Somehow between the heat, BBQ and wealth of choices at SXSW, we didn’t manage to catch “My Blind Brother,” even though it stars three of our favorite funny people, namely Nick Kroll, Adam Scott, and Jenny Slate (along with the always terrific Zoe Kazan in a supporting role). The film is opening next month and we’ll have […]

We’ve got questions, and you’ve (maybe) got answers! With another week of TV gone by, we’re lobbing queries left and right about shows including The Night Of, Preacher, Zoo and Mr. Robot!
1 | Boy/Girl Meets World fans, given the parallels between Cory and Riley’s experiences at Mount Sun Lodge, was there ever any doubt this wannabe sherpa was Lauren’s son?
2 | Was it any surprise — any surprise at all — that the fiancé on Killjoys turned out to be a bad guy? Also, how good were Luke Macfarlane/D’Av and Rob Stewart/Khylen at swapping characters?...

ABC premiered another late edition to their Wednesday comedy lineup with "Family Tools." Kyle Bornheimer portrays Jack Shea, a bumbling doofus with a good heart who returns home to take over his father's handyman business. J.K. Simmons is as crusty as ever as Jack's dad, Tony, who isn't at all keen about his son taking over the family business. But by the end of this pilot, he'd already had two heart attacks, so it was pretty clear he needed to take a step back.
Leah Remini was the mastermind behind the whole thing as Tony's little sister, Terry. After Tony's second heart attack, Terry forces him to have a heart-to-heart with his son, but Tony is a man's man meaning he doesn't really know how to.
He admits he's tougher on Jack because Jack's his son. "Yeah, that’s it. That’s all I got!" Tony said. "I’m not a shrink,...

For some unknown reason, network TV executives are convinced that Kyle Bornheimer is destined to be a huge sitcom star. In 2008 he starred in CBS' Worst Week (cancelled after 16 episodes). In 2010 he starred in ABC's Romantically Challenged (cancelled after four episodes). And in 2011, he starred in NBC's Perfect Couples (cancelled after 11 episodes).
Now he's in ABC's new comedy Family Tools, premiering Wednesday, May 1 at 8:30pm. But surely this time he'll finally break through, right?...

ABC‘s slate of new shows for fall has a strange flavor to it, and it’s going to be a bumpy ride. The network has about as many new shows as returning ones (if you count all the midseasons), and a good percentage of the returning offerings are a year old or less, making this look a bit like a rebuilding year.
Not only is it a rebuilding year, but it’s the year of bringing back every actor and actress who ever had a decent run on a show before. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a network’s new season slate that was so crammed with people returning from something else. If you can’t make it good, I suppose, make sure viewers recognize the faces.

Why do "Bent" and leading man David Walton get no love?
In ensemble comedies, there's always one actor that manages to transform their character and inadvertently transcend the others -- even just a little. It's a totally subjective thing, but as far as I'm concerned, Monica Geller ("Friends"), Jack McFarland ("Will & Grace"), Brad Williams ("Happy Endings"), Ellie Torres ("Cougar Town") and Jay Pritchett ("Modern Family") could or can do no wrong, and they shine just a teensy bit brighter than the rest.
Aside from those characters, my new favourite is Pete Riggins, played to scene-stealing perfection by David Walton. Oh, David Walton. (If this was Twitter, the hashtag would be #swoon.) He isn't exactly sublime or particularly innovative with his performances (based on his latest series, "Bent," the criminally undervalued "Perfect Couples") and he was the one notable exception in the dismal "100 Questions." In fact, he's really a two-note pony...

Megan Mullally isn’t the only vivacious lady landing onto the cast of Breaking In. Get ready for more Alyssa Milano!
You read it here when it was announced that the funny Fox caper was back from the dead. Despite being canceled last May, the show is back and has snuggled into the Tuesday night time slot. Gone is Michael Rosenbaum, who I’m not ashamed to say was my favorite part of the show. I love you, too, Cash, but I’ve known Michael longer thanks to Smallville.
So, the question now is, do you remember Alyssa Milano’s character from before the cancellation? She was the slightly crazy estranged wife of Christian Slater‘s character, Oz. TV Line made the announcement that she’ll reprise that quirky role. That’s coming up for Episode 9 of this, the second season.
The former star of Who’s the Boss? has been a busy bee.

After the high profile and, what Hollywood execs like to call “high concept” shows of last week’s article, this week I will be going through new pilots which follow two trends I like to call “remaking is breaking” and “Desperate Housewives is over and Grey’s Anatomy has got to end sometime”.
Grey’s Anatomy and Desperate Housewives have been big ratings pulls in the coveted demographic (18-49 if you don’t know) for ABC and have meant big advertising bucks. And, even though Grey’s prolific creator Shonda Rhimes, who will be show running three to five shows next season depending on pickups, has claimed that Grey’s will move past eight seasons, there is a general sense that the show is on the decline and, coupled with the loss of Desperate Housewives at the end of the current season, there is a definite hole in the market.

