Since 2009, Taylor Swift and Kanye West have been locked in one of the tensest battles in celebrity history. They mostly stayed out of each other’s ways after their first, infamous, televised moment together until a public reconciliation in 2015 made it seem like all of that was just water under the bridge. But who knew the worst was yet to come?
Things between Swift and West would not only worsen immensely in 2016, after West released his song “Famous,” but their web would soon entangle Kim Kardashian, Scooter Braun, and even Justin Bieber.

When I was a younger man, Conan O'Brien was the king of late night. I'm not talking in terms of ratings; I'm talking in terms of popularity among my peers. Jay Leno was boring and unfunny, Letterman was once great but had lost a step, and Conan was the absolute best. His style of humor, which leaned into the absurd, made his late-night talk show "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" worth staying up for.
While Conan flourished on his own talk show on NBC, in a timeslot that once belonged to Letterman before Letterman moved to CBS, there was one gig he coveted: hosting "The Tonight Show." Despite the presence of the hacky Jay Leno, "The Tonight Show" remained a storied institution; it was legendary, and Conan O'Brien very badly wanted to host it someday. And he did! You might have memory-holed this, or never learned it, but there was...

Comedian Jay Leno’s 30-year run of having a TV show on one of NBCUniversal’s TV channels appears to be ending.
A CNBC source tells The Hollywood Reporter that it has decided to cancel the reality show Jay Leno’s Garage, which has been a staple of its primetime lineup since 2015.
The cancellation comes amid a larger schedule shift at the channel, with its primetime hours to focus on reality reruns of Shark Tank and Undercover Boss, as well as original business documentaries.
Jay Leno’s Garage, which sees Leno showing off his enormous car collection and interviewing celebrity guests like President Biden and Elon Musk, also served as a landing pad for Leno when he left The Tonight Show in 2014.
Leno’s last Tonight Show episode was in February 2014, and CNBC ordered Jay Leno’s Garage just a few months later. It originally began as an NBC.com web series, and...

NBC is considering handing over its 10 p.m. primetime programming hour to local stations, Variety has confirmed.
Insiders say that this conversation has happened multiple times over the past 10 years, and emphasize this is not the first time the option of ceding time to affiliates has been discussed at the broadcaster. Instead, this is just the most recent in ongoing explorations and it could lead to no changes at all.
Additionally, sources say NBCU is not mulling this as a cost-cutting move that would lead to less programming, but one that might be made to best utilize the broadcast brand and relationship with affiliates vs. its streaming and cable options.
It’s important to note that new speculation surrounding a 10 p.m. hour change, which comes just ahead of NBC launching its fall lineup Sept. 19, does not impact any new and returning series airing during that time period, at least for now.

NBC’s 10 pm programming block may soon become must-flee TV.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the network may stop programming the 10-11 pm hour, potentially giving those seven hours to local TV stations. The idea — which could take effect as early as Fall 2023 — is reportedly being considered as a way to cut costs amid declining linear ratings.

NBC is considering shrinking the network’s primetime footprint.
According to a Wall Street Journal report, the broadcaster has had early talks about turning the 10 p.m. Et hour back over to affiliates. Nothing is decided yet, as the matter hasn’t come up for formal discussion with its affiliate board.
Such a move would shrink NBC’s primetime footprint by seven hours per week during much of the year (it would likely not affect the network’s NFL franchise, Sunday Night Football, which regularly runs past 11 p.m. Et in the fall, or any other primetime sports packages). It would also save the network money in a time when broadcast ratings have been steadily declining while media companies, including NBCUniversal and its parent, Comcast, go all in on streaming properties.

Jay Leno is once again addressing the long-running controversy surrounding “The Tonight Show” hosting gig over a decade ago when Conan O’Brien got the boot after just one season.
During a recent episode of Bill Maher’s “Club Random” podcast, Leno denied that he “deliberately sabotaged” the NBC late-night talk show after O’Brien took over in 2009 following Leno’s departure to lead “The Jay Leno Show” at the 10 p.m. time slot at the same network. He later returned as “The Tonight Show” host in 2010, prompting O’Brien to part ways with NBC and instead develop a new show, “Conan,” at TBS.
“That doesn’t work,” Leno stated of any pre-meditated plans to overhaul O’Brien. “It doesn’t work that way. You try and do the best you can and it didn’t work.”
As for why Leno opted to stay at NBC for his own short-lived talk show,...

