How did Brie and Roger coming back really save Jamie and Claire in the fire?
Ziggy196511 July 2023
So much is made in this and the last episode that Roger and Brie were successful in their mission of coming back to the past to save Jamie and Claire from the fire. When the fire happened they had already gone to the 1980's, so what role did they play in making this happen?

I could see if they were there at the time of the fire and were instrumental in helping them escape. Then we find out that news article was actually fake news written by Tom Christie.

And I agree with Rob-O-Cop that the appearance of Tom Christie was just plain creepy! I was surprised that Jamie was not present when Claire and Tom met later on. I don't think we have heard the last of Tom Christie.

Brie's interview was hilarious and the writing there was really good! I enjoyed that bit of interaction. It was obvious that Roger would feel the way that he did. But it all turned out for the best.

Kind of slow at the moment and it does not have the tenseness and the intensity of the earlier seasons. It looks like there will be 16 episodes this year and we are only in episode 4, so they have to drag it out a bit.

I guess I will keep watching as I am interested to see how this all ends. BUT if the 1st few seasons had been similar to how the story is being told now, I would not be here writing this review in season 7.

Not quite the passion

Another ok episode.

I agree with the review on last weeks episode that they're not delivering on the same level they did for the first 5-6 series. I think shooting under covid has tampered the process. The end credits list a team of covid compliance crew so that's got to make it difficult for them.

That said there is a perfunctory hit and miss dryness to the deliver of some of the scenes. The scene with Tom Christie was just weird, and Claire's response seemed unconvincing. At least we know he's out there looming around being a potential threat.

Jamie's conscription was an interesting scene. It's hard to think of what happened to him as believable but it's exactly what happened then and could happen again.

Young Ian's scene with Rachel Hunter was one of the few scenes that had some spark to it. Izzy Meikle-Small looks to be an interesting character, although Arch Bug and his threatening words in last weeks episode put a dark shadow over anything good that might happen to Young Ian.

It's hard to tell whether it's the material, delivery or directing that is falling flat for the series at the moment. It's still watchable tv but it's not at the level it has been.

Not criticising the show but noting it could and has been better.

Poor stage of the epoch

Minute 54, please give me the number of William's dentist. No way in that time people would have that teeth. You don't always need a good looking actor. But a well fitting actor. For example Tom is perfect, imperfect shaving, not very clean, dirty nails, perfect speech, but the younger characters...better not talk about. It seems like there are two types of directors, one very careful and one "trendy". The script is awesome, but the staging needs some work. Also the clothing are missing the hand touch, way to perfect. Very sloppy in terms of decor and outfits in some scenes . Although the linguist consultant is very good.

Warning: Spoilers
The show remains a solid watch, but I think they made a pretty key mistake of separating the two families. There were plenty of reasons to keep Jamie/Claire and Roger/Brianna together and while the latter pair ultimately would like to go back to their own timeline, choosing to do so now does not really pass the test.

But the dialogue is still strong and this is still the kind of period piece that is easy to watch. Other shows in this genre feel a little bit dated and repetitive, but even slow-moving episodes like the one we saw tonight are easy enough to breeze through and have a positive impression of.
