Uncle Lucius is running from marriage-crazy "Widow" Florabelle Crabtree (familiar character actress Ellen Corby, "The Waltons") after taking on odd jobs for her to make gambling money. He decides he will go into his own business venture. With a chopped log laying across the road Uncle Lucius timely arrives with his mule team to clear the road for a traveler, Mr. Walter Danford (Philip Ober)- for $10. He bets with Uncle Lucius and ends up paying $20. When Mr. Danford arrives at Mr. Brent's, Tammy overhears and makes Uncle Lucius come to apologize. Mr. Danford and two associates are preparing to play poker, but wishing they had a fourth. When Uncle Lucius comes to apologize and give back the $20 he becomes the fourth, unknown to him, in a high-stakes game. When he can't pay his dues Mr. Danford talks him into putting up the family houseboat for half dues/half chips. He loses the home and confides in Tammy that he can't face Grandpa. Turned down by the bank, Uncle Lucius decides to ask Florabelle for the loan, but she mistakes it as a marriage proposal. As Uncle Lucius looks to solve his problems he only adds to them.
