This week brought with it the news that DC are adding yet another movie onto their slate – Joe Manganiello will be starring as Slade Wilson in a Deathstroke solo film from director Gareth Evans. Since the announcement dropped, people have been working hard to come up with theories about what form the film might take and a new fan-made poster may have just nailed exactly what many would love to see.
From digital artist extraordinaire Boss Logic comes this mock one-sheet for Deathstroke, which imagines Manganiello’s anti-hero doing battle with Red Hood, with Supernatural‘s Jensen Ackles “cast” in the role of Batman’s former sidekick, Jason Todd. To show off Ackles’ face, the artist has done away with Red Hood’s distinctive helmet, but it still looks pretty damn awesome.

It’s been just over a month since Nintendo’s newest hybrid home console/handheld, the Switch, was released out into the wild, and on the whole, it’s been selling like Hyrulean hotcakes. Industry analyst Michael Pachter has gone so far as to predict that The Big N’s newest piece of hardware will outperform Microsoft’s 4K behemoth Scorpio console, which releases later this year, and has gone as far as saying that it will become the secondary console to purchase to complement your primary PS4/Xbox One system.
The Switch is a fantastic concept and after spending a lot of time with it, I too, am a believer. It’s been a while since I’ve picked up a piece of Nintendo hardware and been as enamoured with it as I have been with the Switch. It really is a beautiful and well-designed piece of tech and...

Comic Books 101: DC Comics-Reading Batman Pt 2
Previously I wrote an article helping new readers figure out the best places to pick up Batman from DC Comics . For those confused or still uncertain about major events in DC Comics (which connect to various “jumping on” points for Batman) I wrote an article detailing the big company altering stories in my history of the DC Universe article. This time around I am going to open up a bit more on the adventures of The Dark Knight, and take a look at some of the bigger, and in my opinion, best stories for potential Batman readers. This will include small and big story lines that exist in various continuities within the DC Comics publication history for the character. There won’t be any set “this is better than that” to the stories listed, simply moments in the characters publication where a...

Ahead of Comic Con later this week, Warner Bros. Pictures has teased their presentation on Saturday with a "Lego Batman Movie" 15-second clip which you can see below. The Caped Crusader, both in his Lego and likely his live-action Ben Affleck form, will take over Hall H that morning. "The Lego Batman Movie" is slated to open in February.
Meanwhile a new rumor has popped up about the Affleck-directed solo "Batman" film currently in development. Reports initially indicated the "Under the Hood" storyline was being adapted, then ditched in favor of something more ambitious.
Batman-On-Film has caught wind of what that more ambitious idea might be - the rumor being that the film will primarily take place within the walls of Arkham Asylum with Batman locked in, but it will be an original story and Not a direct adaptation of the acclaimed "Batman: Arkham Asylum" comic.

Regardless of the weaknesses of Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman, I really enjoyed Ben Affleck's version of the Dark Knight, and I'm excited to see what he ends up doing with the solo film that he's currently developing with Geoff Johns. Affleck reportedly has full creative control, which gives me hope that we'll get an awesome new Batman film.
We've heard rumors that the movie could explore the tragic past of Jason Todd's Robin taking cues from comic book story arcs such as Death in the Family and Under the Hood. None of this has been confirmed, but during an interview with CosmicBookNews, Affleck revealed that his movie will mostly tell an original story to keep fans guessing. He explained:

There's been a lot of rumours from both fans and publications about Ben Affleck's (currently untitled) Batman solo film and what it might adapt from the comics. One of the more notable rumours was the "Under The Hood" storyline, considering we see Jason Todd's Robin suit in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice. However, according to the actor, who is also directing and co-writing the film with Geoff Johns, he plans to put an original spin on the film's story. "I think what I would do, what I probably would do, is in some ways what Zack did with this movie, which is to borrow certain things from the great comic books, but create an original story around it because I wouldn't want the fans to already know the story and be familiar, but I would borrow, steal, great things that have been done before in the comics.

