Kohei Horikoshi sensei has done the magnificent by creating a masterpiece series like My Hero Academia from a figment of his imagination. But while fans love the story and feel they can relate deeply to both the story and the mangaka, what they don’t realize is that the mangaka’s personal choices are far different than theirs when it comes to his favorite characters from the saga.
Kohei Horikoshi. | Credit: YouTube/@Syfy.
As it turns out, everyone’s favorite character from the Mha storyline ‘All Might’ is not quite the favorite character of the mangaka as well, even though it was Horikoshi sensei himself who created him. In fact, the mangaka prefers one other, more “rude” character over this fan-favorite one! Yet, as surprising as it may be, the true reasoning behind his choice isn’t so non-understandable either.

Avengers: Endgame may have been three whole hours long, but there was so much to do in the conclusion to the Infinity Saga that some key details still ended up on the cutting room floor. For instance, the full script for the movie – which arrived online last month – reveals that there was originally a reason behind a major plot point that goes unexplained in the film itself. The mystery that’s solved? How Tony Stark knew to time travel back to the 1970s.
As part of the Time Heist, Iron Man and Ant-Man attempt to pinch the Space Stone from New York 2012. However, due to an unforeseen mishap involving the Hulk and a flight of stairs, this plan goes wrong and Loki escapes with the Tesseract. All isn’t lost, though, as Tony realizes that he and Captain America can go back somewhere else to collect the Stone, as well...

"When I become death, death is the seed from which I grow."
—William S Burroughs, Ah Pook Is Here.
Not to be morbid or anything, but the shadow of mortality has been a dominant theme of nearly all the best stuff I've seen so far at the 48th Vienna International Film Festival (Viennale for short), most inescapably in Apichatpong Weerasethakul's Palme d'Or winner Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives (Loong Boonmee raleuk chat), which clicked with me more than most "Joe" efforts, I suspect, mainly because of its surprisingly prominent horror-movie touches.
Certain spooky scenes involving ape-like jungle "beings" with bright red eyes recall "lowbrow" antecedents like John Carpenter's The Fog (1980), Amando de Ossorio's Blind Dead quartet (1971-5) and Eugenio Martín's Horror Express (1972), not to mention the more nightmarish alternate-realities of David Lynch - though Apichatpong has...

The latest trailers for Symbol (or Shinboru) hint at an odd film that mixes the claustrophobia of Cube, the asylum-like paranoia of Jim Henson's The Cube, and the random, colorful Japanese itemization of a Turbo Grafx 16 game import. Needless to say, I'm interested, and buzz on the latest film from Hitoshi Matsumoto, the Japanese star and writer/director of cult-fave Big Man Japan, has it delivering on the promising, pristine imagery below. Nice pajamas, guy. Matsumoto plays the main character, a man who wakes up in an empty, white, windowless room and evidently can't help looking bewildered. As seen in the teaser above, the man notices a dick-and-balls thing protruding out of the wall. According to a synopsis at IMDb, before the monochromatic, freaky angels circle around him, a pink toothbrush falls out of the wall "setting in motion a genuinely bizarre chain of events. Soon the imprisoned man...

It’s not often you come across a movie that’s both wildly thought provoking and wildly funny at the same time. But then again, it’s not often you come across a story that concerns itself with an overtly philosophic/explanatory treatise on symbolism and symbols.
And we all know about symbols, right? They’re a thing that stands for or represents something else, usually used in a concrete/abstract association, such as the color white symbolizing purity. That’s an easy one. Writers Hitoshi Matsumoto and Mitsuyoshi Takasu have come up with something much more interesting. Much, much more.
What we have here are what appears to be two completely separate stories. One involves a Mexican wrestler incongruously known as Escargoman (no kidding) and the other an unnamed Japanese man...

Can’t get enough of those naked angels from the first teaser trailer for Hitoshi Matsumoto’s Symbol (Shinboru)? Well, lucky you as the new teaser trailer just shows some more of them and only adds an odd scene of a fat bald man sitting in a group of dogs.
The synopsis taken from IMDb doesn’t help much either…

When he presses a mysteriously phallic protuberance that appears on one wall, a pink toothbrush materializes from nowhere, clattering to the floor and setting in motion a genuinely bizarre chain of events. Soon the imprisoned man is engaged in absurd and hilarious attempts to escape the gleaming room, releasing random objects from the walls, creating a life sized mouse trap game in which a rope, a toilet plunger and an earthenware jug full...

How it is possible for a huge celebrity - which hugely popular comedian Hitoshi Matsumoto most certainly is - in a celebrity obsessed culture - a fixation which Matsumoto’s native Japan certainly embraces - to make a film entirely under the radar is beyond me. And Matsumoto has done exactly that with his sophomore effort, Symbol. Yes, people have known it was in the works for a little while but even that much news didn’t leak out until the film was deep into post production with the only substantive talk circulating revolving around how the film’s producers had considered Symbol a lock for Cannes and were both shocked and very displeased when that proved not to be the case.

From director Hitoshi Matsumoto, who made Big Man Japan, comes a new project called Symbol, that's shrouded in mystery. Not much is known about the project other than it is multi-lingual, involves a lot of foreign extras, and will be released in Japan on September 12, 2009.
This new, CGI heavy teaser (via nipponcinema) for the film is weird, weird, weirder and doesn't give us much to go on. It shows a guy in "loud" pajamas waking up in a large white room. He walks over to the wall and then, well, just watch for yourselves.

Oh boy, I can deal with flying and talking poo but being trapped in an empty white room that’s getting invaded with naked little angels (coming in weenie-first)…that would seriously disturb my good-night’s sleep. Especially if I would have to wear That pyjama…
