Italian Mini-Series about the Origin of the Sicilian Mafia
ZeddaZogenau24 March 2024
Interesting Italian mini-series about a daily newspaper in Palermo, which develops from a sluggish communist newspaper towards the end of the 1950s into an investigative cadre factory against the omnipresent mafia. The series produced by SKY ITALIA is extremely successful. What is offered is the real prehistory of all the police, mafia films and EuroCrime films from the Roman CINECITTA of the 1970s.

The Italian series is a very enlightening film adaptation of the novel by Giuseppe SOTTILE about the courageous daily newspaper that develops from a sleepy communist newspaper to a fighter against the mafia from Corleone. But it also becomes clear what a high price everyone involved in this courageous fight has to pay.

Of the actors, Claudio SANTAMARIA as editor-in-chief and Giampiero De CONCILIO and Samuele SEGRETO as brothers who develop from rancid pickpockets into investigative journalists are particularly noteworthy. Great!

The love story between young journalist Domenico (incredibly good: Giovanni ALFIERI) and the beautiful Olivia (Selene CARAMAZZA) shows the almost inevitable tragedy of Sicilian conditions.

For fans of Italian mafia films, this series is a must-have as a quasi-prequel!

A gem

I stumbled on this series on Disney+, where it was recommended to me after I watched LA Confidential. I don't usually write reviews, but am so pleasantly surprised by this series, I don't understand why I never heard of it and why I can't find any reviews in English.

A David vs Goliath story, based on the true story of a bunch of courageous journalists of a struggling, small Sicilian newspaper that were the first ones to investigate the Mafia.

Historically interesting and intellectually inspiring, this series is also a feast for the eyes. The cinematography is extremely elegant and aesthetically pleasing, enhanced by the romantic, beautiful settings and locations.

The cast is superb, the acting exquisite. I am only disappointed by the choice of music.
