The epitome of the rpg genre
EuanB2124 August 2023
This is hands down the best rpg I have played.

Being used to elder scrolls and similar open world rpg games it was definitely a bit weird changing to turn-based, click to move style play. But omg is it worth the adjustment! This is up there with the likes of read dead redemption 2 in terms of care and thought of the developers who made the game. Lairion took their time and put in the effort to make a proper game and it has payed off.

Unlike most modern games we got a complete, microtansaction and pre-installed dlc-free, cheap, satisfying game which has redefined its genre.

I have discovered one single bug so far after 50 hours which was a simple visual bug in a single cutscene. The rest of the game has been running smooth as silk.

The depth of roleplay is astounding, they really have thought of everything. It's playing DnD on a computer. For people like me who struggle to get into DnD because we've been raised on video games rather than tabletop/ imagination based games this really is the best roleplaying experience you can get.

I've found that, just like my first time playing fallout new vegas or morrowind that I've gone way off track from my objective to explore that cave which has led to a me exploring a village and then a random walk around so if you like rhe wandering of other open world rpgs you'll get that here also.

Hopefully I've convinced any rpg video gamers that BG3 is absolutely worth getting. Don't be put off by how different the style of play is as I was, it's totally worth it.

Game of the year and decade so far for me.

Brilliant! Addictive!
scott-793-57861313 August 2023
Until playing this game, I was not into turned-base combat or single player experiences.

But now I'm addicted and eager to join my friends in a co-op campaign. Loving just how much thought and effort was put into this game! I love the freedom of movement and how many choices you can make, as well as how the choices affect the world.

Let it serve as a lesson to all the studios that have been creating games of lower and lower quality over the past 5 years or so.

Very few rpg's can reach this level of excellence
P9714 August 2023
For me i wasn't even hyped for this game, i knew it was in early access for years but i wasn't a fan of d&d or crpg's in general so it didn't grab my attention up until they showed the bear scene lol and i saw how cinematic the game looks it reminded me a lot of bioware and dragon age origins which i adore then i remembered that game was the spiritual successor to baldur's gate so i was like what the hell let's see if it's as good, fast-forward to today and my god this game is incredible, it has consumed my life for 55 hours (character creator itself took me 3h) and i've only scratched the surface, it's baby numbers because the game is huge and very detailed, npc's are so well written with each having their own personality and thoughts, a lot of decisions that can have so much impact without you even realizing and on top of all your companions, some of the most layered and interesting that i've seen (a crime that you can only choose 3 out of camp) that makes the game such an immersive and addicting experience that somehow became my game for the year and i didn't think anything could top RE4R and TOTK for me but this game and larian studios deserve all the praise that they can get.

10/10 masterful, enchanting and peak rpg experience.

Tiw balders gate
HeyimShibby11 August 2023
This is probably one of the best games on release in the past couple years. It's a bar raiser at its least. This game is complex but also relatively straightforward.

There is an immense amount of lore and character choice. The writing is fantastic and the game really doesn't feel boring whatsoever.

There are so many different ways to play, so many different paths that have small to massive impact on the way the game is played.

Realistically this is one of the best games I've ever played. It's absolutely stunning how amazing the game looks, feels, plays... it's honestly a jawdropping achievement in RPG's.

If there was any improvements I could request, they would simply be nitpicking and i do feel like i gotta really search for a problem. Like maybe I wish the equipment system was a little less derivative/slow, but it really isn't that bad. Also some of the companions are a little annoying, but I just slaughtered them... WHICH IS COOL. ITS COOL I CAN DO THAT!!!

Overall, fantastic story, fantastic character design, Amazing lore, immense player choice, and wonderful game play. There are very few things that could be improved in this masterpiece of a videogame. I hope future developers use this as inspiration as I just can't give this game enough praise.

High to mid 10/10.

Over 70 hours in and still obsessed
Ashpjames31 August 2023
I can't get enough. I'm playing on PC, an old Haswell i7, but plenty of ram and a 1080ti GPU, so far running very well. No crashes, no major glitches (an odd one with speech options just giving me "continue" which then result as if something significant was said but that's only happened twice so I'm unsure what's what there).

