Most of the elements of "The Smurflings" and "Sassette" were later combined into one comic story titled "Les P'tits Schtroumpfs" ("The Little Smurfs" in English) in 1988. There were some major differences between the cartoon original and the comic adaptation:
- The Smurflings are aware of the fact that they de-aged in the comic version and retain their memories of their adult pasts.
- While Father Time is mentioned in the comic version, he was no where to be seen. Father Time was created by Studio Peyo for the cartoon series.
"The Smurflings" marks the last appearance of the adult Nat for the entire animated series. It is also the first and only animated appearance of the adult Snappy and Slouchy. Like Nat, Snappy and Slouchy were originally created by Studio Peyo for the cartoon series, but will make their comic debuts in the 1988 story "Les P'tits Schtroumpfs" ("The Little Smurfs" in English).
"Papa's Day Off" marks the second time Papa Smurf "breaks the fourth wall," the previous time being in "The Fountain of Smurf."
