An item called 'Vleesch', though announced during the opening credits, was rejected by the VPRO for being to graphic to be broadcast between 19.00 and 20.00 pm. In it, the filmmakers followed a cow on it's way to the slaughter in an attempt to show the cruelty of the meat industry. The VPRO promised to broadcast 'Vleesch' in a later time slot, but they never did.
Pictures of a nude Phil Bloom reading an issue of the 'Trouw' newspaper on the set of Hoepla 2 were published by 'Het Vrije Volk' and other newspapers before the show was aired. When the editors of 'Trouw' objected and threatened to sue the VPRO for the including of their paper, it was announced that the sequence would be cut. Instead, a new sequence featuring a nude Bloom reading from 'Het Vrije Volk' was filmed in photo studio Checkpoint, The Hague. The short sequence, which had the address of the VPRO so viewers could either become a member or give up their membership as an optical over Bloom, caused world wide newspaper attention.
