Compelling storytelling and powerful depiction of the stages of human trafficking
sharonroy-1636121 June 2023
"The Twelve Thousand" is a gripping short film that delves into the true story of a survivor's life. With its compelling storytelling and thought-provoking themes, this short film manages to captivate viewers from beginning to end. Set in Kathmandu, Nepal, it skillfully depicts the protagonist's journey of being trafficked and their path towards healing and restoration.

One of the standout aspects of "The Twelve Thousand" is the fact that the film features no professional actors, only Nepalese nationals-all of whom have been affected by human trafficking/ abuse. The absence of professional actors adds an extra layer of authenticity to the storytelling, making it even more compelling.

In summary, "The Twelve Thousand" is a compelling and thought-provoking short film that powerfully illustrates the various stages and challenges of human trafficking. Its stunning visuals, compelling storytelling, and poignant performances effectively convey the protagonist's inner turmoil, fears, and glimmers of hope. By immersing the audience in this emotional journey, the film succeeds in raising awareness and fostering empathy towards survivors of trafficking.

A powerful film of a true story
sofiaafriesen28 July 2023
The Twelve Thousand is a powerful narrative depicting the true story of "Sona", a survivor of sex trafficking from Nepal to India. This film tells this story, and provides insight into what human trafficking can look like in this part of the world, in a compassionate and compelling way. This film was not explicit or attempting to over sensationalize a hot button issue, but rather it showed this issue from the perspective of a survivor - a perspective that is rarely represented so authentically. Although limited by its short runtime, "The Twelve Thousand" serves as a powerful catalyst for raising awareness about human trafficking and the urgent need to combat this global crisis.