The characters are well written, the plot is gripping and the world is interesting to explore. I have always been a huge BioWare fangirl, but honestly, Larian have completely blown away my previous faves; they really are the studio for epic CRPGs now. The voice acting is also 10/10.

It's a very well crafted game all around and knowing how Larian were with DOS:II it'll hopefully receive ongoing support and tweaks to make things better.

a new benchmark in gaming
hermessealed2 September 2023
BG1 and BG2 are some of my favourite games. I wasn't entirely sure if BG3 would live up to the series but having just finished the game I can say that the game definitely delivered. The bar has definitely been raised and people will compare future RPG games (and games in general) to BG3 for years to come.

The game has plenty of content and it will take an average player hundreds of hours to comb through all of the content. Player choice is robust and seem to have meaningful impact to the overall storyline. Combat is robust, dialogue options are fleshed out and the overall world-building was faithful enough to the source material.

Genre changing masterpiece
Tott_donetta1 November 2023
Every now and then something come along that change's things. Star Wars changed sci-fi, Lord of the Rings changed fantasy, Elvis changed music. Baldurs Gate 3 just changed things for games. I've been playing video games since the Atari 2600 and there aren't many that have had an impact like BG3.

The game play is phenomenal, I have never seen a game as intricate as this, the level of detail is truly awe inspiring. If you are stuck on a boss and you read a dozen different guides, you can find a dozen different but completely valid ways to beat that boss. You are encouraged to think outside the box and use every single trick and tool at your disposal to create almost any tactic or strategy you can think of. At the end of a corridor there is a room full of enemies, far too many for your team of 4 to deal with. Have your team stand at one end of the corridor, create a large puddle the length of the corridor (either by pouring it from bottles of water in your inventory or using spells to create the water) separate your character, attack one of those enemies and then run back down the corridor through the water, the large group of enemies will chase you. Once your character is clear of the water, cast an ice spell on it. The water will freeze and the enemies chasing you will slip over, bunching up. Cast a large fireball to hurt all of those enemies and melt the ice, then cast a lightning bolt on the water, it electrocutes everyone stood in the puddle. The number of options you have for each and every step of the encounter are vast.

The story line is great, epic, engaging, intricately crafted and effected by you, your choices have permanent repercussions that will follow you for the rest of the game, your mistakes will haunt you, your victories elate you. I've lost count of the number of occasions where a choice of mine has led to a result that feels like a kick in the guts or just left me grinning at the screen for far too long. And this is only magnified by a brilliant cast, the actors playing your companions smashed it out of the park! The voice work and motion capture performances are top rate, and not just the companions, the villains as well - JK Simmons and Jason Isaacs bring the calibre you'd expect. The actress playing Orin the Red - wow! And Raphael, I love to hate that guy! Even the minor NPC's are unique, they aren't just 'City Guard' they have a unique name, appearance, and notably, a unique voice actor and script. There are hundreds of unique NPC's walking around each of the three acts in this game, often for nothing more than world building.

And it's a beautiful world, its huge, its intricate, it looks amazing, and it sounds amazing too, if this were a movie the Oscar for best soundtrack would be a sure thing. Again, the number of times you just stop and drink in the sounds are abundant. Borislav Slavov - Hollywood needs to realise he's the next John Williams. Even at the character creation screen, just stop what you're doing and listen to 'Down by the River' playing in the background. That's just one of dozens of masterful compositions in this game! Also, on the subject of sounds - the Narrator: lord that voice! I could listen to her read a shopping list.

Is BG3 perfect? No. In a game this massive there are going to be bugs but they are minor and largely ignorable, I'm more annoyed that the likes of Alfira or Zevlor can't join the party. More importantly, there are no microtransactions or stupid DLC's. This is a complete game that has been years in the making and it shows. It oozes class. Anyone making a game right now will play this and I suspect the vast majority of them will realise they need to go back to the drawing board. Things just changed for them.

