The doll Santa brings Jennifer is of Eleanor Roostervelt, a clear reference to Eleanor Roosevelt, influential wife of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Her uncle, President Theodore Roosevelt, encountered Scrooge in the graphic novel "The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck."
This is the third episode in the series to be a Christmas-themed episode after The Impossible Summit of Mt. Neverrest! (2017) and Last Christmas! (2018).
Jennifer is the 2nd character in the DuckTales (2017) reboot to not be voiced by an adult, with Abby Ryder Fortson having been about 11 or 12 years old when she recorded her lines for the character.
The episode's title is based off Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Another connection to that story is that Jennifer is partly based off Cindy Lou, and that Santa at one point calls Scrooge a Grinch.