The late-night drama involving Jay Leno is still being discussed.
Leno stopped by Bill Maher’s Club Random podcast and his old friend brought up the controversy surrounding his exit from The Tonight Show.
Leno left The Tonight Show in May 2009 and was replaced by Conan O’Brien, a deal that had been five years in the making, and Leno moved to 10pm with The Jay Leno Show.
However, neither show performed well in the ratings and after a lot of back and forth O’Brien left and Leno returned to The Tonight Show until 2014.
Speaking to Maher, Leno said it was never his intention to “deliberately sabotage” The Tonight Show hosted by O’Brien, an accusation that has been made. “It doesn’t work that way. You’re trying to do the best you can,” he said.
Asked why he stayed at NBC rather than moving to another network, Leno said,...

The next era of Avril Lavigne music appears to be coming in the near future.
The Canadian pop singer has been in the studio all throughout this year writing songs, and she has even been working with her estranged husband, Nickelback frontman Chad Kroger.
It seems as though now there’s a little more activity, and new music may actually be coming into fruition. In a Facebook post from Rodney Howard, Lavigne’s drummer, he shared a throwback video clip of their performance of “Here’s To Never Growing Up” on the The Jay Leno Show with the caption, “Looks like the Disco Ball drums are gonna be coming back out for some September/October action.”
Whether that means that he’ll be recording for Lavigne music come September/October or perhaps playing shows that will be supporting a new album, it looks like major news isn’t too far away.

When NBC handed David Letterman Late Night in 1982, his offbeat humor ushered in a new era of late night.
Thirty-three years later, he's stepping down from a late-night landscape that changed around him, having stayed true to himself as the medium changed from appointment viewing to something to be easily digested the next morning in three- to four-minute clips.
"I recognized the value of it," Letterman told The New York Times back in April of his competitors' tendency to gear their shows toward digital audiences. "It's just, I didn't know what to say. You go back to your parents' house,...

Jon Secada, who writes about the hardships he faced breaking into the music industry in his book Secada: A New Day, reveals that Don Johnson still owes him an unpaid debt from decades ago.
Jon Secada Says Don Johnson Owes Him Money
Back in the 80s, before Secada went on to become a Grammy-winning singer and songwriter, he was a struggling artist. To make money on the side, he’d coach for an hourly rate. One of his clients in those early days was Miami Vice star Don Johnson.
"We got the call by somebody that was working with Don Johnson," Secada told uInterview exclusively. "He was doing a duet in Spanish. They needed someone to coach him though the song. He was doing the duet with a really well known Mexican singer. I got the job. I got the call. I did the job, and I helped him with the song.

Fact #1: Jay Leno has been the most popular late night host in America for the majority of the past 19 years.
Fact #2: Comedians, Hollywood insiders, and laypeople alike just love hating on Leno, and have been doing so consistently for over 20 years.
Why? In their minds, the reasons are legion: Because he stole The Tonight Show from Johnny Carson’s rightful heir, David Letterman, way back in the early ’90s. Because he refused to simply retire when NBC tried to replace him with Conan O’Brien in 2009. Because his primetime Jay Leno Show tanked, sinking Conan’s Tonight Show...

Jay Leno says farewell – again – to the Tonight Show desk on February 6, just four years after returning to the NBC show after the network booted him in favor of Conan O’Brien. “First time, I got blindsided,” Leno told 60 Minutes in an exit interview airing Sunday. The network gave him notice in 2004 that he’d be out after another four years. “‘You’re fired four years from right now,’” he recalled being told. “I said, ‘Sure.’ I said at the time I was going to do a half hour. And I believe Conan was going to follow later. He didn’t want to do that. He quit. And so they gave me the show back.” After a disastrous run on primetime in 2009 with The Jay Leno Show, NBC gave Leno back the Tonight Show chair. Last April they announced they were ousting Leno again in favor of the younger Jimmy Fallon.

