~The Mombies are coming!!!~ Okay so this is a vaguely horror comedy short that fully goes with the notion that all mothers and all motherhood will sap your soul and turn you into a pram-pushing happy 'zombie!' I guess that could be kind of offensive to some pro-mom ladies out there, but who the hell cares, as the idea is clever and they really mine every last bit of hilarious narrative and complexity out of a very slight but very funny angle. I say the horror is vague because it feels more sci-fi than horror, more Invasion of the Body Snatchers than Night of the Living Dead, although it still certainly does work as a loving homage/spoof of the cult 1968 classic, especially that cemetery which I could swear is the very one from the original movie! It begins with two free-spirited 'neo' type gals driving into a beautifully spooky cemetery, yakking to one another about how they're both never going to succumb to the dreaded curse of motherhood - and then the car typically breaks down and they soon find themselves surrounded by cheerful mothers with their babies which somehow do come off as hilariously creepy, they flee the vehicle in abject terror and just one of them gets away...or does she? The ending to it is great, I love the eerie renditions of London Bridge is Falling Down and Rock a bye Baby! Terrifically fun and witty horror comedy short. Top job, what a lovely way to kill eleven minutes. See ya!
