In the film, Ted reads Danielle Steel novels. In real life, actor Justin Clark is the grandson of Mary Higgins Clark and he suggested that Ted instead read Mary Higgins Clark novels. Ultimately, the joke remained as Danielle Steel.
When actress Gabrielle Filloux sent her audition tape for the role of Tracy, director Jonathan Smith was astounded to discover that she had not read with a scene partner but instead had acted opposite recordings of herself playing the other three roles in the scene, and she nailed not only the role of Tracy but the other roles, too. Predicting that she would be a star one day, Jonathan quickly cast her and eventually, based on her ability to play multiple roles, asked if she'd like to develop a comedy about twins where she would play multiple roles.
Aside from Bradley, each guy friend was filmed in a half day, sometimes in just a few hours.
The film was shot almost entirely in New York City, plus a little in Hackensack and Ridgewood, New Jersey and Greenwich and Stamford, Connecticut.
Director Jonathan Smith filmed the interview scenes on an iPad so that the image quality would differ from the rest of the film.