This end to "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" is looking a lot different than the last end of "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno."
When NBC approached the end of Leno's first run on "Tonight" in 2009, Leno made a lot of noise about how he wasn't all that interested in leaving, NBC got scared he would jump to a rival network, and viewers had to suffer "The Jay Leno Show" debacle and the aborted Conan O'Brien tenure on "Tonight."
This time, though? Everyone seems at peace with the decision, and on Sunday (Jan. 19), NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt had many kind words for Leno.
"This network has been incredibly fortunate to have had a talent like Jay on our team since 1992," Greenblatt says. "He's kept 'The Tonight Show' No. 1 for virtually its entire run. He's been a fixture at this company and in people's bedrooms for more than two decades.

There's a telling quote from NBCUniversal CEO Steve Burke in the announcement Wednesday (April 3) that Jay Leno will hand over the reins of "The Tonight Show" to Jimmy Fallon next year.
"We are purposefully making this change when Jay is No. 1, just as Jay replaced Johnny Carson when he was No. 1," Burke says in a statement.
That was also the plan four years ago -- or nine years ago, when NBC first announced its five-year plan to have Conan O'Brien replace Leno on "Tonight" in 2009. Leno was going to go out on top, and O'Brien would be the new steward of a show and a legacy he revered.
Of course, it didn't work out that way. NBC, fearful that Leno would jump to another network and damage one part of its business that was actually working pretty well, gave him a prime-time show. "The Jay Leno Show" managed both to...

Could Jay Leno head to Fox if he is replaced by Jimmy Fallon as the "Tonight Show" host next year?
The New York Post reports that Fox affiliates are strongly in favor of giving Leno an 11 p.m. talk show if and when he exits NBC. Steve Pruett, the chairman of Fox's affiliate board, told the Post that Leno's ratings success on NBC would make him a natural choice to headline late night programming on Fox stations across the country.
However, convincing the Fox network to sign Leno may be a tougher sell than convincing the affiliates. While nothing is confirmed yet, NBC's reported plan to move Leno aside in favor of Fallon is based on the projected value of Fallon's ability to attract a younger audience for years to come. Similarly, Fox attracts a younger viewership, and signing the 62-year-old Leno could be risky, despite his history of strong...

I'm continuing to feel optimistic about this adaptation, even if the heroine is named Iris (Iris?) and her background doesn't exactly sound like Themyscira.
Did anyone watch and enjoy Call the Midwife? I don't mean that sarcastically, I never had the time to check it out. For you fans, the BBC announced there's a second season and a Christmas special in the works.
CNN has named former NBC chief Jeff Zucker — who's largely remembered as the man who took NBC from Friends to The Jay Leno Show — as president of the troubled news channel. The development has inspired speculation and suggestions on how...

Jimmy Kimmel might just be David Letterman’s biggest fan.
“I’d draw Dave’s face on every book cover. I was like a teenage girl in love with him,” Kimmel told The Hollywood Reporter, speaking of his childhood admiration for the late-night host. Well, now that infatuation has finally come to fruition – Letterman has agreed to appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Kimmel’s own late-night talk show will broadcast from the Brooklyn Academy of Music from Oct. 29 to Nov. 2, and Letterman – who turned down an invitation to be Kimmel’s first guest – will join Stephen Colbert, John Stewart, and others opposite Kimmel.

It was the first show back after the story broke that there were staff cuts and Jay Leno took a pay cut on "The Tonight Show" (Weeknights, 11 p.m. Et on NBC), so of course he was going to crack jokes about it. In the jokes, he seemed to be laying most of the blame for it on parent company Comcast.
"We’ve consistently been number one in the ratings and, if you know anything about our network, that kind of thing is frowned upon," he said.
Leno can joke all he wants, but The La Times says this is actually his doing. Leno was still producing "The Tonight Show" on the larger budget he'd been granted for his ill-fated foray into prime time with "The Jay Leno Show."
Still, fans were certainly enjoying Leno's ability to poke fun at the behind-the-scenes drama unfolding on his show. Tune in every weeknight at 11 p.

