Germans in the Woods is a fine animated account of a moment orally told by a World War II veteran
tavm11 November 2009
Just watched this today-Veterans Day-on the Vimeo site as linked from Cartoon Brew. Retired soldier Joseph Robertson tells his son-in-law, John Fish, Jr., his account of killing a young German one during the Battle of the Bulge. Animator Tim Rauch uses black-and-white line drawings to effectively convey the atmosphere of what it was like to have to defend yourself against someone so young yet also very insistent on taking one's life in service to his country and how the resulting feelings can become mixed as the years go on. This short's length is only three minutes yet the impact can stay for days if one thinks about what many men like Robertson had to go through just to survive. So it's to many of those men and women who've experienced such situations that this comment is dedicated to. May God help your souls for the rest of your lives.
