Hollywood Hist-o-Rama: Greer Garson (1961)

** 1/2 (out of 4)

Lasting anywhere between three and four minutes, the Hollywood HIST-O-RAMA series shouldn't be looked at as some sort of documentary that's going to tell you everything about the subject. After all, with such a short running time it would be impossible to go into great details about anything but I'm sure people back when this was made would have at least enjoyed them.

The Ireland born Greer Garson is the star of this short as we learn about her early days on the stage, being discovered by Louis B. Mayer and how he kept her sitting on the sideline for a year until he thought a screenplay would do her justice. From here we learn about several of her film roles including the one she's most remembered for, which also got her an Oscar. If you're coming to this series expecting a history lesson then you're going to be disappointed. If you're just wanting some cheap, nostalgic fun then you will enjoy this. I thought this was a rather fascinating way to give people (of 1961) a quick look back at the stars. We at least get some pretty good photos throughout as well as some behind the scenes shots.
