Fatal Attraction

This documentary relates the tales of four female killers, one you might have heard of. That one is Diane Downs, the American mother of three who murdered one of her offspring, and but for the skill of the doctor interviewed here, might have killed all three.

Martha Wise was a rather pathetic woman who succeeded in murdering three members of her family with arsenic, although she poisoned many more. The film-makers flit between Downs and Wise before coming to the final segment which sees a teenage girl in Australia murdered by lesbian lovers Jessica Stasinowsky and Valerie Parashumti, as foreplay, we are told.

Because of the historical nature of the Wise case, we see only reconstructions, but real live witnesses for Downs including the aforementioned doctor, a detective, and a forensic pathologist, with the usual mindless mumblings by resident psychobabbler Candice Delong. Not mentioned is her 1987 prison escape, something that beggars belief for such a dangerous individual. Thankfully, after she was recaptured she was moved to a more secure prison. Her second parole hearing was denied in 2010, and hopefully she will die in prison.