Mind blowing!
Malco1m_Y19 September 2023
Played a lot of D&D as a kid in the 80's/90's and grew up playing Dungeon Master, OG Diablo, Mars Saga, Wasteland etc and always loved RPGs. Something happened to a lot of PC games since then where it seemed to lose the soul that makes a good game great. I veered away from RGPs on PC as it was typically first person and real time, and while a lot of people enjoy that format I still like the fun that comes with turn based combat and proper dungeon crawling. I spent my adult years playing simulators and strategy games in lieu of the RPG genre, right up until a very good friend told me about Balder's Gate 3. I had a spare evening and decided to purchase the game, a week later I'd sunk 107 hours in to this veritable masterpiece.

The graphics are stunning, the story and gameplay are deep, and the voice acting really adds depth and texture to the game to really draw you in. A lot of games have really cringe voice acting but I was shocked with how good BG3 is on this front. There's some epic moments with some epic cut scenes which blew me away, and there's so much to see and do I think this will be my go to game for months to come; if not years! I've just started Act 2 and I'm already planning my next play through. Congrats to the team and all involved, you knocked this one out the park. I haven't lost myself in a game this much since the Amiga days, due in part to growing up, but this game managed to bring out the kid in me again and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Peace, love and respect from Australia.

An epic masterpiece
cpjack-55-57592118 October 2023
A technical stable game that is far beyond a videogame. Literally everything is pure art. The story is not one story instead the player has hundreds of different outcomes. Aside that, the storyline itself and dialogues are worth multiple oscars. Same goes for the voice acting, music graphics, physics, love to details and choreography, which no game ever had before at this quality level.

On average you can expect 80-120 hours of gameplay, where an incredibly bounding to your teammates happens.

In over 30 years of playing games, I never had sich an immersive experience like in this masterpiece.

I love it !!
jinjess-7117029 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
At first, I was wondering why this game couldn't be more like Dark Souls, where you can move around and attack enemies. However, after playing it for a while, I fell deeply in love with the game. I enjoy picking up random items that are scattered on the ground.

Guess who's back? My favorite character, Astarion, is voiced by Nikolai Zinoviev from Resident Evil. Astarion has this fancy diva vibe with a hot British accent, which is why I adore him so much. He's so cute, especially when he says, "What do you want, now?" Haha.

Some of the details are incredibly attractive to me and just feel perfect. For instance, it's a small detail, but when your character, who is muscular and strong, kicks a door in the animation, it fits so smoothly.

Even the original characters and NPCs are so appealing! They have such an alluring quality to them.

BG3 is the best RPG ever played!
ozborni10 September 2023
This is without a doubt the best RPG to date I have ever played and I have played a wide range of RPGs (and MMORPGs).

Pros, varying storyline like no other, utterly immersive, the maps, sets, areas are unbelievably detailed and intricate, the accuracy to DnD systems, the depth of every single character companion, the character creation system and the (not yet confirmed but highly likely) replayability of 100"s-1000's of hours, split screen CO-OP with 2 controllers is just so fluid.

Cons, you can't disable the turn based combat, I feel this would make it appeal to the action rpg fans, and there aren't enough hours in the day to play it.

It's really good at times and also really bad. Xbox S/X
phelectric7 February 2024
My biggest complaint, I played half of Act 3 and then quit because it just want fun anymore. Act 1 and 2 are great. End of Act 2 is as good as the game gets and then it nosedives.

Fights are drawn out too long, takes forever for the enemies to Get through their turns. Crowded battles are a mess. Every character wants to have cartoon sex. The males are all trying to get at your guy parts right out of the gate, every single one of them. Smh

It's a nerds game, it's geeky and quite honestly embarrassing to play for the story. Your character is wooden and just stands there, which is weird when the other npcs talk and have animation to them.

You can do almost anything you think of which is good. There is a solution to everything. However I can't stand how you can get locked out of so many side quest and other characters. If you go around and do whatever you want, it can make for a very boring story.

If I was to go back and play it again I'd try to make a character who kills everyone besides Karlach.

Overrated and boring
backinstyle-2732926 October 2023
It's basically a dating sim with some crpg elements. The combat is incredibly easy, even on tactician mode, and super boring. The main story and companion stories are repetitive and uninspiring. The whole game feels very superficial, like all it has going for it is looks, yet little depth.

