Young Catherine is definitely a thing of the past, and Samantha Morton is the star of the show unquestionably now. She is brilliant in the role. In "The First Regency", she is given the role of Regent whilst Henri is off fighting in defence of France, which allows her to flex her muscle as far as power and influence in the palace goes, even as queens from other countries appear to be conspiring to keep her from permanently ascending the French throne because she is a commoner. 'The Serpent Queen' continues to be beautiful television. It is immediately apparent that Starz has not skimped on the budget. Everything looks good, from the sweeping establishing shots to the sets and costumes. It has a cinematic feel.
