Alexander Monelli came up with the idea for this movie in American History class in 10th grade. His teacher mentioned how before embalming, people would have bells put next to their graves to prevent them from being accidentally buried alive. He wrote it down on a piece of paper and eventually made it seven years later.
The scene where Jacob first encounters Abraham was mostly made up on the day it was shot. It took a few hours to film and was the coldest day of the shoot. Ultimately, more than half of the scene was cut out because the director felt it added too much to the story.
