Not the funniest episode of Sunny, but it feels just right.
nucleus-247188 June 2023
The creators of this show have come back to roots. The writers of the earlier seasons and them going back to old episodes through their podcast made this episode feel right. It feels like classic Sunny we all love.

I only laughed twice at the respective pay-off of the plot lines in the episode. Charlie's business gag pay-off was the best of them all. As always the show weaponizes the status quo in an interesting way.

I think part of why this episode succeeds and why I feel the rest of this season will is that the jokes aren't stale anymore. I felt that in the last few seasons the jokes got far too repetitive turning the show into gags that are repeated alongside a couple new jokes. But here I feel the jokes are all new, great, and unpredictable.

One thing I've come to love on more recent Sunny episodes are the random and shocking emotional moments which is probably my favorite part of the show. I hope this season still keeps that gravitas in at least one moment.

Overall a nice return to formula tackling a recent issue in a fun way 8.5/10.

Classic Sunny with a twist
movies_are_life_9 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
There have been several episodes where the gang has tensions that almost cause them to split. In "The Gang Misses the Boat" they go as far as showing the entire gang's lifestyle get flipped upside down. This episode proves that sometimes these characters have to go to crazy lengths to avoid the balance from tipping the scales of the gang's way of living.

The episode once again reflects the culture in which it was made. The results are very funny. Through Frank's millions, inflation doesn't mean a thing to the gang. They live in a world almost separate from reality. In this episode, we see how inflation reflects only on the gang's own inflated opinion of their characteristics. In the end, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles saves the day in a way that exemplifies the meaning of the episode.

Great start to the season

As for the dissapointed reviewers, Sunny has been going for a long time now and these guys are all into their late 40s. Ofcourse it ain't as sharp and quick witted as their hayday when they were in their 30s. You can't compare all the episodes to their best. Not even mentioning the changing norms in our society.

Having said that, i think it's really impressive what they manage to put out after going for 16 seasons. I thought the writing and concept for this episode was pretty funny and clever. Definitely very enjoyable. I look forward to the rest of the season and to me it seems they are still having fun with it!

Best Episode of IASAP In Many Years/ Seasons!
callumfaulkner8 July 2023
This episode was a throwback to classic Sunny.

They took a pertinent real world issue and gave it the IASIP treatment. But they also kept it simple. No wacky too-over-the-top shenanigans; no ridiculous characters; no absurd, unbelievable, unrealistic events. Just good character dynamics/ interaction.

To be brutally objective, it probably wasn't as excellent as the best seasons of IASIP. But that is a pretty high standard to achieve. And overall it was a solid episode that is leaps and bounds better than the dross that the recent seasons have served up.

If the rest of the season is this good this could be an IASIP revival!

Hilarious

The sixteenth season starts off with a pretty hilarious start. I considered mac to be the weakest link, he always feels like he's trying a little to hard to be funny but don't mistake that for him being not funny even if he tries to hard I still enjoy macs character , he made me laugh the whole time. The plot gets buried in the humor of the show and that's why I love sunny, I think it was a great season opener for any show idc about there age this show can go against any show even this season I can tell just from this episode that this season will be another banger. It's like saying lebron can't go another 4 years , it's in there blood.

Decennt opener
afurkankurt8 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
There were a few good puns but overall I think this wasn't a great opener. In the intro how Frank fooled Mac and Dennis that a buck is worth 25 cents like that was kinda out of character for them that was Patrick level stupidity even Charlie wouldn't trade 10 bucks for 5.

The bedroom and toilet reveal was nice but felt like they could've done more with that. And I found Charlie glueing a pillow to the wall for Dee pretty funny and kinda wholesome. They kinda overdid the Mac's alergie joke. The ending was pretty good, always like to see Charlie ending up outsmarting the gang. Below the avarage for Sunny but not a bad episode in any way.

Lost their love for their show.
bernard_faulkner10 June 2023
It's seems they haven't time for their show anymore. Obviously comes down to other priorities days. We have all enjoyed them in various other stuff. I guess now we see the cost. This series is clearly strung together with the quickest effort and "sure it'll do" attitude, whilst playing it save in the no fun era. It seems like they are fulfilling a contract and that's it, no joke, no fun, bore by numbers. So sad to see the greateat of comedy lose their lust for a show that broke the mould. They'll regret this in the long run. You'll never get this show back and never do anything better. All the best to the cast. They'll go down in history for amazing comedy and hopefully we don't remember how they got too big for their show.

