I See You was originally written as a stage play and performed on stage in 2004 at the Ensemble Studio Theater's Going To The River Festival hosted by Elizabeth Van Dyke. It was inspired from a lecture by Dr. Joy DeGruy Leary on Dr. Martin Luther King day at Abyssinia Baptist Church on 1/19/2004. The role of Billy Banks was played by Edmund Mensah. In the film the role of Billy Banks was split between two last minute replacement actors; Sante Laird and Jeremy Johnson. All other actors reprised their original roles for the 2009 short film release shot on June 28, 2008 in the Hamptons.