I am a big fan of how Ben Affleck's Batman turned out in Dawn of Justice. He is a completely badass version of the character, and I'm extremely excited to see what Affleck does with the hero in the solo film he's currently developing. It was recently revealed that the actor/director will have full creative control of the film, which I think is a great thing.

Ben Affleck's Batman continues to be shaped into the cornerstone of the building DC Extended Universe onscreen it seems. David Ayer's upcoming "Suicide Squad" film not only includes the Batman in character, but it seems all the members of the team will have had past encounters with the Gotham City protector before events of the movie kick off.
Speaking with Fandango about his role as Killer Croc, actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje discussed that relationship:

Surprisingly, Warner Bros. still hasn’t dated the long rumoured Batman movie starring and directed by Ben Affleck. It could be that both parties are waiting to see how well Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice does before committing to anything (Affleck doesn’t want another Daredevil after all), but rumours are already pointing to it being an adaptation of the classic “Under the Hood” storyline.
That comic featured the return of former Robin, Jason Todd, as a vigilante named the Red Hood, a name and look inspired by The Joker’s moniker before he was transformed into the Clown Prince of Crime. Jason was actually murdered by the villain, but returned years later hungry for vengeance against both him and Batman.

Up until now, it’s been widely assumed that the Robin murdered by The Joker before the events of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice was Jason Todd, just like in the comic books. However, there have been a lot of very interesting rumours (The Batman being an adaptation of “Under the Hood”) and crazy theories (Dick Grayson becoming the second Joker a la The Dark Knight Strikes Back) about Robin’s role in this world that have led to a lot of confusion.
Now we have a new report that may just clear things up. According to Latino-Review, the Robin whose costume is on display in the Batcave is indeed Jason’s, while Dick Grayson – the first youngster to hold that mantle as Batman’s sidekick – is going to be getting a mention in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice despite not making a physical appearance.

When Will Smith signed on for Suicide Squad to play Deadshot, he was apparently pretty excited about DC’s plans for their cinematic universe. So excited, in fact, that he agreed to show up multiple times as the character, instead of only just appearing in David Ayer’s 2016 film.
Of course, a potential Suicide Squad sequel would seem like the most probable place for Deadshot to appear again, but Latino Review is reporting that the actor could also show up in Ben Affleck’s solo Caped Crusader movie, The Batman.
The details aren’t clear just yet, but sources say Deadshot would have a major role in what’s being described as a “The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly” scenario. Essentially, the film would see the two characters teaming up, presumably to take down Red Hood and the Joker, as The Batman is said to an adaptation of the Under the Hood storyline.

Need for Speed ran the gamut of review scores earlier this month, but the audience called near-unanimous attention to one defect: the rubber-banding AI. Because a Dodge Challenger could overtake a Lamborghini Huracán the moment someone tapped its brakes, each race’s outcome only mattered during the last five checkpoints.
Flash forward three weeks. Ghost Games heard everyone’s complaints and will adjust the AI’s catch-up behavior soon. Like, Wednesday soon. Although the developers withheld specifics, perhaps players could, at long last, wreck their cars and not lose a half-mile lead before they reset. Granting sudden, aggravating speed boosts to the game’s rivals has been a staple of each Need for Speed, and I would be happy to see the “feature” go.
Ghost Games discussed further changes, too. In the team’s latest Under the Hood update, they highlighted community events, icon cars, rep increases, and typical bug fixes.

We’ve got a very interesting Bat-related rumor for you guys here on this quiet Friday. Ever since fans found out the titular Arkham Knight wasn’t actually referring to Batman (and instead was a ‘brand new’ villain created by Rocksteady Studios to better him), they’ve been picking apart everything possible trying to find out who’s underneath the mask.
Theories range from the long-deceased Joker – who after biting the bullet in Arkham City has been fairly active post-mortem in the tie-in comics – to more ‘out there’ ideas like the Knight being an advanced A.I., Bruce’s (supposedly dead) father, a clone, or a figment of his imagination.
The latest development worth covering is the more up-close shot of Jason Todd (the Red Hood)’s action figure, where you can clearly draw some comparisons between the face armour of both his new suit, and that of the Knight.
For anyone not not up to date on their Bat-mythos, Todd was the...

