Ihsahn has announced a new self-titled solo album arriving February 16th. The Norwegian black metal legend has also unveiled two different versions — one black metal and one symphonic — of the lead single “Pilgrimage to Oblivion.”
The metal version immediately calls to mind Celtic Frost’s seminal album Into the Pandemonium with its fusion of black metal and bombastic orchestral arrangement. Ihsahn’s vocals are starkly placed among the music, which has tangible prog-metal slant in its composition, following the template of the Emperor founder’s latter solo material.
“‘Pilgrimage to Oblivion’ serves as a rather immediate introduction to the overarching musical and conceptual aspects of the album,” remarked Ihsahn in a press release. “The lyrics go directly into the storyline and the video is the first in a sequel of videos portraying the whole story.”

Seventeen years after his breakthrough role in Into the Wild, Emile Hirsch, now 38, has, by his own admission, not abandoned the role of the unforgettable protagonist Chris McCandless.
The 2007 film directed by Sean Penn and won Hirsch critical honors and a National Board of Review award. He says he carries within him “idealism, having his heart and priorities in the right place” as well as a certain radical view of life, the acting profession, and Hollywood in general.
His career hasn’t been without controversy. In 2015 he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault after being accused of putting a female studio executive in a chokehold at a Utah nightclub during the Sundance Film Festival. He eventually served 15 days in jail for the incident.

When the coronavirus pandemic hit California in March, San Diego Film Festival artistic director Tonya Mantooth briefly considered canceling this year’s program. But when it came down to the final decision, she recalls, her team held her back, saying, “Wait a second, our mission is to use film as a catalyst to bring different perspectives and get them to the forefront. This is exactly why we exist as a festival — we need to stay in there and fight the good fight.”
In a year that is seeing a resurgence of sociopolitical movements challenging systemic racism and advocating for LGBTQ+ rights, Sdff’s 2020 edition champions those messages as told through the big screen in a sincere effort to unite communities. With its weeklong program reduced to four days, the fest is scheduled for Oct. 15 to 18, featuring both drive-in events and virtual screenings that can be enjoyed in the comfort of festgoers’ homes.

Welcome to Career Watch, a vocational checkup of top actors and directors, and those who hope to get there. In this edition we take on global star Penélope Cruz, who’s delivering lauded performances on multiple platforms, in English and her native Spanish.
Bottom Line: Cruz is a Goya and Oscar-winner (“Vicky Cristina Barcelona”) who chases challenging material around the globe. This year she and husband Javier Bardem not only opened Cannes with Asghar Farhadi’s Spanish mystery drama “Everybody Knows” (Focus Features) — which went on to rack up over $6.5 million in France — but Cruz transformed herself into blonde Italian fashion icon Donatella Versace for her first-ever foray into television. Ryan Murphy’s “The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story” (FX) scored 18 Emmy nominations last week including Supporting Actress in a Limited series for Cruz. Next, she’ll play her sixth role with mentor Pedro Almodovar, playing his mother...

Twice Born tells the story of Gemma (Penelope Cruz), an Italian professor who decides to bring her teenage son, Pietro, to Bosnia to see the country where he was born--and where she fell in love with his now-deceased father. Scenes of the present are intercut with those of the past, when Gemma was a student working on her doctorate in Sarajevo in the early 1980s. There, she was introduced to the passionate American photographer Diego (Emile Hirsch) by her zany Bosnian poet guide, Gojko (Adnan Hasković) kickstarting a steamy romance that leads to marriage but, unfortunately for them, a lack of children.

From Inside Llewyn Davis to Out of the Furnace, here’s what to see and what to skip this weekend at the movies. See ThisInside Llewyn DavisOscar Isaac has an unfortunate habit of being the best thing in bad movies (W.E., Won’t Back Down, The Bourne Legacy), so I’m thrilled to say that he’s finally the best thing in a great one. As Llewyn Davis, perhaps the most talented - and most unsuccessful - folk singer in New York, Isaac is a rumpled, miserable mess. He doesn’t particularly like people, but he’s forced to prevail upon them constantly,...

If there was an Academy Award for tragedy appropriation, “Twice Born” would be 2013’s front-runner. The story of two dingbats who inexplicably fall for each other while Sarajevo disintegrates around them, Sergio Castellitto’s film projects a tumultuous love story against the backdrop of the Bosnian War for independence, and then seems unaware that the foreground overshadows it in the worst possible way. Mostly told in flashback, the film stars Penélope Cruz as Gemma, who brings her son Pietro (Pietro Castellitto) to Sarajevo to see photographs taken by his long-deceased father Diego (Emile Hirsch). Despite her hopes that the trip will.

With his first child, a couple of indie films ("Prince Avalanche," "The Motel Life," "Twice Born"), a miniseries (A&E's "Bonnie and Clyde") and a meaty high-profile role on the horizon (John Belushi in the as-of-yet untitled biopic), 2013 is chalking up to be a pretty good year for Emile Hirsch. Over the course of his film career (his debut being in "The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys" in 2002), Hirsch has frequently varied his acting choices. Being led simply by the quality of the material rather than trying to configure a trajectory or formulate a brand, Hirsch has run the gamut of being a young actor in (and outside of) Hollywood: nominated for a MTV Music Award For Best Kiss (with Elisha Cuthbert in "The Girl Next Door"), portraying real-life characters to varying critical acclaim ("Lords of Dogtown," "Alpha Dog," "Into The Wild," "Milk"), taking on an iconic cartoon character in...

