Where Can I Get My Seven Minutes Back?
einsteinfile28 February 2022
Tru Romance was all over the place. The story started off to a good start. It's only under ten minutes run-time. But, after about three minutes (!), it became a complete mess. That sure is some accomplishment. The actress playing Kayla really was out of her league. Perhaps, if she "acted" a little less, then maybe - that's big "maybe" - she could have pulled it off. Thankfully, it was only seven minutes in length. I would have been better served had I watched an infomercial. Oh, well.

Tru satire ( and a think piece) for the online dating universe
frankmarangiello4 March 2021
Sexual Consent is an incredibly wonderful and infinitely complex topic. All too often an audience is given view of it's failures and injustices (whether fiction or not) and not enough highlighting what consent actually looks likes. Some attempts oversimplify the act of "asking" for consent as a license or permission rather than something relational on an emotional and physical level.

What I like about this short in its comedic and satirical style it cycles through some of the muddled areas of consent through taking us on three separate dates with the same person, Kayla, in the same bar. The variable are the guys (Kayla is presumably heterosexual) who kind of resemble personified reactions to the idea of consent. I appreciate the filmmakers nuances there and look forward to seeing more characters they write.

Extra star for any and all who can relate to social awkwardness, appreciates alternative romance/dating narratives, and enjoys satire and campiness.
