It could have been better, honestly.

It's a pretty fun zombie game, especially if you play online co-op with your buddies, but the timed missions really make it less enjoyable. I think the shining star of this game is all the different and unique weapons you can craft and use to mow down zombies. Also, the infamous mall setting from Dawn of the Dead is here, so that's cool!

Zombies everywhere! Timing missions galore!
Aaron137528 February 2012
This game is better than the first game, a bit better. However, it suffers from the same thing that game did as it, like its predecessor, is all about timed missions and multiple things going on at the same time. If you are the type of person that can pick a mission and not stress over the meters showing the demise of characters from other missions you have to ignore then you can probably enjoy this game a bit more than I did. I am one of those crazy people that likes to do everything in a game and it just drives me crazy! I had to put this one down as it had me cussing and just stressing way to much. The story has this one guy competing in a contest in the hopes of winning enough money to buy his sick girl some zombrex, a drug that stops one from becoming a zombie. Of course, zombies go on the rampage and the hero is stuck in a type of shelter, however he finds a way out and has to find zombrex for his girl, save random people here and there and unravel the mystery behind who is responsible for the outbreak in what is essentially a huge shopping mall, plaza thing. The fighting is good here, as are the graphics and like I said I had fun for a bit when I was getting all the missions done, but they begin adding up and it becomes a headache. This mall is also very hard to traverse as the first one is. You turn this way and that and become very lost, very quickly. I would hate for all maps to be as useless as mall maps. They have a cool thing where you can combine weapons and really do damage, but that does not make up for the fact that there are some things that are just to insane. Getting run down by a crazed biker and not knowing if you are supposed to attack the guy are get on a bike and fight, trying to decide whether you have enough time to save random people or rushing back to get zombrex to your kid. To much pressure! Some people may thrive in a game of this type, but it just gave me a headache.

Dead rising 2 is a phoenix rising from the ashes
sharkattack19781 October 2010
After the success of the original Dead rising. I really wanted to see a sequel to it. Finally in 2010, our wishes have been answered. Enter Dead Rising 2. Is it as good as the original? Well....Yes it is, easily surpasses the original by miles. Frank has not returned for the sequel, instead this new edition to the zombie survival horror is focused on a new hero. Exit Frank West, enter Chuck Greene. Chuck is a motocross legend and a devoted father, but when the zombie outbreak threatens his family, Chuck must man up and take on the zombie threat anyway he knows how. Everything we enjoyed and loved about the original is back and i mean back with a vengeance. Firstly not only can you pick up anything and use it as a weapon but you can also combine them and make an even vicious weapon to help dismember and dessicate any zombie can come into your path. Slaying zombies is even more fun to do in DR2, I spent hours dispatching the horrifying horde. Once again the psychopaths are back in force and there seemed to be more in DR2 than there was in DR. DR2 is more fun to play than the first game and it is certainly much more gory and gruesome. The only gripe I have about this game is that the damn breakable weapons return as well. Things like MMA groves, Boxing gloves and Swords would not break, so why after using them for three minutes do they disappear/break? The game is more challenging than the first one but this time you can have a friend help you in your hour of need as DR2 has got a co-op mode where you can both take on the campaign and the zombies. Playing on your own is fun yet sometimes a little frustrating but playing together is an absolute blast.

DR2 is the game that you wished for, if they do another DR3 then they have to get rid of the breakable weapons.

MATURE content...
MPSMedia6 March 2023
I really enjoyed some aspects of this game -- co-op mode (this game is so much more fun to play w/someone else than alone), the WIDE variety of weapons (pretty much anything you can pick up can become a weapon), and the "father working to save his daughter" theme... That said, there are several things that made this game less enjoyable for me.

Extreme violence is to be expected in a horror genre zombie apocalypse game, however there's a lot more mature content than this. The way this game portrays women is derogatory and sexist, and it contains a lot of sexual and alcohol themed content and explicit language that I personally would have preferred not to see/hear.

Also, there are way too many things going on at the same time, which is especially frustrating in the game's unforgiving TIMED missions.

My favorite thing and what I'll remember most about this game is playing it with my best friend at the time, and the entertaining reactions it brought us.