Director Sofia Coppola has cast an unknown actor to portray the alleged ringleader of Hollywood's infamous 'Bling Ring' gang in a movie adaptation of the teenage burglars' exploits.
The Lost In Translation filmmaker's new project is based on the true story of a group of youths who stole from the Hollywood homes of stars including Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Orlando Bloom and Audrina Patridge in 2008 and 2009.
Harry Potter star Emma Watson has already signed on as one of the gang's key members, and now Coppola has added actor Israel Broussard to the film to play the part of Nicholas Prugo, who confessed to stealing designer clothing, jewellery and cash from the stars' homes.
Broussard has previously appeared on coming-of-age drama Flipped and U.S. TV comedy Romantically Challenged.
Knocked Up actress Leslie Mann and American Horror Story star Taissa Farmiga, the younger sister of Up In The Air's Vera, have also joined the cast, alongside acting newcomers Claire Pfister, Katie Chang and Georgia Rock, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Prugo struck a plea deal with prosecutors last week and will serve two years behind bars after pleading no contest to breaking into Lohan and Patridge's properties. In exchange, he must testify against three other people suspected of helping him steal from the stars.

Next month, a new sitcom called "Work It," about two out-of-work salesmen who dress up as women to get jobs, will make its debut on ABC. There's nothing new about the premise -- Tom Hanks and Peter Scolari covered the same ground on the early-80s sitcom "Bosom Buddies" -- and the tone isn't exactly novel either. The stars of the show, Ben Koldyke and Amaury Nolasco, are operating in the prevailing frat-boy mode perfected by Bradley Cooper and Seann William Scott.
In May, an 84-second trailer of "Work It" hit the Internet, instantly attracting more blogger rage than most shows accumulate over the course of several seasons. Gobsmacked by the very fact that "This got made! And is going to series!", The Futon Critic lambasted the show's "limp attempts at misogyny," "groan worthy madcappery" and "Mrs. Doubtfire hijinx."

Milano told "Extra" last year she gearing up for motherhood. "Probably because I have like four eggs left," the actress laughed. "I'm going to get on that soon. I think we'll probably start trying in the next year.

Exclusive: The always in-demand Kyle Bornheimer is set to co-star in Peter Tolan's comedy pilot for Fox Council of Dads. Inspired by Bruce Feiler's non-fiction book, the pilot, which is being directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, tells the story of Michael who, just before he dies, enlists five of his guy friends from all aspects of his life to become a “council of dads” to his two young children. Bornheimer will play the "fun dad" on the council, a childhood friend of Michael's who is loud and larger than life, funny though sometimes inappropriate. On the Sony TV-produced pilot, Bornheimer joins previously cast Diane Farr, Patrick Breen and Ken Howard. Bornheimer fielded several pilot offers before choosing to go with Council. Update 12/17: NBC has rethought its scheduling a little bit. "The Sing-Off" finale will stay at two hours, and the "Perfect Couples" preview will air at 10 p.m. Monday. An "Office" repeat will air at 10:30.
The original post is below.

NBC is expanding the season finale of "The Sing-Off" by a half-hour -- and hoping you stick around for a preview of one of its new shows after that.
The network will air an episode of its new comedy "Perfect Couples" at 10:30 p.m. Et on Monday (Dec. 20), following the crowning of the "Sing-Off" champion. The show will become part of NBC's all-comedy lineup on Thursdays starting in January.
"The Sing-Off" has performed solidly in its December run this year, averaging about 8.5 million viewers per episode and a 2.9 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic. Both figures are significantly higher than those of "Community," which will be the lead-in for "Perfect Couples" come Jan.

Actress Lindsay Lohan won't be starring as porn star Linda Lovelace in "Inferno" after all.
The troubled starlet was to make her comeback playing the famous porn star in "Inferno," but director Matthew Wilder told E! Online he could no longer wait for Lohan as she continues her treatment at the Betty Ford clinic.
"We are withdrawing our offer from Lindsay Lohan," Wilder said. "We are currently in negotiations [with another actress] and working out the legalities of bringing her onboard.

NBC is now 0-for-2 when it comes to casting actors from "My Boys" in its shows for next season.
Jordana Spiro has departed the now-midseason series "Love Bites," and now her "My Boys" boyfriend, Kyle Howard, is also leaving an NBC show: the midseason comedy "Perfect Couples." He'll be replaced by another Kyle, "Worst Week" and "Romantically Challenged" star Kyle Bornheimer, Deadline.com reports.
As with Spiro on "Love Bites," Howard's departure has to do with "My Boys" still being in play at TBS. Howard took the "Perfect Couples" role in second position to his current job. TBS hasn't made a decision yet on whether to bring "My Boys" back for a fifth season, and probably won't until it sees ratings numbers for its summer run, which premieres July 25.

After starring in CBS’ Worst Week and ABC’s Romantically Challenged, Kyle Bornheimer has replaced Kyle Howard in the NBC comedy Perfect Couples, due to Howard’s potential scheduling conflict with TBS’ My Boys. This was met with resounding cheers around PopWatch HQ, not because we don’t like Howard, but because we’ve been fans of Bornheimer since at least 2007, when EW highlighted his “30-second career” (including commercials for Geico, Staples, Imodium, Stanley, and Sprint). Will Perfect Couples finally be the vehicle that gives him a 30-minute career? Let’s look again at NBC’s description of the show,...