Emulating Almodóvar: Castellitto Employs Cruz To Pull Heartstrings
The renowned Italian actor turned middling director Sergio Castellitto returns to his place on both sides of the camera with Twice Born, this time playing the homebound husband in his second film to be based on a novel by his wife Margaret Mazzantini featuring his on screen Spanish muse Penélope Cruz as his tragic protagonist. Revisiting many of the same genealogical complications explored in their largely unsuccessful last collaboration, Don’t Move, which featured a grating troupe of unlikeable characters, his latest sees Castellitto rounding up an international cast that pulls hard at the heartstrings, diving deep into melodramatic territory while exploring the depths of maternity and what it means to be unequivocally in love. Thankfully, the film revels in overblown emotion while managing a twisty-turny narrative that plays flashbacks of mixed affection against a homecoming visit to a bygone comrade.

One thing that can be said about actor Emile Hirsch, whose career began at the age of 12, is that as he's grown older, he's been a lot more selective about the roles he plays. Despite appearing in a number of teen comedies, playing a big screen version of Speed Racer and giving a memorable turn in Sean Penn's Into the Wild , Hirsch certainly has been trying to transition into more adult roles while getting away from the double-edged sword of still looking younger than his actual age. Having premiered at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival, Twice Born pairs Hirsch with the gorgeous Oscar-winning actress Penelope Cruz, who in turn reunites with her Don't Move director, Sergio Castellitto, once again adapting a bestselling novel by his wife Margaret Mazzantini. Despite starring Penélope Cruz and Emilie Hirsch, somehow the romantic war drama "Twice Born" eluded us on the festival circuit. But it looks like we didn't have to worry too much as it's already headed to theaters and you too can now check out this film which has been brewing for a while. A new trailer for Sergio Castellitto's movie has arrived, and provides an extended look at the story which centers on single mother Gemma (Cruz) who returns with her teen son to present-day Sarajevo where her son's father died during the Bosnian conflict of the 1990s. The movie not only looks like it's presenting an epic sweep, but the actors look to be taking on roles that require some tremendous breadth, particularly Cruz who appears in both the "present" and flashback portions of the movie. We certainly want to see if this ambitious concept can be pulled off.

Amazingly, Cruz turns 39-years-old on Sunday but still has the figure of a woman ten years younger. However this may be her last production for a while as the...

It's time for the world to prepare itself for another beautiful Cruz/Bardem baby.
The New York Post has revealed that Penélope Cruz is pregnant with her second child with husband Javier Bardem. Cruz was spotted with a slightly fuller figure Jan. 10 at the Madrid premiere of her Italian-language film "Venuto al Mondo," and sources have confirmed that she is indeed with child.
Rumors that Cruz and Bardem were pregnant with their second child first began swirling last summer but were quickly quashed.
The couple's first child, son Leo Encinas, was born in January 2011, about half a year after the couple married during a private ceremony in the Bahamas. The actors, both Academy Award winners, began dating in 2007.
It was also announced in January that Cruz's sister Monica is pregnant via sperm donor.

It looks like Penélope Cruz has got herself on pins and needles! The actress showed up to the Venuto Al Mondo premiere in Spain earlier this month with four very tiny friends that almost went unnoticed. After a close-up on this photo of the star on the red carpet, it turns out she was sporting some acupuncture pins in her left ear. So what gives? Well, even though it could be considered cute ear jewelry, that's not the case. Apparently, the celeb is practicing a form of acupuncture called auriculotherapy, which is most commonly used to relieve chronic pain, detoxification from addictive drugs, relief of nausea and reduction of hypertension. Along with those uses,...

With the fall movie season swiftly approaching, it’s not a stretch to say that many of the potential nominees for the Oscars and other end of year awards will finally be seeing a release. This year is no different. Though we have had a couple of films previously released that may be considered as possibilities in the awards race (Moonrise Kingdom, Beasts of the Southern Wild, and my personal favorite, The Grey), there’s a lot more right around the corner. Some of these very films that many have high hopes for will first be seen by those living in Canada. Variety has released some of the upcoming films that will be making their debut at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival. Or one can simply say just Tiff. Of those films announced, quite a few of them will have genre fans like myself quite giddy.

While he's not quite going Hollywood, Korean helmer Hong Sang-Soo seems to be continuing down the starry path he took with Isabelle Huppert who stars in his upcoming "In Another Country." Actress and chanteuse Jane Birkin has revealed that she's set to meet with renowned Korean helmer this week with an eye on a possible on-screen collaboration.
"I'm old now, and I don't know whether he needs me, but I'd like to appear in one of Hong's films," Birkin told ChoSun. "If it is going to be a good one, I'm willing to accept the challenge of making my first appearance in a Korean film."
Obviously, it remains to be seen what transpires from here but the casual meeting is similar to the genesis of Hong's most recent collaboration with French thesp, Huppert. On a visit to Korea, the actress name-dropped Hong as a director she'd like to work with in the future and,...

Little had been heard from the project since these announcements but now, thanks to Wild Bunch (via Ion Cinema), a host of images have been unveiled providing our first look at Cruz and Hirsch for the story of a woman who returns to Sarajevo with her son in tow and revisits the tumultuous past she shared with his late father.