The latest development worth covering is the more up-close shot of Jason Todd (the Red Hood)’s action figure, where you can clearly draw some comparisons between the face armour of both his new suit, and that of the Knight.
For anyone not not up to date on their Bat-mythos, Todd was the...

The latest DC Cinematic Universe rumor to come from Latino Review’s El Mayimbe is an exciting one, as it opens the possibility for a fan-favorite character and Batman story arc to be adapted on screen, and hints that an up-and-coming directing duo might join the ranks of Warner Brothers’ DC team.
Early Tuesday morning, Mayimbe took to Instagram to drop this little nugget of info for DC fans:
Rt! #DC #Rumor #BatmanvSupermanDawnofJustice Jason Todd’s uniform is in a display case inside the Batcave! In fact, The Joker & Harley Quinn are estranged in Suicide Squad because she feels guilt over the death of Todd. I’m also told that the Red Hood is now a priority character for DC. One more thing, John Wick directors Chad Stahelski & David Leith being courted to direct DC film! #dccu #dcmovie #batmanvsuperman #suicidesquad #skwad #dccomics #TheJoker #harleyquinn #jasontodd #redhood #ChadStahelski #DavidLeitch

Banshee, Season 3: Episode 10 – “We All Pay Eventually”
Written by Jennifer Ames & Steve Turner
Directed by Loni Peristere
Returns to Cinemax in 2016 for a fourth season
In all of the craziness that is “We All Pay Eventually,” Banshee displays its growth over three gripping years by giving two supporting characters the chance to verbalize the heart of the episode, season and series thus far:
“I am guys like that…I will always be that man…I am doing everything I can to change. And every once in a while, I manage to convince myself that I’m a better person.”
And when Bunker gets so angry, Brock shows him what that really is:
“That isn’t anger that you’re feeling. That’s the shame and guilt…That is what makes you better than them. If you didn’t feel that, that’s when I’d start to worry.”

‘Les Loups’ is the first great Quebec film of 2015
The dark unforgiving waters of the Atlantic Ocean and the mouth of the St. Lawrence river provide the backdrop to Les Loups, a beautifully crafted melodrama. Set in a small island Quebec town during the spring thaw, a stranger arrives during the height of the controversial seal hunts. Vibrant and mysterious, many suspect that Elie, the young woman from Montreal, is not who she says and is likely a reporter or an activist bent on portraying the townsfolk in a bad light… read the full article.

It’s an odd-numbered episode of Banshee‘s third season, so that means something special. In this case, it’s an insane heist sequence that, again, probably belongs on the big screen more than the small one. That said, co-hosts Les Chappell and Sean Colletti are glad to get action this good on television and have brought in critic Cory Barker from tv.com to help dissect “You Can’t Hide from the Dead,” which also features some excellent character work and potentially big plot developments. Better late than never! Under the Hood is back, and if listeners ever needed a break to digest an episode, this was it. There is too much to talk about regarding “Tribal,” but co-hosts Les Chappell and Sean Colletti are aided here by Kate Kulzick (Sound On Sight, The Av Club) to break down Banshee‘s most gripping episode to date. Bidding adieu to a well-liked character is never easy, but expect discussions of technicality and form alongside all the insane plotting of “Tribal,” in addition to giving it the “Banshee in Action” treatment, which seems a bit redundant this week. Film ‘Jupiter Ascending’ rises to absurd and hilarious heights
That sound you’re hearing is a massive sigh of relief from David Lynch. He no longer holds the dubious distinction of producing the most expensive B-movie in the history of Hollywood. That honor now belongs to The Wachowskis, whose Jupiter Ascending has officially displacedDune at the top (or bottom) of the heap. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, however. Jupiter Ascending not only looks spectacular, it’s a laugh riot. Ridiculous dialogue, hammy performances, and enough mythology to baffle Zeus make this disaster a must-see for all lovers of cheese… read the full article.

