Disappointing
gizmomogwai5 May 2021
I was looking forward to this for most of the day (it's Star Wars Day and Disney now owns both Star Wars and The Simpsons). Maggie previously knocked it out of the park with her first short The Longest Daycare, and Playdate with Destiny is a bit underrated. The Force Awakens from Its Nap feels a bit lazy in comparison. No effort is made to explain how Maggie enters this world; she simply crosses the street from the Ayn Rand School for Tots. In a Star Wars-themed daycare, the only genuine laugh comes from Maggie's handling of the Death Star, which lampoons the films effectively. The plummeting Disney stock was also an attempt at subversive humour. But the ending doesn't come close to the cleverness of that in The Longest Daycare, which The Force Awakens from Its Nap is really a pale imitation of. Aside from the underwhelming story and jokes, the animation and all technical aspects of this film are top notch.

I have a mixed feeling about this.

Just a short review here, given that the film is just a three-minute short that landed on Disney Plus on Star Wars day of 2021.

Continuing the trend of Maggie Simpson shorts revolving around the daycare facility, this time she forgoes the Ayn Rand school and instead is dropped at the Star Wars themed one next door. Inside, Asoka is given unruly children a time out in Carbonite and the many limbs of General Grievous are used to change diapers. Maggie comes to clash with her old nemesis Gerald, who now is in a form of a classic Sith Lord.

Without wishing to go too far in either direction, this short is in a word, alright. There are a number of mildly amusing little ideas and cameos in the three-minute runtime, but nothing coming anything close to the type of invention that we've seen "Robot Chicken" or "Family Guy" delve into over the years. I really felt the ending could have been much better, but I applaud the effort even if the previous Maggie shorts have been much better.

The rules of Star wars we don't talk about star wars

Warning: Spoilers
Again simpsons short always just short and funny Which is great but come on you You shouldn't believe Star Wars that much I mean this isn't fire club guys we can talk about it. But yes some of the things they said were very true like every Star Wars son has to have 2 sons and something like that And I love the Dartmaul and dumb Maggie fight Just because of how um nostalgic it was And even the music with them the Theme song It just brings Back all times But overall it's just an average short. I mean it was funny but still very the average like but not as average as Pinocchio With tom hanks. I didn't want to get bullied for talking about the new one.

It should have stayed asleep.

'The Force Awakens From Its Nap (2021)' is the latest short centred on Maggie Simpson, who finds herself dealing with all manner of things from a galaxy far, far away when she's dropped off at a Jedi daycare facility. It's a bizarre mash-up, for sure, and it comes across as very surface-level. I mean, it's a classic case of 'just because they can doesn't mean they should'. The thing doesn't really have a proper story to it, instead being comprised of a few set-pieces and a whole heap of fan-service. It's just lazy, really. It's a far cry from Maggie's other two short films. 4/10.

This was probably what an intern had to turn in to try and keep their position. Storyless, pointless.

Beginning and end alright, but the key plot in the middle was very forgettable

Warning: Spoilers
"Maggie Simpson in the Force Awakens from Its Nap" from 2021 is a pretty long title for this really short movie, but you understand that this is all about the Simpsons here and a mix with Star Wars. The director of these slightly over 3.5 minutes is David Silverman and he managed an Oscar nomination almost a decade earlier for another really short Maggie Simpson movie and for his work here, he was nominated for an Emmy. He lost on both occasions, but well, it's still two pretty big successes. I remember not being too fascinated by the Oscar-nominated film back then and sadly I must say the same about this one here. Maybe it is even inferior. The title is also not true as Maggie is awake all the time by the way. Anyway, Marge takes Maggie to a daycare center and the two (or rather Marge only) walk a bit around the institution and we see some solid gags there like famous Star Wars characters as babies. It was also nice to see how the food was prepared there. Of course, light sabers played a role. The light saber references were fine. I also liked how Maggie's pacifier turned into a magical weapon a little later. There's definitely more than rubber to the part she sucks on. No huge surprise that the pacifier also plays a role here as it is Maggie's go-to item, even if it was gone for the first half of all the scenes when she was without her mother. There she really looked a lot like Lisa. Almost identical. Just smaller.

These were the parts when she makes a friend who helps her get the pacifier back, but the dark force appears quickly in the form of an infant with a black-and-red face that of course also resembles a vital Star Wars character. I will not go too much into detail there as I am not a huge expert when it comes to this gigantic franchise. Maybe it shows that you watch other stuff instead if the first thing that comes to mind when you see Maggie and her robot friend there is Wall-E. Enough said. The closing credits sequence with some Simpsons characters brought into the Star Wars universe was better again. I liked what the did there. At the very end, Bart (never been a fan) also gets a quick inclusion, so if you count Maggie's looks as a reference to Lisa, then the only one really missing here is Homer. Perhaps not a bad thing they did not rush him in too. The character is too much fun for that and maybe also would have taken some attention away from Maggie. But he probably also could not have saved this little movie to an extent where I would have considered a positive recommendation. Maybe worth it for people who love both franchises or are just completionists for one of them. Everybody else can skip and they won't be missing much. Good thing it was this short.

The force never awakes for you Maggie
sebasvictoria-6205821 October 2022
Maggie Simpson is the protagonist of a short that doesn't contribute nothing really interesting considering the utilization of Star Wars universe and how rich it is to propose something that could be well written or performed in terms of ideas. However, the problem of this short is that feels really compressed, mixing a lot of references and concepts that don't go anywhere. The execution is poor and doesn't have any sense despite all the trials to be funny and striking for the public. Equally, considering how exploited and worn the Simpsons have been around the years, it is normal to feel that there isn't nothing really interesting and new to see here. But, Maggie Simpson is a character inside the Simpsons universe that has not been correctly explored, considering all the situation she can be put and that she has performed in the TV series.

Maggie Simpson in "The Force Awakens from Its Nap"
studioAT4 October 2023
This was a rather pointless affair if truth be told.

Why it took so many writers to produce it I'll never know, because while yes, there are some nice visual gags, it's all rather pointless.

I don't mind these shorts if they are done well, but having Maggie as the focus of another one feels like extending a joke that didn't overly/just about worked previously and trying to make the 'magic' happen again.

More Simpsons content is always welcome, but it has to be done right, and I'm not sure this one really was when looked at on reflection.

I'm sure 'Star Wars' fans will look at it fondly. It has more gags than the sequel trilogy, that's for sure.
