The name was chosen as an inside joke about Houdini, being the legendary escape artist, and the character of Harry Weiss being forever trapped within his diminutive cubicle. Some members of the production are also big fans of the ABC's television show Alias, so the character is also a nod to Greg Grunberg's character in that show, Eric Weiss.