Comedian Jay Leno is 62!
Leno has been dominating late night television for two decades, In 1992, he became the host of NBC’s “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.” The show, originally hosted by Johnny Carson, featured Leno as a guest host from 1987 until 1992, the year he took over.
In the fall of 2009, Leno launched a talk show in primetime ("The Jay Leno Show"), which aired weeknights at 10:00 p.m. Est on NBC. It was canceled in January 2010, and Leno returned to host The Tonight Show shortly thereafter, resulting in the controversial ouster of Conan O'Brien.
Leno’s career began with stand-up comedy, making occasional appearances on television shows like “The Drew Carey Show” and movies like “American Hot Wax.” The comedian still performs standup comedy shows.

Let's call it a brand-new O'Day!
Despite her weekly serving of kickass as one of the strongest players on this season of "Celebrity Apprentice," Aubrey O'Day has forged ahead with her musical comeback by releasing a brand-new single, "Wrecking Ball," on Monday (April 23). Straying away from the slick Pop&B she delivered with Danity Kane and even songs heard in her "All About Aubrey" reality show, "Wrecking Ball" treads waters that Miss O'Day has never ventured before, most notably highlighting her vocal talents.
Trading in her stilettos and hairflips in favor of some touching runs about heartbreak, the mid-tempo "Wrecking Ball" finds Aubrey channeling her inner Kelly Clarkson as she reflects on a seemingly picture-perfect relationship that she's left behind. Co-produced and co-written by David Hodges, Steven Miller and "American Idol's" own Pia Toscano, the breezy song sounds like something that'd fit comfortably with mainstream radio criteria,...

So many congratulations are in order for Josh Lucas. E! News confirms that the Sweet Home Alabama star got married to his girlfriend Jessica in a super secret ceremony over the weekend. And that's not all, she's also expecting their first child! The couple are known to be low-key so we weren't too surprised about them choosing to keep their wedding hush-hush. Lucas proposed to his new wife in January after an encounter with a mountain lion while shooting a movie in Big Sur. "That night, I then go home at 4 o'clock in the morning and realize I don't have a flashlight," Lucas shared on The Jay Leno Show. "And as I'm going up, I get to the point where I realize I...

Looks like the ongoing Jimmy Kimmel/Jay Leno feud has escalated.
Last Thursday, Leno offered some Valentine's Day gift ideas on "The Tonight Show," and one of the gags was a blanket made up of celebrity hairpieces. "There's even a Jimmy Kimmel! It's still got the black dye on it!"
Kimmel seemed mostly amused that Leno considers Kimmel such a threat that he'd go out of his way to make the joke. Kimmel even replays Leno's clip in slow motion to mock the "look what I did, ma!" grin that Leno bears when finishing the bit.
Of course, Kimmel and Leno's history, full of camaraderie and conflict, goes back far. According to Bill Carter's "The War For Late Night," they became friendly during the WGA Writer's Strike, when both their shows were off the air. However, the friendship was not permanent. Kimmel made headlines in 2010 during the Conan/Leno "Tonight Show" fiasco,...

Chicago – There have been a number of casualties of the debacle of “The Jay Leno Show” but one has to believe that were NBC not in such dire straits when it comes to ratings (an increasingly depressing situation for the network with new lows nearly every week) that “Chuck” would have been canceled years ago. The program has been on “bubble watch” since its first season, when it dipped below 60th place in the weekly ratings. And yet here we are, reviewing the fifth-season premiere of the show that simply wouldn’t die.
Television Rating: 3.0/5.0
After another round of “They haven’t canceled Chuck yet?” this Spring, NBC announced that they were bringing the program back for a fifth season and final season. Fans can look at it as a victory lap, closure on the show they’ve loved since its acclaimed premiere in the Fall of 2007. Detractors can point...

Chicago – NBC continues to be a network in ratings freefall (pretty much since “The Jay Leno Show” debacle) as they can now lay claim to not only the first show canceled in the Fall 2011 season (after axing “The Playboy Club” earlier this week) but the second as well. It was reported this afternoon that after last night’s anemic numbers for the third episode of “Free Agents,” a fourth episode won’t see the air.
The Hank Azaria sitcom was dead on arrival, drawing only a 1.0 in the key 18-49 rating last night (compared to the 2.2 rating in the same demo for its hour-mate “Up All Night,” which was just given a full-season order). It was only a matter of time but some thought that the network might give it a little more leeway while they figured out how to fill the time slot. Wondering what’s going to happen there?...

