes and it feels lazy full of sub-par jokes. Gets a no from me.

Zombies!
DrKennyKeps8 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
When you didn't think she was badass enough, here she is: Zombie Scarlet Witch!

This was a great episode. The teamups, the jokes, Kurt finally back (MCU needs more Kurt).

Also, the ending with Zombie Thanos looks really frightening, and it will be interesting to see what happens next week.

Insanity in the MCU

What If does it again. There's been some scrappy earners so far in this series but this was a masterclass in craziness like we have never seen. I was fully engaged watching this nonstop wow festival unfold in front of my eyes. After this episode ended, I had a wet assssss. More of a wet asssss than I did watching Candyman or Demon Slayer.

Now we're talking!
miriam-seraia1 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Finally the lot thickens and my interest piques.

For the first time we ask a "What if...?" question and I like the answer. Actually, not that I love seeing my favourite heroes die, but this scenario makes sense and makes me wish for a full movie based on this question. I am so curious what happened upon their arrival in Wakanda. What would zombie Thanos do. And how would the end of this universe come about.

I 'hope' (there I go with my dad puns too, haha) to see/find out the continuation of this story sometime in the near future.

A good episode but...
Don't get me wrong, I loved this episode. Probably my favourite of the series as you can see from my 9 stars. But since the episode is only 30 minutes long, everything in crammed into it. So it's basically a new death every 2 minutes and there's a lot of scenes that could have been so much more but it just cuts before we see anything. They should have made an exception for this episode to be longer and it would have been so much better than what we got. Also the deaths should have had more impact, it's like "oh they're dead, moving on". The ending was pretty lame aswell. Honestly this episode should have been a standalone thing, they could have made it a movie or something and it would probably be much better.

MCU's comedic tone ruins a great concept based on a great comic.
Shane_Powis8 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The MCU is known for its comedy and honestly a lot of the time its fine because the films usually don't have a really dark tone. Now Marvel Zombies is known for its dark tone so its strange how this episode at points felt more comedic in parts.

The episode highlights the issues with the typical MCU formula and how it doesn't work for this type of story.

Now, I'm not saying this episode was a complete joke fest but the fact that a lot of the character deaths are followed by jokes just feels wrong especially when main characters that are close friends with the non-infected characters. For example, Hope blowing up Sharon was really cool but then its followed by a funny but also very out of place joke. Happy goes out with a joke which at least understandable since Happy is typically a comic relief character but he's still important, he deserved a better death and all of the characters did.

For the record, I'm fine with some jokes in a serious setting because it makes sense if they're used as a way for the characters to calm themselves down but they never connote that other than with Spider-Man. Spider-Man is very upbeat in this episode but his reasoning is good and I understand it.

In terms of any positives, I did like Vision feeding Wanda people as it shows how far he would go for her, similar to how far she went for him. However, this part of the episode gets ruined by Antman joking all throughout emotional moments. He felt like an excuse to have comic relief.

Finally, the whole episode felt very rushed due to the limited runtime of these What If episodes. The ending was also really rushed but at the least seeing zombie Thanos was neat. Having this be set during the Infinity War times was cool.

Overall, this episode was sadly very flawed.

This episode made me read the Marvel Zombies comics now! This episode was so good and I'm am so happy that Disney went this way. Because I was thinking Disney wouldn't allow this stuff!

I dunno about this one
diego-vera648 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I mean, it's Marvel Zombies. How hard is it to pull off? Apparently very.

The first 10 minutes are awful. They are killing their friends and cracking jokes all the while. If last week's episode could take itself more seriously, why this one couldn't?

And can I just say, MCU Spiderman is one of the worst characters in universe. He feels really fake and dishonest. Or maybe he was just really poorly written in this episode, I dunno, but he was really annoying.

Second half was good when suddenly they cared about people dying. Zombie Wanda was very cool. I feel like they could have used the zombie Avengers more. They take care of them too easily.

Awful how the ending was the most interesting thing. I think they should've smashed all of this into 10 minutes and make the ending the rest of the premise. Or just don't put it in there, it throws you off. Like someone waiting until the end of you bday party to say "Here's another surprise", and giving you a peak just before running out of the room with it.

Maybe it's my fault. I expected nothing from last week's premise and loved it, and I expected a lot from this one and didn't love it.

Also, Mark Ruffalo is a terrible voice actor.

Good
bowlingbaritone6 October 2021
I liked this episode a lot. I don't like the zombie genre at all, but this episode was great. The deaths were super gory, the action and animation was great, and it got very sad at the end. I didn't like the over abundance of jokes. This is a zombie apocalypse, not a circus! Overall, this episode was very good.

They destroyed it by themselves

It was supposed to be serious, not funny. And it was not even funny, it was an awful attempt of being funny. It felt like there was no stakes at any moment in the episode.

The "comedy" Ruined the Episode
DAR7HBALLZ9 September 2021
The constant forced "comedic" dialogue really ruined this episode for me. There are dark and even touching moments in the episode but they feel out of place thanks to the constant attempts at comedy that plague most of the episode. The overall plot was good but these writers have a serious tone problem.

Just OK
rangojalex8 September 2021
Following the incredible Dr. Strange episode, this one had little chance of improving on the previous episode as the last 3 did, but it was still an OK entry. Not a whole lot of substance in this one and everything seemed a bit forced and jarring much like the Captain Carter episode. WHAT IF definitely struggles when it tries to do too much but soars when it isn't overly ambitious in terms of the scope of the world it is trying to build in each episode. The comedy was forced and unearned in my opinion but there were still some funny moments. I think they would've been better off focusing on a few characters and making this a survival thriller rather a massive avengers comedy type plotline/feel.
