Patty and Richard reflect after having dinner at the apartment of Sally (Judy Carne, "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In") and Bob's (Ronnie Shell, "Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C."), their married friends who are a year older than them. Richard is afraid he and Patty will lose touch when they graduate and proposes. Patty accepts. She struggles to tell her parents and is shocked when they are encouraging and accepting. They, however, misunderstand and think she's talking about becoming a nurse. After the comical mixup, she can't bring herself to tell them. Richard can't find a way to tell his parents either. Patty dreams of a blissful life married with Richard. A talk with Sally gives Patty the reality of marriage. Her next dream of marriage with Richard is a comical nightmare. Richard's talk with Bob also gives him doubt. Patty and Richard now struggle to talk to one another.