Chicago – You may assume from that title that I’m referring to the “other half” of Conan O’Brien’s story being that of Jay Leno and his involvement in the debacle surrounding “The Tonight Show” but I could care less what Leno has to say. Or anyone at NBC. No, this hardcore Team Coco member was surprised by how much of the acclaimed new doc about O’Brien, recently released on DVD, was about his tour and how little was about what the man has gone through in the last couple years. It’s a good doc about how to come out of a tough situation without really telling us enough about how O’Brien got there in the first place.
DVD Rating: 3.0/5.0
I honestly don’t understand anyone who sides with Jay Leno in the NBC nightmare. The man voluntarily gave over his spot on “The Tonight Show...

And we thought The Jay Leno Show was the scariest thing to happen to late night. Less than a week after an investigation was launched into a comment from an online jihadist calling for David Letterman’s assassination, an envelope full of a mysterious white powder was sent to The Late Late Show. As host Craig Ferguson wrote on his Twitter Tuesday: “Ack!Someone mailed my show white powder & claimed it was anthrax. I’m not a big fan of that sort of thing.”
Luckily, after authorities were called to the set, it was determined that the substance was harmless...

Kenton Duty may only be 16 years old, but this talented (and adorable) actor is wise way beyond his years. Kenton plays the foreign exchange student, Gunther, on the record-breaking Disney original series, Shake It Up. He's also appeared on Cold Case and The Jay Leno Show. Oh, and you also probably recognize him from his very prominent recurring role as young Jacob on Lost. Yeah, him! I had the pleasure of chatting with Kenton all about Shake It Up, his costars, his music and why he'd like to see a Shake It Up movie just as much as the fans. As you will read, this was less of an interview and more like a chat with a friend. Such a nice guy! Read on for our full interview!

Chicago – Loyal readers of HollywoodChicago.com will know that this TV critic is a Huge fan of TNT’s “Southland,” the best cop drama currently on television and one of the best dramas, period. How anyone at NBC let this stellar program go will remain one of the great TV mysteries of the new millennium. Its unusual second season has recently been released by Warner Archive along with a program forty-five years its elder in “The F.B.I.”
DVD Rating: 3.5/5.0
“Southland” was a bubble program after its first year on NBC as it had yet to quite find a loyal audience and the network was in a bit of upheaval around the decision to give five hours a week to “The Jay Leno Show.” The network sent a clear signal — quality writing wasn’t as important as a talk show. But they renewed “Southland” and so maybe there was still hope.

Salt Lake City wants to put a black wrapper on NBC’s new drama series The Playboy Club.
The NBC affiliate in Utah announced on its Web site that it won’t air the new drama series this fall. The decision “is based on the station’s long-term policy to screen programming for material which significant portions of our audience may find objectionable.”
The station’s president and CEO Mark Willes said Playboy is not a match for the station’s brand. “The Playboy brand is known internationally. Everyone is clear what it stands for,” he said in a statement.

Jim Carrey gave fans a first look at his art skills during an appearance on late night TV in America on Thursday when he previewed huge prints he hopes to "reveal" soon.
The Dumb & Dumber star has discovered a passion for painting and has created a series of masterpieces in his New York studio.
He showed off two of his most recent pieces while talking about his love for art on The Jay Leno Show, revealing he often paints himself in character to help his acting process.
Carrey said, "I'm in heaven, truly in the womb, when I'm doing it. It's physically taxing and a really, really intense process.
"Every character I do on the painting, I'll put a different type of music on; sometimes I'll rave out."
And he showed one photo of a black light painting, in which he posed with Ultra Violet make-up all over his face.
Asked if he was worried about what art critics would make of his creations, he joked, "I'm not worried about critics after (panned film) Ace Ventura."...