It has missing dialogue and reactions, as well as some storyline bugs and performance issues. While this is mostly seen in act 3, there are some in the other 2 acts as well. It's been out for 3 months and it's still a buggy mess. Also, earlier choices don't really matter, there's only 3 possible endings anyway and they're all very lackluster.

I hate it when gaming companies tell you that there's all this player choice and how those choices matter, only to find out that it was all a lie. Based on the way Larian described it, I was expecting multiple pathways with numerous outcomes. How disappointing.

Its very rare you get a game that has so many choices!
lgikl30 August 2023
Baldur's gate III is the master of multiple choice. You truly do create your own path in this game and can engage in combat with pretty much every NPC in the game. More or less everyone you speak to has a agree or disagree answer. I still feel like this game would take several playthroughs before you have gotten the full experience. I really wasn't sure about the turn based combat at first but they have done an amazing job with how they implemented it. Its not just a matter of pressing attack or heal, there is so many other things they have added to it in order to make it more interesting and have more to think about.

One thing I didn't like was holding mouse to move round. The amount of walking in this game just made this feel like a chore. In Diablo or something it works cos you engage in allot of combat but in BG3 there isn't as much. You can install a mod on PC that allows you to walk using WASD (outside of combat) and another mod for the camera. This makes the game play more like FFX14 or WoW. After that the game was much more fun and I think Layrien should release an update that makes this a feature.

Game of the century
Kwaakku_26 September 2023
I thought Skyrim was a perfect game, but after playing Baldurs Gate III, my whole view of a great game changed. First of all the game is not a buggy mess from the beginning, since the developers clearly have done their job and released the game in a state that is actually working. Skyrim was not like this from the start and they didn't fix the bugs either. Modders did that. Secondly baldurs gate III successes in gameplay category so good, that you can play the game over and over again, and still be fun, and you don't even have to do that. You can change your class and skills anytime, if you find your current playstyle unsatisfying. Skyrims gameplay got boring fast, since the overall combat mechanics were very clunky. Yet again modders had to fix that. Thanks skyrim modders. And finally Baldurs Gate III story, voice acting, vibe and atmosphere are just perfect. You can sink hundreds of hours in this game, and still find new ways to play and affect the games story. I have never played a triple AAA game that has from the start been this good. Larian studios have truly set the standard for a game and how it should be from the release. Thak you. Thank you for this masterpiece.

"No notes"
btz_tudor13 January 2024
After The Witcher 3, I didn't think any RPG would ever rise to the challenge again, but I am very happy to admit that I was wrong.

Single player RPG's are the best form of games to date, in my humble opinion, and this one is the bee's knees: great story, characters, voice acting, dialogues, soundtrack, graphics, gameplay.. the level of detail is impressive, to say the least.

A very immersive gameplay makes it a paragon for DnD titles across the board; few hours into the story and you can clearly see the amount of effort put into the development. A clear winner for GOTY, and, after a few tweaks, patches and fixes (maybe even an expansion, if we're lucky..), a definitive edition will make the history books of modern gaming in one of the top positions.

My sincere congratulations for the Larian team! After almost 20 years of playing all kinds of PC games, the fact that I can still find these very rare titles that get me hooked and eager to continue playing, gives me hope for the future of SP gaming. Bravo!

Thats a beauty
F.Gama4 November 2023
Baldurs gate 3 is one of the best games that ive played. With great characters, solid story, beautiful music and a huge world to explore, its impossible not to enjoy this huge experience.

The combat system is awesome and it requires a strategy mind to win, but you can kind of Taylor it by saving on which step or action. It can be frustrating at first, but it is really satisfatory when you win.

The storyline has many ramifications by each thing you choose to say or do, and of course it does change The gameplay and its endings.

IF you have a chance to play Baldurs Gate 3, do it. Its no a simples game, its a Life experience.

