Gunslinger
rodgwinn14 December 2021
Thought this was a pretty good episode. Sometimes a side trek is ok, and it shows his struggle with doing what's right. Reminds me of some old westerns where the former gunslinger put away his guns and swore not to be violent. Until someone evil comes along and threatens innocent people. And then we hear, "Call me Hondo".

Calling on the viewers to embrace something different
amiraleonora3 October 2021
I do not usually write reviews but reading the rest of them, I felt quite disappointed that people do not seem to be willing to watch anything else than the same old typical swat episodes.

If this is what you want to see - then yes this episode might not be the one for you.

If on the other hand you are a bit more open-minded, then you will enjoy this rather personal episode, realizing that Hondo's true calling will always find a way back into his life, since it is so intertwined in his essence.

As for the complaints about the BLM theme coming up in multiple episodes throughout the show - viewers who cannot deal with seeing it on the screen this much, you are missing the entire point here. If this already makes you uncomfortable, how do you think it makes black people feel, when they want to escape racism, but can't?

So this constant thread of BLM is actually giving us a glimpse into the reality that millions of people are living in without a chance of simply blocking it out. And hearing you complain about having to watch a few minutes of it per episode is really disgusting. It is the definition of privilege to state that you basically cannot be bothered to watch another episode touching on racism.

In my opinion this is precisely what makes the show great - the cast, each one of them with their own unique story and experiences touching on important topics such as discrimination, racism and sexism as well as the typical action scenes you would expect from a police show.

This gave me the Man on Fire vibe. I can't wait for the next episode. Hondo is about to bring that Smoke!

What a start
Yossy_yan4 January 2022
Well, I don't know what you all talking about.

You just can't appreciate something good when you see it.

In my opinion, this is the best episode in the WHOLE series so far.

Maybe it's a little bit corny that he goes to Mexico to think about his next step and them he get involved in all that is going on there but the whole episode was very good.

Very good start of the season.

I'm watching this when there are already 9 episodes, probably gonna binge them right now :)

Very Engaging!
ronodugo2 October 2021
I think this episode was a great preamble of what is to come this season.

To the last reviewers: this is just the first episode out of 24 or thereabout, give it sometime.

Worth the wait
dizzymediainc2 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Considering what went down in the last episode of season 4, it makes a lot of sense that hondo is taking time to really reflect on himself and what he wants, which has been a main struggle for him throughout the series.

Hondo wants to do right, serve and protect and most of all, make a difference, yet is blocked at every turn by people he thought he could count on when it truly matters.

Even now in Mexico he's hitting the same roadblocks and struggling with his own self on what he should do, as we can see him constantly telling the family he is helping that he can't get more involved.

However Hondo will always be Hondo and in the end, he comes back to who he really is.

Yes they nailed this episode down to the T, it was incredibly well thought out and definitely worth the long wait.

I can't wait for the next episode!

Amazing Episode!!!
Film-Extra3 October 2021
One of my favorite episodes. Not sure why all the hate. Missed seeing the whole team but while it might be a filler type episode it's one of the best. Really enjoyed seeing Hondo struggle with his choices and demons. Can't wait to see the next episode!! Yes it is very different from what we are accustomed to but still in itself a great episode!

Hire Irish actors pleaseee
eileeshb-116 May 2022
Hollywood's idea of an Irish accent is as outdated as black and white tv. If you won't hire an Irish actor then at least use an Irish casting agent to vet the "accent" you're asking an Aussie to produce,

Hondo as Eastwood

Love this episode but seems very divisive. Not an helicopter or armoured vehicle in site.

Thoroughly enjoyed it
pmac-566374 October 2021
Move over Duke, there's a new Hondo in town. Talented secondary cast in this episode, and the camera did a great job of capturing Mexico's sleepy landscape. It was nice to get away from LA's concrete jungle for a change. Well done CBS.

An amazing episode
SimonJester222 May 2022
Now this review is from a Londoner who has never been to the US or Mexico.