Chicago – A week from today - May 16, 2011 - the TV networks will begin the annual unveiling of their fall schedules, and a very-hazy picture will be much clearer by the end of next week. There will be a few miracles, but some hearts will surely be broken. With more programs on the bubble than ever before, what will be renewed and what will be shown the door? Let us guide the way with our fearless predictions, network by network.
NBC (May 16th, 2011):
Chuck

Bubble Shows: “Chuck,” “Harry’s Law,” “Law & Order: Los Angeles,” “Outsourced,” & “Parenthood”
The peacock has been one of the most troubled networks for years, a situation deepened by the notorious “The Jay Leno Show” debacle, so it seems appropriate that they’re pushing out of the gate first to reveal what, I expect, will be the most overhauled schedule of the fall season.

Aaron Eckhart is on a mission to become a top survival expert after learning how to fend for himself in the wild.
The Dark Knight star recently took a course in wilderness survival in Montana and now he aims to get stranded on one of the state's highest peaks in winter - to see if he's got what it takes to survive on nothing but his instincts.
He says, "The point is that you're able to go into the wilderness with nothing, not a knife... and you're supposed to come out 10 pounds heavier.
"I learned how to build shelters, build fires... The ultimate goal is to go in the mountains of Montana with nothing for four days.
"You've gained your own clothes, your shelter, you've made fire and food, and you're happy in the dead on winter."
Eckhart showed off what he has learned so far during an appearance on The Jay Leno Show on Friday night as he attempted to make fire by rubbing sticks together. He failed, but managed to get his wood smoking in the process.

Show addresses underage drinking in latest episode.

The cast of "Glee" has not only covered a wide array of songs in their two seasons on the air, but some pretty varied topics about teenage life.
From gay rights to coping with death, the show has typically addressed these issues in song. But there's one subject that almost every high-schooler has experienced in one way or another that "Glee" has all but ignored until now: underage drinking.
In Tuesday's (February 22) aptly titled "Blame It on the Alcohol" episode, some of the kids of McKinley High partook of libations, causing them to get tipsy and, in turn, make bad decisions. Cue the very song that inspired the name of the episode, Jamie Foxx's smash hit "Blame It (on the Alcohol)."

Madonna never sent any approval letter to Lady GaGa concerning "Born This Way" which has similarities to her singles, her rep told CNN. Contrary to what the Mother Monster said on "The Jay Leno Show" earlier this week, the Material Girl insisted she is oblivious to the email GaGa claimed she has received.
Back to GaGa's chat with Jay Leno about the single, the singer didn't bother to deny the similarities and revealed about Madonna's support. "There is really no one that is a more adoring and loving Madonna fan than me. I am the hugest fan personally and professionally," she said. Chicago – David E. Kelley (“The Practice,” “Boston Legal”) is a fantastic TV writer. Kathy Bates (“Misery,” “About Schmidt”) is a versatile actress. Neither of these statements would seem true if the only thing one saw of their work was their collaboration on NBC’s abysmal “Harry’s Law,” a legal drama with almost no redeeming value that is likely to be canceled before the Spring. NBC has struggled on Mondays for a few years now. That’s not about to change.

Here's a look back at Back Stage's top 10 memories:10. Undead DAYTIMEBack in 2009—when the daytime-drama format looked to be going the way of the wild polar bear—American Federation of Television and Radio Artists New York local president Holter Graham sounded a mournful note about the format's future. "The writing was on the wall about daytime and that it was a changing market a long time ago," Graham said. "The economic crisis given to us by the Bush administration sped up that process and made that writing on the wall bright yellow highlighter."That highlighter ink didn't wash away in 2010, but it faded a little. In 2009, CBS announced that its long-running soaps "Guiding Light" and "As the World Turns" would come to an end. This year no such similar announcement came, the networks instead making multiyear commitments to dramas such as "The Young and the Restless" and "Days of Our Lives.

She said, "I have some Garrett's popcorn, this is the best, they make caramel corn cheese mix. I can polish off that (tub) in one movie, you have to take a caramel and a cheese together, it's a mix - it's orgasmic."
Leno replied, "It's orgasmic?" before pouring the tasty treat into her cupped hands, as Berry noisily faked a climax. Before the situation got too steamy, Leno cut the show for commercial break while continue eating the popcorn.