Banshee, Season 3: Episode 5 – “Tribal”
Written by Adam Targum
Directed by Oc Madsen
Airs Friday nights at 10 on Cinemax
If it’s worth quoting, it’s worth quoting twice:
“I don’t know if anyone ever changes, really. But we can evolve, right? I mean, that’s what we’re trying to do, isn’t it? Just become better versions of ourselves?”
- Deputy Siobhan Kelly
When it comes to episodic television, no one expects any show to simply be the best. If such objectivity existed, there would be no point in watching anything but the single best series out there. Everything else would be a waste of time, because energy would be spent on an inferior product. But that’s not how these things work. Every viewer has different tastes than the next. Some don’t like Banshee. Some absolutely love it. Instead of expecting or hoping a show...

Banshee, Season 3: Episode 4 – “Real Life is the Nightmare”
Written by Justin Britt-Gibson
Directed by Magnus Martens
Airs Friday nights at 10 on Cinemax
Considering the ending of this episode and last week’s unfathomably entertaining Banshee entry, “Real Life is the Nightmare” has the misfortune of being sandwiched between television that redefines high adrenaline. Instead, what we get–among several other things–is a quieter meditation on parenting that shows some of the difficulties that Carrie, Gordon and Hood have either had to overcome or are currently trying to overcome.
There’s an easy dichotomy to point out between the way that Gordon is seen literally running and Carrie spends much of the episode figuratively running. “We need to do better,” Gordon tells Carrie. But whereas the Gordon of a few weeks ago would be saying those words out of frustration (or straight-up aimed at Carrie and worded as “You...

Under the Hood is back, and there’s just no way to introduce this episode while doing it justice. Co-hosts Les Chappell and Sean Colletti try their best, though, by bringing in prolific television critic Randy Dankievitch to talk about “A Fixer of Sorts,” an early contender for the year’s best in TV. There is some discussion of how pain can motivate these characters, where karma fits into Banshee and, of course, that truly epic fight between Nola and Burton, which gets an extra special “Banshee in Action” treatment. Is this really only the third episode? Where does Banshee take its third season from here? All this and more in this podcast. Banshee, Season 3: Episode 3 – “A Fixer of Sorts”
Written by Justin Britt-Gibson
Directed by Magnus Martens
Airs Friday nights at 10 on Cinemax
“A Fixer of Sorts” is, to be clear, one of the best episodes of Banshee and a firm testament to the show’s deserved place among the best current TV has to offer as a medium of entertainment. There’s a laundry list of evidence to back that up here, and it’s all thoroughly convincing in my mind. Most people will surely point towards the surprisingly early fight scene between Burton and Nola, which…well, how would you put it? It’s certainly the best fight scene in any Banshee episode to date. It’s certainly the best fight scene in any episode of television to air this year. It’s maybe the best fight scene to air in an episode of television period (at the very least,...

Banshee, Season 3: Episode 2 – “Snakes and Whatnot”
Written by Halley Gross
Directed by Loni Peristere
Airs Friday nights at 10 on Cinemax
If last week’s season three premiere suggested the importance of legacy in Banshee, “Snakes and Whatnot” is the companion piece that shows how one’s legacy can be controlled by perception. It’s said that history is written by the victors, and several characters here–Rebecca, Chayton and Nola chief among them–want to make sure that they’re both taken seriously and come out on top.
Nola’s naturally callous demeanor, while one of her most entertaining qualities from a viewer’s perspective, made it hard to gauge how much she cared about her brother Alex. She was there offering curt advice when he was slipping up, but her return to Banshee shows how deep sibling love goes and how it’s easy to be taken for granted.

Welcome to the very first episode of Under the Hood, the newest entry into the Sound On Sight podcast family. Join co-hosts Les Chappell and Sean Colletti as they break down episodes of Cinemax’s Banshee week-to-week. Episode #1 takes a look at “The Fire Trials,” covering topics such as how the past tends to catch up with characters, definitions of heroes and antiheroes and, of course, some talk about bourbon and incest (both relevant to Banshee, mind you). So, too, begins the recurring segment “Banshee in Action,” in which time is taken to appreciate the incredible care that goes into making the series’ action sequences.