But from the stunning, opening location travelogue; this genuinely transfixed me.

Val Dorantes - who I had never heard of before - was incredible and there must be so, so much more to expect from her career. As for Shemar Moore, I could never understand why he wasn't a movie actor. A really unexpected beauty of an episode.

It's called SWAT...not "The Hondo Show"
idtsnicolekelley12 October 2021
Legit the worst episode of the series. No one from the regular cast, except for Shemar Moore, made an appearance, which after a shorter 4th season due to covid and a summer break, made it hard to connect with this episode. Sorry, but not all of us watch this show because of Shemar Moore. It would have made more sense to make it a 2 hour season premiere rather than having a week break in between episodes 1 and 2.

Could've been a standalone film!
admiralgaspar11 October 2021
I always liked the series for the cast, fast-paced action and meaningful storylines. Yet this season the creators took it up a notch and filmed the first two episodes almost as a standalone film, with outstanding results. The genre is known, disgruntled elite cop gets into trouble in a foreign location, yet it was really entertaining to watch, with the cast shining through the entire hour. Fight scenes were tight, pacing was great. Surpassed my expectations, what a way to open a season! Can't wait to see what's next!

THIS IS NOT SWAT!
jeff-cossey2 October 2021
This is just another episode in the latest of the Hondo hour.

I'm so sick of his side stories.

They need to get back to the action and SWAT stories.

If the character Hondo doesn't want to be part of the SWAT so be it and move on!

Another episode like this and I'm done!

Boring, like watching paint dry
confidential-678972 October 2021
Honestly, the producers and writers need to stop listening to Shemar, he is obviously running the show. Episodes now now just about BLM or stories that just involve him. It's just unwatchable these days.

Slow, Worthless And Tedious
corraled-056902 October 2021
Where do I begin? First we have no credits, because I guess this was a very special episode. So Hondo decides to venture south of the border to Mexico to find himself. 0stensibly on vacation, Hondo now has to rescue a damsel in distress. Did he call in 20 David? No, not only did he not call in 20 David, 20 David was missing entirely and that leads us to the second-an entire episode without the rest of the cast. To call the lack of action anemic would be kind. They opened up better last year when covid delayed production. I can quite honestly say this was the worst, lamest, most disappointing Season Premiere of any show I have ever watched. The Shemar Moore Hour was a student film all about linoleum cracking. Even a cheesy sitcom like THE NEIGHBORHOOD opened stronger. This was awful, insufferable and a total letdown. This show is supposed to have you on the edge of your sofa. FLY on BREAKING BAD was cinematic in contrast to this crapfest. Better damn well pick up next week. Season Premieres are supposed to be action packed, suspenseful, especially for a cop show like this. VAGABUNDO? More like MUY STUPIDO.

S.W.A.T. but not S.W.A.T.
simonhi10 October 2021
As my review title says.

I could accept this as a background or secondary story as a part of an actual S. W. A. T. story line. But to completely miss out any action by the squad is just ridiculous.

Might just as well just call it "Hondo goes to Mexico to find himself" or "Trouble find Hondo in Mexico"

better
tezzahols5 October 2021
At least this episode was better than all the other, i suppose it's to make Hondo look more appealing, away from his whinning all the time, but watch, he'll stuff it up with something about political, with the BLM supporters, normal people get sick of it rammed down their throats on every show, people want to be entertained, not preached to.

Am i watching swat?
dkerr-216112 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
What the hell was this, this had nothing to do with swat.

This feels like the whole season is gonna be one big filler episode, and the only mention of the other swat members is a random scene showing a phone with one text message from each member of the old team...

What show is this?
hosenoggin2 October 2021
Worst show of the series. I did not recognize it as a swat procedural police drama. Covid is making creative people take big risks with no pay off. I guess the network execs were off sick this week.

My opinion on subtitles has multiple other reviews... all for the Nada.

The good news is, there is room for redemption next week. The ending left a cliffhanger of possible action to follow.