Best RPG in years
matteric-3685424 September 2023
Not many games are true "RPGs" anymore, too many just throw skill trees and a few branching narratives into their action games. This brings me back to the golden age of RPGs like Knights of the Old Republic and the Mass Effect trilogy. The story is great, tons of branching paths, I've played it three times now and have discovered tons of new content, characters, side quests, and going online I see there's a ton more that I haven't discovered. The combat is super in depth, based off of DND 5e but with tons of cool and unique gear that can have enormous potential for really interesting synergies. I've made a sorcerer who is basically Elsa freezing everyone with rays of frost, a cleric that acts like a divine wrecking ball flying around the slaughtering and blinding people by just getting close to them, and a bloodthirsty fighter making 4 attacks a turn with a 35% chance to double damage each time. You can recruit a dog, an owlbear cub, a little brain that disguises itself as a kitty, and even summon an army of ghouls. Every side quest feeds into the final act by allowing you to summon a powerful ally to help you win the day. The recruitable characters are all super interesting with a lot of depth in how their arcs develop depending on your actions. Every problem can be solved by sneaking around, running in swinging, or just wagging your silvery tongue. I'm addicted, and it has ruined other rpg games for me. Easiest 10/10 in my life.

Best game I've ever played. FANTASTIC. EPIC.
jcooloti2 March 2024
I've completed the game going the heroic route. Did every side quest. I adore this game. Honestly, my favorite game of all time, not lying. Negative reviews on here are by trolls that's have low attention spans. If you want fantastic writing, characters arcs performed by amazing voice talent, and enjoy turned based strategy and role playing you will love this game. It's essentially just Dungeons and Dragons. Same rules. However, imagine playing D&D with the best dungeon master ever and beautiful computer graphics illustrating your story. It's also not afraid to get totally absurd, goofy, or just plain freaky deeky if that's your style. It's up to you. You can have sex with a bear. It's pretty rad. Lol. Honestly though, it will probably hit you on an emotional level the more seriously you take it. Finishing the game for me was an extremely emotional experience for me after 250 hours. The denouement was fantastic. I really needed that, and it was great that they put it in there. It's really sad to end the game because you really become friends in a way with your companions. You actually really care about them. Such great writing. Minor bugs are forgivable on the technical side, after all it is a video game. It's also an extremely complex game with so many variables. This is a game for grown ups, not inpatient button smashers. If you're mature and love D&D, it doesn't get any better than this.

Larian can have my entire wallet
agb3112 February 2024
Bangin. Figuratively and literally. 100+ hours and I ain't even done with the main story yet...not to mention that to truly experience every piece of content in this behemoth of a game it would take well over another handful of playthroughs. Game devs pls take notes I am not tryna pay $60+ to finish a buggy mess in 15 hours. I enjoyed my actions actually having consequences...I save one kid's life early game and they're back 50 hours later saying "thanks man u really turned my life around I got a job and shi" damn lil bro I don't even know who you are. You're welcome I guess. Anyways don't play this game if you have any sense of respect for your free time because you'll blink twice and suddenly it's 6am with the sun rising, birds chirping and the absolute telling you to go to bed. On a final note...jk simmons has absolutely no right nailing every voice job he does. It just aint fair. Bro needa adopt me rn.

Absolutely buggy and messy beyond act one
uffycd25 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
After act one it just goes downhill. It's a buggy unfinished game with many flaws and no real freedom. I accident attacked a rat and I was locked out of a whole questline at the gauntlet of shar for example. The camera is always shaking and vibrating and if I do the slightest thing the game wouldn't expect the game breaks instantly.

The game is too complex for its own sake the developers have not completed it yet. Why give me so many options (SPOILER) at the girth creche if EVERY SINGLE OUTCOME is the same. The goth become your enemies, they know you have the artifact and you have to kill the inquisitor. This applies to almost every encounter. I attacked the old hag in her hut because she was using vile magic, now I'm locked out of receiving the permanent buff with the hair AND the quest is forever stuck with the questmarker annoying me.

Some Great, Some Issues
jdavisjdavis30 October 2023
To sum it up... 10 stars on the monsters and the ability to build out various characters in D&D 5e to test out and play in an amazingly varied and deep campaign.

2 stars on the in your face social commentary; please, just let me enjoy my time away from the news and modern troubles.

Let's get into the nitty gritty.