Not my cup of tea sadly.

Warning: Spoilers
First episode I've seen of the last 3 seasons and I was kinda hyped because I listen to the podcast and I honestly love sunny but the show was slowly turning into something I don't like.

Huge missuse of the extra room and bathroom in Charlie's appartment. Could have been good, change the dynamics in the season, maybe letting Dee live with them or someone outside the gang and change things up a little but it only function as a one off joke and is used to reset the gang of this weeks plot. I'm sure we'll never see the room again. Also not that surprising to find out that Charlie had an extra room and bathroom, it's been talked about since the show started basically.

Dee glues herself to walls and doors. That's her entire plot.

Mac is used to make felatio jokes as the gay of the group. Also both Mac and Dennis are stupid now.... Mac trades 10$ for 5$? They were not that stupid in the past Frank evicted her daughter apparently and only returned her home when Charlie came with some stale TMNT cakes from the 90s and traded the knowledge of an extra room and bathroom plus letting dee return and giving Dennis and Mac their money back. I mean.... what? It makes no goddamn sense but whatever.

Did not laugh out loud once sadly and I don't remember any funny or original bits. Gonna watch the entire season and hope for better episodes, I've seen episode 2 and it ain't it.

Hoping for better episodes,I really do love the gang, the show and the podcast, I wish them all the best.

Okay

Warning: Spoilers
Kind of a slow start to the season but if memory serves that's not unusual. Got a couple of chuckle's from Mac's situation and kind of funny that Charlie had a bedroom this whole time...Other than that, there's nothing particularly hilarious in this one- mostly riffing and jokey dialogue that doesn't always land in my opinion...Tying-in current events is a popular trend on the show and this one trying to talk about inflation while ultimately resulting in an inflatable furniture venture is a funny concept but wasn't really fleshed out. Also, I admit I've slacked on newer seasons so I acknowledge that looks have changed but Dee is looking a little too put together in my opinion and Mac without the beard kind of feels wrong. Looking forward to the rest of the new season.

The Gang Inflates
bobcobb30119 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This show has been on the air for almost 20 years which just seems insane given how short the runs of some programs are these days, and they still find a way to keep things fresh.

I really hate the storyline that it seems almost every sitcom has to have where someone has a nut allergy and their face ends up blowing up, but thankfully that was a very small portion of this episode.

They tackled inflation and had a good take on inflation with literal inflatable furniture.

A funny episode and a good sign that maybe It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia still has some life left in it ahead of this latest season.

Weird mixture of plots
sarahm171 July 2023
Don't know what happened here but it just didn't feel natural or well executed at all. Doesn't even make sense and is not funny one bit. I think last seasons ending scene wouldn't been a good end. Judging from this episode. I'm on episode 2 as well and it's not any better. It is better than this but it's still not good. Also the seasons are very short as well so there's no excuse for bad writing or anything. The most we get per season is 10 episodes and with them being short as well they should be very good quality. Well executed and entertaining but this isn't. You can't hide behind fillers and a few bad episodes when this season is 8 episodes as well and they're awful.

Dee gluing herself to the walls and doors the entire episode for no good reason. The weird plot with Mac and the nuts. It seemed so off and just random. It wasn't even funny either. It was just strange. The only interesting thing was the extra room and bathroom but they didn't even use that. It wasn't a surprise as we obviously knew that before but it could've been good episode if they actually focused on that and actually made it about that but instead they wrapped it up quickly with Charlie wanting it bordered back up in exchange Frank got some stale cakes and Dee gets her apartment back. We didn't even get that many scenes in it. What a bad use of the most interesting thing in this episode. I thought at least Dee or someone could've moved in or they did something useful with it at least but nothing. It could've been entertaining but instead it's forgettable.

Painfully Average
luisq0511 June 2023
The episode is very slow, very few things happen to be an episode of Always Sunny,it starts with a good idea about inflation, but in the end it does not seemed to be executed, it's very contrived and simple.

I consider myslef to be a hardcore fan of the show, and I've been following them and their projects last few months, I would say they have dedicated less time to this season after seeing this episode, and the lenght of the season.

I'm hoping it's going to be a fluke start and it will get better, it's hardly the first bad episode of the show but man.....

Pretty slow, the dialogues, the movement, the action, if feels like they are just readinga paper most of the time, uninspired.
