The episode opens with Scrooge and the others going after the helmet of Henghis Khan, who is based off Mongolian Warrior Genghis Khan. This parallels to the episode "The Lost Crown of Genghis Khan" in the original series which was centered around Scrooge and the others partaking in a competition to find the titular crown, only then Genghis Khan was still named Genghis Khan.
As Donald and Daisy begin to kiss, the tune to "Hear my Voice" from "Louie's Eleven" can be heard in the background.
The title is a reference to the phrase "New Kids on the Block" which has also been used in various media sources as well as the name of a boy band. The title was also referenced in the episode "New Gizmo-Kids on the Block" of the original series.
Louie's golden touch is an allusion to the story of King Midas, which, like Hercules, Zeus, et al, is from Greek mythology, in addition to the titular Golden Goose from the series finale of the original DuckTales (1987).
Huey's enlarged cranium resembles Dewey's superhero identity that he took on in the Quack Pack (1996) episode "The Really Mighty Ducks".