Last week, ABC confirmed that the network had indeed cancelled Romantically Challenged after just a few episodes.
The sitcom, starring Alyssa Milano, Josh Lawson, Kelly Stables, Kyle Bornheimer, Camden Palmisano, and Sierra McCormick, follows a group of friends who are looking for love. It debuted to lackluster ratings and viewership only dropped from there.
When news leaked out that the show was likely to be cancelled, Milano and others connected with the show encouraged fans to contact ABC and express their support. The efforts didn't work and the network still cancelled Romantically Challenged.
Milano briefly thanked supporters on Twitter and later wrote a longer statement that says...
It would be so very, very, easy for me to be upset and bitter about the cancellation of "Romantically Challenged". But... I'm not upset or bitter. Don't get me...

ABC announced its fall schedule yesterday. Here's a look at which shows made the cut, which ones were cancelled, and the new shows that will be taking their place:
Cancelled: sorry, FlashForward fans, but your show is still cancelled, along with Better Off Ted, The Deep End, The Forgotten, Happy Town, Romantically Challenged, and Scrubs.
Still No Idea: Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution and Shark Tank's futures haven't been confirmed. Most likely, they'll come back if the network needs some filler because its other shows flopped. Also, ABC has expressed interest in taking on CBS's recently-cancelled leftovers The Ghost Whisperer and New Adventures of Old Christine, because that worked out so well for the network when they took on Scrubs. Which, as you just saw above, is now cancelled.
New for Fall:
No Ordinary Family: an hour-long light drama about a family that develops superpowers after their plane crashes in the Amazon River.

Word leaked out late last week that ABC's new comedy, Romantically Challenged, had been cancelled. Alyssa Milano said that the news was premature and rallied fans to save it. The fight is now over.
Romantically Challenged follows a group of friends who have a hard time in the romance department. The sitcom's cast includes Alyssa Milano, Josh Lawson, Kelly Stables, Kyle Bornheimer, Camden Palmisano, and Sierra McCormick.
The sitcom got off to an okay start with a 2.9 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 10.67 million viewers. Unfortunately, the ratings fell for future episodes and the TV show continued to lose a large percentage of the Dancing with the Stars lead-in audience.
When news of the likely cancellation leaked out, Milano and others connected with the show encouraged fans to call the ABC audience feedback line. They also asked supporters...

As expected, ABC has officially canceled the sitcom 'Romantically Challenged,' starring Alyssa Milano.
The news was first reported last week by the Ausiello Files and seemed set in stone until Milano posted on Twitter that the announcement wasn't official. A last-minute Twitter campaign followed, but to no avail.
Mialno herself confirmed the news today on Twitter.
The series, co-starring 'Worst Week''s Kyle Bornheimer, was arguably doomed from the get-go after its premiere underperformed in the ratings. That night, the show drew 11.6 million viewers and 3.1 rating -- a disappointing number, considering its lead-in was ratings-juggernaut 'Dancing With the Stars.'
'Romantically Challenged' ends after the just one season.
In the meantime, ABC is set to announce its full fall lineup on Tuesday. Stay tuned to TV Squad for full coverage of the 2010 upfronts.

Alyssa Milano is baffled by reports her new U.S. TV series "Romantically Challenged" has been axed - insisting a decision has yet to be made by network bosses. Chiefs at ABC allegedly declined to commission a second series of Milano's comedy, which received mixed reviews after its launch last month.
But Milano insists TV executives have yet to determine the future of her show - and she's taken to her Twitter.com blog to blast the reporter who broke the unconfirmed news. She writes: "#romanticallychallenged I just spoke to abc. They say that no decision has been made as of yet. Either @MichaelAusiello is misinformed or his "insider" spilled before proper human contact was made between the network, producers & cast. Either way it's not cool."
While many have reported that the show is definitely canceled, Milano insisted as of Friday, May 14 night that they still haven't got official word from ABC.

ABC has reportedly picked up six pilots for next season, according to THR -- three comedies, two dramedies and one drama procedural.
Matthew Perry stars as a sports manager in a single-camera project, "Mr. Sunshine," from ABC Studios/Sony. This marks Perry's second attempt (the much hyped "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" went 22 episodes before being pulled) to return to the small screen in a series since "Friends." Most of his post-"Friends" time on screen has been spent doing films, "17 Again" being his latest big-screen venture.
Another single-camera project, "Happy Endings," stars "24's" Elisha Cuthbert. The Jamie Tarses project centers around a group of friends navigating romance.
Also greenlit by ABC, the multicam romantic comedy "Better Together" from Bonanza/Silver and Gold/Warner Bros. that focuses on two couples in two very dissimilar relationships. Will "Together" replace the ABC's teetering freshman romantic comedy "Romantically Challenged" next season? The verdict is still out,...