What is great: Mostly very entertaining. Lots and lots of D&D that you can see with your own eyes. Variety of monsters. So many character building options with cool spells, fighting abilities, and effects that closely match D&D 5e. I just started playing 5e in real life, and this is helping me learn the tabletop game faster, despite a few small homebrew style differences.

1. Do you like cool, really cool, looking monsters? They get this right 95% of the time. Love it. Some incredible, incredible reveals... play the game for this if nothing else.

2. Character designs, specifically outfits are pretty great designs also.

3. Character visuals, specifically they didn't go for the everybody-uses-steroids thing, thank you very much. People seemed like real people.

4. The story even got me interested, and that's saying something for a game. The dialogue is excellent - very professionally written, better than some big Hollywood movies I dare say.

5. Fey monsters and "people" are varied and interesting, done better than any D&D game I've ever heard of.

6. Elves, Dwarves, Drow, half-elves mostly felt pretty darn right, except for my gripes below.

7. Can't wait to play a Dragonborn, that'll be my second play through.

What I didn't like: 1. Mages feel weak, damage-wise. It's hard to hit enemies without a grid to line up spells perfectly, example: Burning Hands. Counter example: But Wall of Fire works well enough if you take your time and rotate the camera a lot.

2. Not based on human history or human realities enough to feel realistic. More 2023-social-change-in-your-face-Hollywood style than D&D game. The stronger default fighters are female, but I will say that it's at least a nice change of pace from always making the females the mages. Your male side-characters try to romantically hit on your main male character, not a fan. Lots of distracting and weird Rated R romance potential all over that I didn't need in this game, don't let the kids play this.

3. Deviations from classic D&D. Goblins have funny colorful hairstyles and half the goblins and other baddies are again female fighters/guards. Half-devil Tieflings are the good guys. Half the human guards are women. The human racial and non-human racial representation is more like downtown big city USA than a medieval world where different races would be special. The male-female divide is much more 2020s USA than anything medieval ever had. I was about to say the children felt wrong, but without giving too much away there are some typical scoundrel kids that pan out to be classic D&D.

4. Too much space sci-fi feel instead of medieval feel in the beginning and randomly here and there. But it definitely got better once you got past the beginning (I haven't beaten the game yet but getting sort of close).

5. Too much gore too, actually. That's probably typical of the bad guys you deal with in the beginning, but... pretty yucky.

6. Accents are too pronounced. I love real accents in real life, but I love fantasy worlds where accents aren't perfectly matched to a certain stereotypical social status class in a town in England. At least stick to non-modern dialect/phrases... come to think of it they did OK on the dialect/phrases for the most part.

It not for everyone
cnd-207292 September 2023
Me and my friends decide to play this game for a while on call with each other. I played it for about 45 min and then got bored with it they still kept playing but I felt bad cus I didn't play with them for long. The genre of game wasn't for me and while everything looked great and that there are Like a zabilion endings and dialogue options it wasn't for me. If u like big role playing games this will be your cool little game but for me it wasn't that fun I give it a 4/10 because to me it got hyped up way to much but I can see other people playing it a lot. I also loved how you can get spicy in the bed sheets with characters but I didn't watch it because I don't want to see sex lol.

Amazing and just wow

I never played d&d and when i play bg3 i was shocked on how amazing is it , the main story and the companies story is just amazing and how can you shape them to be , the game play is smooth and really impressive and fun , everything is made with love and care , from character design and clothes style and items are really cool , there is like 7-8 endings the 17k endings are with the companions ending , if you're looking for an amazing lore and characters and story and iconic gameplay, then you found the best game , I really liked the house of hope and killing ansur quest and every quest in the game.

I love this game...

I adore this game, I've put so many hours into it and I love all the little side stories and how each playable and even some npc have such interesting stories and backgrounds.

I don't really know much about Larian, I tried Divinity II but couldn't get into as much as BG3 but am willing to give it another go after enjoying this game.

I think the only thing that stops me from giving it a 10 is some little things I find a bit of a grind. I mean the game itself is a massive grind, but it stays interesting so *shrug* and I don't know if there was an easier way that I missed(even sorting by latest, yes), but I found looking through inventory for certain things was very annoying. Getting rid of the info panel which would literally even remove the title of the item just made looking for things an arduous task.
