BARBARA'S REALLY BAD DAY.
tcchelsey18 April 2024
This funny story was written by Bob Touchstone, a relatively new writer at the time, who may have gotten a few ideas from Beverly Garland.

Barbara wants to do everything right... but there's a limit. Steve is working with the top brass and Barbara suggests he bring 'em all over for dinner.

A working dinner isn't a bad idea -- except when Murphy's Law pays a visit? Watch how all this unfolds, and with some spot on direction from Fred De Cordova.

I agree with the last reviewer, there's a gag silent movie dream featuring Uncle Charley as a goofy maid! See to believe, also showing off William Demarest's comedy skills.

At the time this episode was filmed, Beverly Garland and her real-life husband had purchased a hotel and restaurant in North Hollywood. The "dinner" disaster idea may have been suggested to writer Bob Touchstone from Beverly herself. It all makes sense, especially if you know the restaurant business.

The coveted pssword is "Cherry Nut Parfait." A terrific family episode with everyone on board.

Look for veteran actor John Gallaudet as Bob Anderson, who appeared many times on the show in various roles.

SEASON 10 EPISODE 14 remastered color. January 1970.

Barbara Shares Her Cherry Nut Parfait
wes-connors28 August 2015
When Steve (Fred MacMurray) gets ready to go out with some important business executives, Barbara (Beverly Garland) suggests he invite his work friends over for dinner. Still a newlywed, Barbara hasn't encountered many of Steve's work-related friends, yet. She thinks her "cherry nut parfait" will be a tasty treat. Barbara tries to arrange a perfect dinner party, but things do not go according to plan. The entire cast appears in this episode, but it's mainly Ms. Garland's show. The plot is a familiar one in situation comedies. As usual, the best versions were delivered by Lucille Ball and her show's writers. An interesting bit has Barbara and Steve in a "silent movie" dream, with Uncle Charley (William Demarest) as a fussy maid. And, Garland shows a lot of skin for a family show, when bending over in her slip.
