Back to the classics.

After weak season, with Covid limitations and bad writing, this week's episode was back to NCIS LA we know and love . The focus was on our core characters, especially Callen who I think is the most interesting one , the other core characters were used as they should , It had good humour that was not over the top and great plot with even better twist at the end. This was NCIS LA coming back to what is working . Also great debut to Daniela Ruah for the director chair.

Long overdue storyline about G.Callen

Warning: Spoilers
It's about time we get got an episode that questions his faithfulness to America considering his Russian background but considering that he works for the Navy and not the CIA the delay is understandable. I could also argue that considering who his Father is he could have been the total opposite and work for the 'bad' side.

I have a few theories about why this is happening. The show suggests that it has to do with Hetty trying to get to a mole but it could be retribution for the Russian(Pavel Volkof) killed in Cuba who is connected to Putin. Anna, Katie, Joelle, and the team are connected to all of it. That all happened in season 10.

The last scene between Zasha Gagarin and Callen I figure that her love of money is greater than her love for Russia because it seems that G is paying her for information on the Russian side.

Finally!

Too soon to declare victory, but writers seem to be back on track. Of course the plot is implausible, but escapist fiction is meant to be. Nice to see less insipid banter amongst the team. I would have rated 10 but for nonsense with Deeks modeling. But Deeks now gets haircuts - a good thing.

Warning: Spoilers
I am not expecting incredible episodes from NCIS: Los Angeles at this point in the show's run, but I know we are capable of more than this.

Still, when you are dealing with the subject of Russia this could have gone way over the top and political, and they did not go that direction so there was that.

They have built G's past up pretty well here. This is something the show has spent a lot of time on and it is rare that over a decade in we are still learning more and more about a central character.

Decent episode, poison stuff is always crazy for me as a viewer, but I know the show can be better than this.
