While it glosses on some parts of American history, "No More Kings" is another entertaining segment of "Schoolhouse Rock!"

This animated segment of "Schoolhouse Rock!" was the first of the "America Rock" season that aired before the Bicentennial year of 1976. As written and sung by Lynn Ahrens (with some spoken recitations done by Bob Dorough), "No More Kings" told of the pilgrims journey to Plymoth Rock to settle down as a colony of Mother England pledging loyalty to her before their offspring later declared freedom from the European country because of King George III's unfair Taxation Without Representation. From there, it touches on the Boston Tea Party protestation and eventual revolution to American independence with the title being sung frequently by Ms. Aherns as Dorough then says, "We're gonna elect a president", then someone else says, "He's gonna do what the people wants", then another one says, "We're gonna do things our way", with finally someone else declaring, "No one is gonna tells us what to do!" While this short glosses on the whys of certain things, who can resist the final words of this song which goes: "Rockin' and a-rollin'/Splishin' and-a splashin'/Over the horizon, what can it be?/Looks like it's going to be a free country". So on that note, "No More Kings" is recommended.
